This top floor apartment (5th floor, accessible via lift or stairs) with very high ceilings and 1920s heritage art deco features is a space that is full of light all day long with an incredible vista day or night.
Don't stay here if you don't love character with an oldy worldy Parisian loft feel as this studio is filled to the brim with character and charm for those who love original details.
Brilliant for a single or couple, sleeping maximum two people, on the chiropractic, comfortable queen bed.
The kitchen is separate to the main living space, in a small galley way, with a full sized fridge, gas stove and oven (no microwave). No need to sleep in the kitchen in this studio!
The kitchen and bathroom both have stunning original tiles with a huge beautiful deep bath, so if you're a bath person, you will be in heaven, enjoying the lovely cross breeze (no AC but none needed!) after a day of walking around the sites of Sydney.
Darlinghurst is a destination for Sydney's best restaurants and bars, so you will hear the occasional passerby however this building is on a cul-de-sac, so is one of the quieter streets in the area, as there is no road traffic sound below. People are often surprised at how quiet such an inner city area can be, perhaps as we are on the top floor.
Studio has free internet wifi and coin laundry facilities on the top floor. The roof top also has a fantastic view of the Harbour Bridge and Domain Park. Why pay hotel rates when you can have your own private home, equipped with everything you need for 2 people?
Darlinghurst has colourful characters and is constantly evolving. Where better to stay than right in the heart of it all with the best restaurants that Sydney has to offer - not to mention the original Messina Icecream Shop!
Please do not ask to view the property prior to booking. It is impossible as Airbnb does not allow us to exchange contact details until bookings are confirmed.
Guests have free unlimited wifi, access to a small original Art Deco wardrobe, under bed storage perfect for suitcases, the three ottomans also have storage, use of bathroom and 80% of the kitchen. We reserve one kitchen cupboard and one trunk, these are the only areas that are locked.
Interaction with Guests
I am a super speedy responder and here to answer and assist with any questions at all.
We like to know when guests have settled in, so that we know guests have their keys and all is as expected. We also keep this in our rental agreement as we need to know if anything is not working or broken upon arrival so we can fix and replace items. Sometimes it is just a matter of usage instructions and rather than guests tell us at the end of their stay that items weren't working we would prefer to know so that we can send instructions if there is any issue.
This leafy inner city suburb offers stunning residential streetscape. A pocket of pulsating options, the streets come alive at night in this most convenient of locations in Sydney.
Darlinghurst is a very safe inner city suburb. The closest train station, Kings Cross, is sometimes sketchy, but like all blue light areas, there is a high police patrol, so we feel very safe there. Darlinghurst is the next suburb and has a cafe and restaurant vibe, so it's very different to Kings Cross. Darlinghurst has all the best attractions and is walking distance to CBD, the harbour and Oxford Street shopping.
There are many buses and trains all within a close walking distance from our studio. Our street has a 99% walking score! You can walk anywhere to Sydney's biggest attractions and just a bus to beaches such as Bondi Beach :-)
Other Things to Note

The studio does not have AC. Installing AC in this studio would be in vain as the studio does not need extra cooling. The studio is on the top floor and has a wonderful cross breeze that all have loved and enjoyed. It also faces east so only gets the morning sun, not the hot afternoon western sun, were it on the other side of the building it would be a different story. The studio has a large fan (see pictures) if extra cooling is required, but beyond the fan, AC is not needed at all.
Standard Terms and Conditions of Temporary Holiday Accommodation
Note: Variances can be agreed on but only by arrangement with the owner in writing.
Provided will be: Pillows, Tea Towels, Blankets and Doona’s. Linen for one set will be supplied, if you require further linen, we can arrange a linen hire service that costs up to $75 a delivery.
Payment of the rental deposit constitutes the clients acceptance of these Terms and Conditions.
All bookings made accept these terms.
Cancellation, if caused by the client, 50% cancellation policy is not refundable unless the house is re-let for the entire period and only a $50 cancellation fee applies.
The owners will make every effort to ensure the property is available as booked. However the owners reserve the right to make alterations to bookings due to unforeseen circumstances.
To maintain a good standard for our guests we require certain conditions to be complied with. We appreciate most will respect our property but the occasional abuse requires that we state the following conditions.
Number of Guests should not exceed 2 adults or subsequently agreed in writing or email, and no more than 4 people in the apartment at one time. Fees will apply for excess guests not agreed with the owners in advance.
Parties and Functions are strictly prohibited. The price charged is for domestic use only and not commercial. Accordingly this rate does not allow for the extra wear associated with functions in terms of cleaning, garbage removal, wear and tear, repairs etc. Use contrary to this may result in additional payments.
Damage, Breakages, Theft and Loss are the tenants’ responsibility during their stay.
Personal Liability – it is the tenants’ responsibility for their own safety and welfare and owners are not liable for any harm caused to tenants’ welfare while at Darlinghurst Studio.
Departure - the property should be left in a similar state to its condition on arrival.
Check-in time is 2pm, as we often have back to back guests and require minimum 4 hours to clean and prepare the property in between guests.
Check-out time is 10am by the latest, to allow time to prepare property for next guests.
Disturbance to our neighbours, including excessive noise, is prohibited and may result in termination of rental and additional payments of 100% per night of excessive noise.
Security will be charged via airbnb. The total amount will be refunded through subject to the above conditions being met. It is designed to cover any additional costs incurred including but not limited to, any breakage, damage or excess cleaning requirements, extra guests beyond those declared ..etc.
Pets are not allowed unless specific arrangements have been made in writing with the owner.
Loss - the owners take no responsibility for the tenant’s personal property.
Variations to these conditions may only be made by prior arrangements with the owner in writing.

I knowingly and voluntarily assume these risks and full responsibility for any personal injury or illness, including death, that may be sustained by me, or any loss or damage to property owned by me, as a result of or in any way arising out of, my occupancy of this property, or in travel to and from this property. I acknowledge that I am solely responsible for medical or other costs arising out of any bodily injury, illness, or property damage or loss sustained by me through my occupancy. I hereby agree that in consideration of the host allowing me to occupy the property, I do for myself and my heirs, executors, administrators, and assigns hereby release, waive, and forever discharge the host, its officers, agents and employees from any and all liability, claims, demands, actions, or causes of actions arising out of or related to (i) any injury or illness, including death, that may be sustained by me or which I may cause during the course of my occupancy or (ii) any loss or damage to my property, while in occupancy and any activities incidental to the occupancy. I hereby agree to indemnify the host, its officers, agents and employees against all liability for any personal injury or illness, loss or damage to property, or costs, including court costs and attorneys fees that may result from or arise out of my occupancy.
This studio is an absolute joy! Stepping back in time to true Art Deco historic charm, the studio is exactly as pictured. It's big, full of light and airy with a beautiful cross breeze. The view from kitchen and bathroom and living room is magnetic. Watching the full moon rise is delightful. The historic lift and foyer is an experience of a bygone era, think New York Gotham style. I personally love character and atmosphere and you can't get better than this. Clean, bright, and you can't beat this location. Very comfortable bed, slept very well. No sound from neighbours and a very quiet cul-de-sac street. I am definitely returning.
Generally lovely. More upsides the downsides.
Downsides out of the way: no microwave, no air-conditioning, a bit noisy going to bed, smaller than pictures suggest.
The apartment is on the top (5th) flood. With the windows open, the cool breeze comes in nicely. We went to sleep with mild street noise. So we did not miss the air-conditioning.
On the upside, the apartment is in a fantastic location for exploring Kings Cross, Darlinghurst, Paddington, Potts Point etc. It is 1.5km from the city centre, and is a nice walk through Woolloomooloo. Kings Cross station is 600m away, and has very frequent subway trains to CBD and Bondi. The roof is really nice too. The surroundings are so nice: a park, gelato, so many restaurant choices, so many places to walk to. When we were in the apartment, we didn't mind the small size at all.
On Friday evening, the hot water ran out. A plumber was summoned, but could not fix it (massive pump needed changing). So we did not have hot water for 2 of 4 days that we were there. It affected the whole building (there are many apartments in the building), so this could have happened at any time, and this could not have been helped. Angelique got on to this immediately when notified and was very good about it. In spite of the hot water issues, the stay was still a very pleasant one and we would definitely be returning here next time we visit.
I had a great week in Angelique's gorgeous apartment. It's just as the pictures show: clean, bright and airy with plenty of character. It has lots of space: I had some friends over one evening and it never felt cramped. The apartment had everything I needed, and I was especially thrilled to see a hairdryer in the bathroom when I arrived! It was quiet at night, and the area is super – very trendy with lots of places to eat and drink nearby. (FYI: you're also one of Baz Luhrmann's neighbours!) It's about a 40-minute walk to Sydney Harbour and the Opera House, and a 5-minute walk to Oxford St, where you can get a bus to pretty much anywhere. While I never met Angelique, she was very helpful over email, and I guess it says more that I didn't need to contact her once I arrived. All in all, this has been one of my favourite Airbnb experiences, and I really hope to stay here again.

Enjoyed our stay very much. Owner was very accessible and prompt to reply. Great little studio apartment in a lovely older style building. Clean and everything we needed for a week long stay. Close to great food and coffee. We didn't have a car but was only a 5 - 10 minute walk to Kings Cross Station and buses close by. Nice places to walk as well. Only down side was it was a bit noisy but this is life in the city, I guess.
I booked this airbnb on behalf of my parents for a very last minute trip to Sydney, Angelique was most helpful and easy to get in contact with. My parents enjoyed the old building and lift, and thought the location was great as they could walk to all the main sights. They loved the studio, although it is very small. Many thanks!
I had a wonderful stay in Darlinghurst studio. The location is simply perfect for exploring Sydney's tourist attractions but even more importantly, the street life and people of this old neighborhood. It holds many fabulous features. I enjoyed every breakfast out in the 'breakfast capital of the world', and took a morning run around Rushcutters Bay Park to experience some of the real gems of the city. After 24 years since my last visit, I fell in love with this place all over again.
Darlinghurst studio is a small part of the old Art Deco Sydney in a developing city. This little space is filled with character and comes with an authentic Sydney feeling.
Angelique was a tentative host with a 'can do' attitude. I never met her in person but she armed me beforehand with a massive welcoming package, a lot of advice, and lightning speed response to any questions. I arrived late, and Angelique had a hassles key pickup sorted for me.
During my stay, there was an incident of water supply interrupted for 24h due to a pipe burst caused by a thunderstorm. Angelique was quick in taking action and keeping me up to date of the developments with the repairs.
We spent six days at Angeliques beautiful and bright studio and we can truly recommend it to any one looking for a perfectly located in Sydney's best area. We had a few problems around the booking, but Angelique solved it without trouble. We highly recommend staying at Angelique's place :)
