Gunung Agung volcano (you will need to stay overnight and ask for guides to bring you up the volcano early morning). We advise you to stay in Sideman and get the guides to bring you from Pasar Temple, rather than from Besakit temple (it's a bit shorter). This hick is a hard one. My initial contact with Rebeca Fuchs was satisfactory, the information received on the property and location was satisfactory and adequate. Subsequent mails regarding arranging an airport pick up service went unheeded until late in the day for some reason.
The description of the 'beach villa led me to believe it was near to or on the beach. It was disappointing to find that the beach was perhaps a kilometer away, through a narrow and winding series of narrow alleys.
Sanitation in the villa is a very serious issue, initially the water supply, in the kitchen and bathroom was nothing short of disgusting, the smell and appearance of the water was the same as that which flowed in the open sewers that surround the villa in the area.
The narrow lanes that lead to the shopping, bars and dining areas are not well lit, A torch is useful if you wish to venture out at night.
The villa is quaint but it is extremely tired, it could do with a make over, and some modernisation, especially the plumbing and kitchen area.
The domestic who looks after the property and visits daily is a very sweet lady, she did as much as she could to make our stay comfortable. This was never going to happen however, because of the lack of a hygienic water supply, we bathed in the pool, as well as we could, enduring the chlorinated water.
I am not usually given to complaint, I have worked in remote areas in Russia Asia and Africa, I have never experienced such appalling sanitation, this villa should carry a public health warning.
The house is sweet - good size with lovely garden and ample sized pool. As usual at this time of the year biggest issues in Bali were the humidity, mosquitos and getting cabs. Taxis struggled finding the house. The place is well furnished - feels like a family holiday home, albeit pretty well loved - all the outdoor furniture etc has seen a lot of sun and rain. The drains and water in both the bathroom and kitchen really smelt - not sure whether something can be done to fix this, would make a big difference. Nyoman the housekeeper was lovely. Thank you for having us.
The green villa!
Here is an honest review of this great villa pros and cons.
This villa really does offer some greatness.
Its location is perfect. Whether on foot or by scooter, the beach is close, the main street of Seminyak is close, and yet far enough away to be relatively quiet.
The set up of the villa itself is awesome, and easily the best of the 3 villas we stayed at while in Bali. It has a functional kitchen with all that is needed, just use the grill as a toaster, inclusive of a microwave if you have a baby that needs their bottle heated in the night.
The outside sun spot is situated perfectly amidst the green garden. You lose the sun off that spot about 4pm (mid august) so you have most of the day to lounge in, if you so desire.
It is spacious and homely and the rustic feel goes along way to making you feel more relaxed, then shiny white walls and cliche furniture. Truly the day bed is a dream and far bigger than the photos reveal.
This villa does offer some challenges. Make no mistake, that when you live in the tropics, and build in the tropics, you move into the home of what lives in the tropics.
Unfortunately due to being such a lovely green garden around the villa, there seems to be a large amount of mosquitos. We just got into the rhythm of giving our rooms a good spray an hour before bedtime and making sure the net was up around our beds. We also had our portacot up for our baby, against the bed and could fit the net around this. They seemed to like the cold, so aircon doesn't really help. But as said above, its expected to have some level of Mossy activity, and this by no means ruined the villa for us.
There is a water problem in Bali, this is due to the absolutely huge amount of villas, pools, new buildings and amount of people that have happened so fast there. The usual rule of thumb, don't drink the tap water etc etc The water does smell dirty, and maybe this could be looked into, by slowly adding a small amount of chlorine into the water weekly to kill any bacteria. This is a common problem, but one that can be fixed, there is just no fast solution.
Finally Nyoman was and is a lovely person, maid, helper, and host. She lives close by, and is happy to lend a hand if needed. An example, you run out of water, she will get it even if its on a Sunday. Just txt!
All in all we really enjoyed our stay at this wonderful villa, and would recommend to anyone who has read this far.
Tess, Iraia, and Hirini.
We thought the villa was perfect for a long stay.
Great location, quite street (especially for Seminyak), 5 mins to EVERYTHING.
Nyoman, the cleaner, was ever so kind and helpful, and our kids loved her. We will be staying here time and time again when we come to Bali. .
We were not satisfied with the house and we were very disappointed. It is not what we expected based on the description on airbnb!
First: We travel a lot in asia and have been several times in Bali before, so we know how things are in Bali and what tropics means.
Here some points:
– Main problem is the water out of shower and tap. It stinks like cloaca and smells like dead animals. Impossible to take a shower! It feels disgusting to wash hands or face. We all got ill (fever/diarrhea), we suppose there are bacteria in the water installations. Problem was not solved during our stay.
– Abnormal amount of animals all over the place (inside and outside), cannot stay outside, ants coming out of the walls, birdshit everywhere, animals eating our stuff out of the bin, abnormal many mosquitos, also in the house (open roof). We even cannot use the open bathroom. Impossible to sit in the garden.
– The house is overall not in a good condition in comparision to the price and photos on airbnb. For example the pool light was broken, the small table on the terrace is broken, the sunbeds are dirty, and everything feels used and shabby. We have been in cheaper houses in bali and they were in a much better condition.
– It was hard to get in contact with the owner (lives not in Bali) and there is no responsible person on site, the house-manager can not fall any decisions by himself.
Here some positive aspects:
– The cleaning woman (Nyoman) did her job well, and was really friendly and helpful.
– Pool was big and nice
– After several complaints and many days, we got a part of the money back and fumigation was done in the garden.
Even though we didn`t meet Rebeca in person, she was very supportive via email and the housekeeper Nyoman is a very kind and helpful person.
The villa was wonderful and fulfilled all our expectations. If it only wouldn't be such a long trip to Bali, we would come back often!
An absolutely wonderful villa, the photos do not do it justice. The staff are lovely and go out of their way to accommodate you.
I couldn't recommend it more!
