Silke was a fantastic host! The house itself is gorgeous and has a historic feel. The room was beautiful and equipped with its own air conditioner for hot days. It was very clean and well cared for - Silke even made sure there was ice cold water, magazines, and candy waiting! The neighborhood is quiet and safe. It's takes about 25 minutes to walk to the train, but there are sidewalks and street lamps the entire way. We walked back from the train station at around midnight and felt very safe. The train goes into Penn Station, right in downtown Manhattan, and is extremely convenient. Silke was also accommodating in allowing us to park at her house and avoid downtown driving. Overall, this was a fantastic experience - certainly better than a hotel!
Silke and her family were incredibly nice. They live in a beautiful home (incredibly decorated - so impressed!). Her husband welcomed us, showed us our rooms and Silke gave us tips about local coffee shops/bakeries, etc. (FYI Montclair Bakery is great coffee/donut/breakfast place - delish!). Our family of four (two adults and two very small children) stayed in the upstairs two bedrooms for one night. Silke has a beautiful home with gorgeous hardwood floors. The bedrooms and bathrooms were cheerfully decorated and very clean. Our beds were comfortable. The house is near a park so the kids loved the playground and surrounding neighborhood. Not quite walking distance to shops but they are VERY close (definitely check out the local food places). The only downside to our stay is that we have two very small children who can sometimes be very loud (sorry!). My preference would be Silke's private apartment in the basement only because the kids are louder and it offers the private entrance (for the times when you have a child awake at 5am and need to get out of the house without waking others!). However, it wasn't available at the time of our booking (maybe next time!). Overall we had a wonderful stay and very much appreciated having clean, private lodgings. I highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a lovely home to stay in with warm and welcoming hosts.
This place was fantastic. We had our own room in the attic and our own bathroom (complete with a claw flooded bath)
Silke made us feel very welcome. And everything was very clean.
However it was a bit further from Manhatten than we thought. A 20minute walk to the train station then a 35 minute train ride to Manhatten.
I was only in Montclair for the night, but I had a wonderful experience staying at Silke's home. She was welcoming and friendly and the room was clean, well decorated and relaxing. I appreciated Silke's attention to detail and her thoughtfulness. It was one of the best Airbnb experiences I have had. If I ever return to the area I would love to stay at the same place.
A wonderful place to stay! Silke is a great host, an amazing baker, and has so much knowledge about the area. The room was immaculate, the bed was comfy, and the bathrooms were very nice. The house was perfectly located to walk to local restaurants and transportation. I'm sure I'll be back next time I'm in town.

About the Host, Silke
Me and my family live in Montclair for over 10 years, after living in Berlin and New York city this is the perfect place for us and I am sure you will enjoy the town and our house as well! I love to cook, bake and entertain and also like to decorate our house. So I am constantly moving things around.
