Amazing and so welcoming, Martina and John had tea and homemade brown bread on the table when we arrived. They recommended we go for a walk in the forest which was great and relaxing. We explored their home grounds also and got to meet the pet cow.... awesome!!! as I've never been as close to one before. The restored stable was beautifully designed. The bed was so so comfy and breakie was just right up my street. Thank you both for the hospitality and hopefully our paths will cross again in the future
Had such a pleasant experience in Athenrey. The cottage is beautiful with fabulous imported Italian furniture. Martina and John were both so helpful starting us off with a hearty breakfast and giving us lots of good tips of places to go. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
Martina and John were so welcoming and warm. We were greeted with an offer for coffee and tea, which we accepted, but they also fed us delicious smoked salmon, cheese and brown bread. The breakfasts were generous and delicious and the room was gorgeous. Martina and John chatted to us and made us feel at home and gave us tips about the area and even lent me some wellie boots! It was wonderful!
Martina and John have been the best hosts you could wish. They are extremely welcoming and very willing to make you feel at home. We really enjoyed our short stay in the cottage, which is lovely and cosy. The interior design is wonderful. I highly recommend it !
The location is really nice, it is worth spending more time, I will definitely come back there!
Thank you so much for this stay and for the indications you gave us, we had a rich day in Connemara !
My holiday was perfect! In fact I have been home a few days and long to return. The restored cottage is beautiful, as part of a large and remarkable working farm and the hospitality was outstanding - more welcoming than I could have imagined. The location is wonderful and convenient for short trips into the town of Loughrea for shopping, postage, groceries, as well as a great base for exploring Galway and the Wild Atlantic Way (north to Connemara and south to the Cliffs of Moher). The hosts are eager to share their knowledge of the area and make suggestions for trips and tours, etc. They began each day gifting me with a hearty Irish breakfast which I had not expected, though delicious, and sent me on my day. I HIGHLY recommend a stay here and am looking forward to when I can return to my new friends in Ireland.
We had a lovely and amazing stay. Best hosts and cottage is better than the pictures. Hosts went above and beyond (provided directions, recommendations, breakfast). I would highly recommend and would return.
We had an amazing stay with Martina & John. They are truly the perfect hosts. We were able to borrow mountain bikes to go for a quick tour around the area, Martina organised and booked a great restaurant nearby and topped it off with an amazing breakfast to send us on our way. Our only regret is that we only booked one night stay! Highly recommend.
John and Martina are your hosts.John is a farmer/stonemason who works on various projects including all restored buildings on farm.Martina works on Interiors projects and travels to find interesting pieces. We are surrounded by the timeless limestone walls of Galway and enjoy sharing the country and experience. Both love outdoor life.Runing, cycling, swimming, horseriding and hiking in the Burren.
Love meeting people and chatting over cups of tea.
