The Space

The Russian River Hideaway is one of the most adorable AND least expensive vacation rentals in the Russian River. Located in Sonoma county, it's the perfect place to either cozy up indoors or go out and explore nature, wineries or hip destinations like Guerneville.

The Hideaway is a gorgeous property that comfortably sleeps four. Nestled in the redwoods, the Hideaway consists of the main house, a charming cabin, breathtaking decks, an outdoor grill, a hot tub and more. We offer a fully equipped kitchen, TV/DVD, High speed internet, an iPod player, luxury linens, a wood-burning fireplace, and a canoe for our guests. The house is located off River Road in Summerhome Park, a unique community with a private beach on the river (a 5 minute walk from the Hideaway), hiking trails out the back door, a basketball court, and more than 100 years of local history and tradition. Bring the family for a weekend of fun or surprise your loved one with a romantic escape!

  • This place is incredible. We were itching to get out of the city to celebrate our four year anniversary, and this gave us just the escape we needed. Sharon and Nora's hideaway is tucked away in the forests of, well, Forestville -- there are beautiful hiking trails all around (one amazing one is right behind their back yard), but you are also not too far from canoeing or relaxing on the beaches of the Russian River, heading to Sonoma for some wine tasting, or checking out Guerneville and Sebastopol. The house is great - we barbecued, relaxed in the hot tub, listened to music (btw the hosts have impeccable taste in music -- great CD collection), and just relaxed and looked at the stars. It was just the two of us, but the cabin out back has a large queen bed and bathroom that would perfectly accommodate more guests. Next time we'll come with a friend or two! I would recommend this hideaway to anyone looking to escape the city for a few days (or even longer!)

  • The house is awesome. It's tucked away along the Russian River. We went up for the weekend with our dogs to check out some of the breweries in the area. We relaxed on the deck when we arrived, BBQ'd a couple steaks and then took a dip in the hot tub... exactly what we were looking for. The river is a short walk down the road. I'd def like to return in the summer and take advantage of the beach area. Although we booked it last min, Sharon replied right away and confirmed our reservation. Would def recommend this place.

  • My husband and I rented the Hideaway with another couple for a weekend of wine tasting, and it was perfect. The cabin and main house were clean and well-maintained, and Sharon's guest handbook provided all of the information we could possibly need about the place.

We love to cook at home, and the kitchen was stocked with all of the tools we needed to make a couple of really great meals with the groceries we brought. The evenings are chilly this time of year, and charcoal grill, hot tub, and wood-burning stove made it a cozy place to relax after a busy day of winery hopping.

The fact that the Hideaway is pet-friendly made our weekend plans really simple - we had a lab and two lhasa apsos between the four of us and there was plenty space for all.

We had a couple of small concerns upon checkout, and Sharon was friendly and responded quickly to my text messages.

Great space, wonderful host. I'd guess that summers are pretty buggy, but I'd go back in a heartbeat during cool weather.

  • This was a great hideaway and worked well for my and my three kids. The directions were very helpful and we had no problem. It's got more of a cabin feel than a hotel feel. My girls stayed in the smaller house together. We enjoyed the hottub. Only issue we found was the heat in the smaller house needs a few hours to turn on before it gets warm.

  • Not bad

  • Sharon's place is in a great location near the heart of the Russian River Valley. Very easy to get to from San Francisco, and once you arrive the cabin is quite private and well-equipped. The heat was not working which made it quite cold in the morning, but the fireplace did a good job of keeping the living room warm (just make sure you bring enough wood!). All in all it was a nice weekend.

  • Had an excellent time at the Hideaway. The units were much larger than expected and the hot tub was fantastic.

  • Great home, and a nice hideaway!

  • The Pros:
    1) Sharon is a kind, helpful, flexible, very communicative host.
    2) The main house bed is very comfortable.
    3) The main house heater works really well.

    The Cons:
    1) The house is extremely difficult to find if arriving after dark.
    2) The cottage has a musty, mildew smell that is overwhelming.
    3) The cottage only has a tiny space heater that WILL NOT PROVIDE ENOUGH HEAT to sleep if you arrive later in the day.
    4) The couch seat fabric was ripped and the pull-out bed had food debris in the mattress.
    5) The place is rustic - we heard a rat/possum/raccoon scratching somewhere in the middle of the night.

Overall I was disappointed with the rental. The photos make it seem so much more charming than what we experienced. We were two couples who expected to use both cabins, but one couple ended up on an air mattress in the floor of the main house because of the mildew smell and the utter lack of heat in the upper unit. Sharon was exceedingly nice and her directions to the rental were excellent, but we did not enjoy our stay as we thought we would.

  • We were happy with both the accommodations and Sharon as a host. The location is great for wine tasting and hiking and the price was fair for the weekend. Sharon was very responsive to a couple of questions we had before renting the place. We enjoyed the use of her canoe and the kitchen was well stocked with spices and olive oil which was helpful for making dinner. Sharon also made a cute binder of things to do in the area.

The cottage house is more rustic than the main house. If you are sharing with another couple you might want to be clear on this before getting there. :)

About
I value the simple things in life. Connecting with people, eye contact with strangers, laughter with friends & family... welcoming with what life has in store for me. Living in the city can get me disconnected from the simplicity that I crave. Hence, the Russian River Hideaway -- I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
