About This Listing
The Russian River Hideaway is one of the most adorable AND least expensive vacation rentals in the Russian River. Located in Sonoma county, it's the perfect place to either cozy up indoors or go out and explore nature, wineries or hip destinations like Guerneville.
The Hideaway is a gorgeous property that comfortably sleeps four. Nestled in the redwoods, the Hideaway consists of the main house, a charming cabin, breathtaking decks, an outdoor grill, a hot tub and more. We offer a fully equipped kitchen, TV/DVD, High speed internet, an iPod player, luxury linens, a wood-burning fireplace, and a canoe for our guests. The house is located off River Road in Summerhome Park, a unique community with a private beach on the river (a 5 minute walk from the Hideaway), hiking trails out the back door, a basketball court, and more than 100 years of local history and tradition. Bring the family for a weekend of fun or surprise your loved one with a romantic escape!
NOTE: During the summer months June-August we require a week minimum (and it's worth it. promise!)
What a wonderful place to get away. What really worked for us was it's location in nature. Being surrounded by redwoods, the river and wine country was sensational. The main house and cabin had lots of special touches that made it feel like home. The kitchen was stocked with essentials and there were lots of towels and extra supplies. We were in the hot tub every day. Also, Sharon was very responsive and easy to work with for booking our stay.
What would have made it even better, some exterior maintenance and preparation for their guests. There was a trashcan outside that had spilled, littering the entry walkway. The patios and outdoor social areas were covered in cobwebs, pine needles and overgrowth. Previous guests had left some food on the hot tub, so we had to clean that up, along with the trail of ants that were enjoying their meal. We would have liked to open the sliding door from the master bedroom but there were so many webs and spiders outside it that it was undesirable. Mostly it would have been nice if someone had tidied up the exterior before we arrived. We spent the first half day of our getaway cleaning things up outside. Sharon isn't nearby, and it doesn't seem like she has anyone local to help with this.
Also, while the interior was tidy, the smell of mildew was a bit overwhelming. This was mentioned in other reviews, so it wasn't unexpected and we brought incense to cover it.
All in all, we really enjoyed our time at the Hideway. However, if you book here, do plan to spend a few hours cleaning up the exterior when you arrive.
Sharon was incredibly responsive, flexible, and accommodating leading up to and during our stay- and she kindly granted us a late check-out on our last day.
On the other hand, we felt that many of her photos that enticed us to book the house were misleading and failed to present a full picture of the true rustic nature of the place, as well as the significant construction happening on all sides daily.
This being said, my friends and I had a great weekend and definitely made the best of our Russian River experience! Overall, I'd recommend this place, although not at nearly the price at which it has been marketed..
The Russian River Hideaway is awesome! Five friends and I were looking for a relaxing escape from the city, and this was the perfect spot. The house feels very private and surrounded by redwoods. There were plenty of games, books, music, and movies to choose from as well as a fully stocked kitchen. It's a short, beautiful walk to the river, and a great spot to visit any time of the year. We highly recommend soaking in the hot tub in the rain (it's sheltered under a roof) or going for a hike!
Sharon and Nora were both very responsive and fantastic hosts. I'll definitely be back, and highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway or a cozy place to return to after a day on the river.

About the Host, Sharon
I value the simple things in life. Connecting with people, eye contact with strangers, laughter with friends & family... welcoming what life has in store for me. I live in the city and often get away to the Russian River. I share both homes with amazing people like yourselves! I hope you enjoy both the Russian River and the city as much as I do!
