In the heart of old Beijing, fall in love with the sights and sounds, from just outside your door! Stay in a newly renovated quiet hutong located between the Lama Temple and Confucius Temple. The house is next to shops, cafes and 2 subway lines!
Welcome to our humble house! We live in a local neighborhood in the traditional part of Beijing, Lama Temple (inside the second ring road) near one of the most famous food streets in Beijing! We are near the center point of Ghost Street which, in our opinion, is the best location to begin your night of food exploration! (search key word: ghost street beijing)
LOCATION: Lama Temple is one subway stop away from the final destination on the Airport Express train (fee: 25rmb) or an easy cab ride form the airport (fee: 70rmb). It takes 4-6 minutes to walk to our front door from the exit of the subway.
Our house is 150 meters down a small road directly across from the Lama Temple. You turn down our traditional alleyway just as you reach the corner of the Confucius Temple. This is one of the few remaining traditional neighborhoods in Beijing. We are very near to many western and Chinese cafes in the hutongs, and of course very close to Ghost street!
We have a small guest room with a single bed plus a double room with King bed in addition to our own room. The rooms and apartment have air/con and heating.
The house is spacious and tidy. We don't have any pets. There are two bathrooms, one in our room and one to be shared by guests.
Unfortunately because Noel is allergic to smoke, we can't allow any smoking in the house or rooms, even with the windows open. But you can step outside into the alleyway if needed.
Our neighbors are quiet. We share a small enclosed alleyway, that is secured with a lockable gate, with two neighbors, one Chinese couple and a European guy. This is a very quiet neighborhood due to the situation of the houses, it totally blocks out all the street traffic noise!
This is a very unique location in Beijing. It is East meets West/Old meets New. With hutongs front and center and a modern subway system to take you to the most famous high rises in the city just a few stops away!
Welcome to our local neighborhood, where the real working people of Beijing live.
We are a short cab ride, long walk, or easy subway ride away from Nanluoguxiang, Bell and Drum Tower, Houhai lake, Tiananmen, Forbidden City, etc.
There is a washing machine in the house plus fully stocked kitchen with oven. There is a supermarket with western products near by; any guest is welcome to cook in if you choose. We provide a very simple breakfast, which is unlimited tea, a selection of dry cereals.
Taxi from Beijing airport: RMB - 80
Airport train: RMB - 25
Bus: RMB - 1
Subway: RMB - 2+
Stay one night or several! Welcome to Beijing!!!

All guests have full access to the living room, Kitchen and Dining room. We ask that each guest respect the privacy of others in regard to bedrooms.
Interaction with Guests
We run a very open house, often having our friends stop by even bringing other friends with them. This cozy room has a separate entrance to the main house, so if guests wish for privacy and quiet, they can go directly to the room and bypass the living area with other people. However, if they want to join the fun in the living room, be it board games, tea or book reading, they are always welcome! This will allow you to meet many locals, expat or Chinese when you stay here.
If we are out of town, then we will have a friend or neighbor stop by the house every so often to make sure things are in order. But other than that guests should not be too disturbed even in the living spaces.
The thing we love most about our neighborhood is the character! There is often some film crew capturing the sights and sounds of this traditional oasis in the center of modern Beijing. We love the cafes; there are four restaurants that have been featured for their excellent food and service just down the road! We used to come to this part of town often to hang out, and now have finally decided to live here!!!
Other Things to Note
We offer the option to pay in RMB if you want to extend your stay or you only have RMB cash, so we can make a bill on the day of your arrival and settle in RMB.
We provide breakfast, and you are welcome to buy foods for lunch and dinner and put them in our cabinets and fridge.
Noel is allergic to smoke, so absolutely no smoking allowed at anytime.
We appreciate cleanliness, so it's good if you wash your dishes and put your trash away in the trash cans around the house when you are done.
We ask that all guests wear cloths in public spaces. Wearing only undergarments or a towel does not count as clothes. Just keep in mind this is a mixed gender household so we ask that mutual respect be displayed through modesty.
We welcome guests into our house, and you are welcome to bring friends over to the house too. Please just tell us beforehand if you plan to have friends over so we can make plans not to overlap! We prefer friends of our guests not to stay overnight without our consent. If there is a special situation we can discuss it.
Sorry if these rules seem like a lot. When people share living spaces it is important to have open, honest communication, and that's what we hope to have with our guests to. So if you have any questions or concerns, just let us know!
Jonathan and Noel were excellent hosts, very welcoming and invited me regularly to eat with them and their friends. The room was clean and comfortable and in an interesting part of time. I recommend a stay here!
Noel and Jonathan were very friendly and caring hosts. They ensured I felt right at home even if from a distance as they had to travel away for the weekend that I was staying with them. Location is perfect if you fancy doing the temples and overall centrally located to various shops and restaurants. Thumbs Up for the StepBackN Time pad!
Perfect location at the heart of Beijing. I was able to get around easily and that saved me a lot of time. It was a really pleasant experience staying at Noel and Jonathan's. They were really hospitable and informative. It was also really interesting talking to them; I had a good talk with Noel for almost three hours. They are generous about their house; I was free to use anything in the house. The room across the walkway can be a little cold during winter time so I think adding a heater in the room might help. The cold was tolerable tho and the room was really comfy and quiet. An awesome airbnb experience!! STRONGLY RECOMMENDED!
Great overall option for the budget oriented traveler. Close to everything..great neighborhood, and Jonathan/Noel are friendly and helpful. Highly recommended for a short stay in Beijing.
I had a nice stay at Noel and Jonathan's place. The location is very good and convenient. Both Noel and Jonathan are very friendly and relaxing hosts. We had some interesting conversations and that made the stay more fun and interesting too.
Noel and Jonathan have been perfect hosts. I was on a business trip and therefore did not spend much time at their lovely place. But I was able to talk with Noel and it felt like speaking to an old friend right away. The room is exactly as advertised and the locaton is second to none, so central to everything yet hidden in a quiet hutong away from all the hussle and bussle. I would definitely go back to their place next time I am in Beijing.

American couple from California. We love adventures and traveling, having covered over 30 countries in the past three years on four different continents!
We first moved to Beijing in 2009 and seem to always return. We just signed a new house lease here and want to share with the AirBnB community the benefit of hospitality, as we have received it from others on our many travels.
We love food! We try to learn how to make local dishes from all the places we visit. Recently we got into cooking organic and are learning how to grow keifer, sprout wheat for bread and all kinds of fun stuff! We are coffee fanatics and love good wine.
We believe that the thing which makes a place most memorable are the people you share it with. I hope you will send us a note and come spend part of your trip with us! Or at least grab a coffee together!
