About this listing
A huge house only 10 minutes walk from the city centre but no traffic noise . The very large room has a comfortable double bed and antique furnishings. From your room spectacular views over the river while situated in a quiet cul-de-sac. Perfect!
Huge Victorian home, 10 minutes walk from the city centre. Great ambience full of antique furniture and art in one of the most special old parts of Cork not a boring housing estate !! I am flexible about check in if possible. Safe parking space for car and storage for bicycles in the garage. I have put a map of where to find the house with the photos on my listing as we are tucked away in a quiet cul-de-sac
The sitting room, kitchen and garden. These areas are used by our own family and you are welcome to enjoy these areas with us. Kitchen by advance request
Interaction with Guests
We will interact with our guests as much as they would like. Yes, we will be at the house during visits by guests. l also like to chat with guests and help discuss sightseeing, restaurants and good pubs to visit!! We also make a delicious breakfast with quality ingredients, great fruit , coffee, tea, juice , bread and free range eggs direct from the farmer in Schull West Cork.
Our neighbourhood has a village feel although only minutes from the city centre. In the area there are some great pubs such as the landmark Henchys Pub. Also there is a wine bar, a delicatessen, a chemist, post office, a butcher and a Chinese restaurant. Most of the houses in our area are Victorian or Edwardian and accordingly are listed as an Area of Special Conservation.
Only 5 minutes from our house, there is a bus stop which takes you into the city centre if you do not want to walk the short distance! There is also a train station 10 minutes away which takes you to areas such a Cobh and Midleton, and has connections nationwide. One can get from the airport to our home by bus to the city centre or a taxi which would cost between 15 and 20 euro. Off street parking is also available at our home.

Fiona was a lovely host. Her house is incredible and she took the time to give us great recommendations. Her kids were so polite and helpful as well. It's a quick walk to the city centre as well.
La maison est dans un quartier résidentiel sur les hauteurs de Cork. Après le pub du soir remonter pour se coucher est une bonne balade digestive!!
Salle de bains et wc à partager. Petit déjeuner continental.
The house is huge and the room very spacious indeed! The view would have been wonderful, I am certain, had it not be raining all the time which is of course not Fiona's fault!
Make sure you look at Fiona's map (in her profile) when you first arrive, she is indeed a bit difficult to find…
We greatly enjoyed the breakfast and the homemade jams.
From the very start Fiona made us very welcome. The room, with views over Cork is on the third floor, it is very spacious and most importantly has a comfortable bed! but there are no on suit facilities.
Fiona is a warm and friendly hostess with wealth of local knowledge and showed us on a map the many restaurants in the city centre, which is approximately a 10~15 minute walk downhill, coming back might take a little longer.
Oliver Plunkett Street with its restaurants and lively bars along with the English market is worth a visit. For those wishing to have something closer there are two restaurants opposite the Everyman Theater in Mac Curtain street.
Shewsbury Villas is not the easiest to find but entering the longitude & latitude (phone number hidden)N, (phone number hidden)W into ether Google Map or your SatNav should bring you there.
We had a lovely time in your gorgeous house. I have size envy now I'm home in my Yorkshire hutch!
You were a great host, and made our stay in Cork special. Thanks to your son for giving us the delicious breakfast and home-made jams.( I can recommend the fig jam)
Cork is a lovely city and we can recommend a visit to Kinsale and Blarney Castle.
Fiona was a lovely hostess and we were delighted to meet her and her daughter. I was disappointed we had to leave so soon. Her home is beautiful and comfortable. It was also very convenient to downtown. Only note: Make sure to take a left into the villas from the main road.
Fiona's third-floor bedroom is spacious and has wonderfully large windows. We had a bit of difficulty locating the home, but that may have been more due to our GPS than anything else. Breakfast jams were delicious. Location is perfect. Overall a great place to stay if visiting Cork. Highly recommended.
