This villa was a dream come true! My husband and I spent 5 nights here on our honeymoon and loved every minute; as other reviewers have stated, the pictures do not do it justice. Raj was so helpful from the time we booked the place, sending information about the country, and many fun activities. Arlene made sure we could easily book activities and provided information while we were there. The villa is indeed off the beaten path and the driving was exciting, do make sure you rent a 4WD vehicle! But there were plenty of things to do within a couple hours drive, and we had a great time exploring the southern end of the Nicoya Peninsula. We also had ample time to relax by the pool with the most beautiful view you can imagine, and enjoyed massages on the pool deck with Anja. I would highly recommend this place!
This was a magnificent home! As others have posted, it is even better in person. Raj was excellent in his hosting from start to finish. He even sent an email asking if we had made it okay on our day of arrival.
Arlene was just as helpful, showing us to the villa and recommending things to do, places to see. The internet connection was fabulous and fast enough to stream Netflix for the kiddos in the evening.
It is a beautiful home, in a town that does not feel like a tourist trap. The small beach nearby was gorgeous. I definitely recommend this to anyone who is slightly interested or thinking about visiting Costa Rica.
It was very hot and took a couple of days for us to get acclimated to the heat. There is no A/C in the main room but the bedrooms were nice and cool.
I'm afraid my review is going to be very repetitive, echoing the others you have read. All of us can't be wrong. This place is pretty amazing. I've never seen such a perfect view. You actually have to peer around a corner to see another house, there's one on either side, but they are much lower and tucked back. The pool/patio offers a solid 180 view of the Nicoya Bay, and it is just perfect.
We liked this place so much, that I just had to ask my girlfriend to marry me with that view in the background. (I'm writing from her account) We'll never forget the time we spent at Roma del Mar. The house is the best part of the trip. Surround sound really sets the mood and made the house feel like ours with our favorite tunes playing in every room.
I have to disagree with many reviews on one note, the local beach, just down the dirt road, was a personal beach, gorgeous and inviting. The shore is composed of broken down shells, which were fun to look at and and not too bad on bare feet. It's a little rocky in the water, but it's warm, very private, and so close by. We were kicking ourselves because we waited till the last day to venture down the road. The beach is worth a stop, it felt like our beach for 2 full hours, just us and the birds.
If you are wanting to see some monkeys, go down to playa blanca, just about 10 minutes away from Roma Del Mar, when leaving the villa, take a left instead of a right which would take you to the main road. There is a massive tree at the end of the road when you hit the beach. It's right next to a former bar, that has been closed for a long time. We saw well over 20 howler monkeys in this tree, howling swinging, and being pretty active in the middle of the day. The area seems a little sketchy, as other reviewers noted, but we didn't have any problem and saw a great show.
You can hear two groups of howler monkeys from Raj's house, but neither are so close to keep you up at night or wake you in the morning, I was thankful for that.
Finally, the little market was great, Arlene was helpful and available, and Raj responds to emails as fast as you could imagine. This was very helpful to us when our flights were switched twice in the span of two days. We didn't miss a beat thanks to Raj and Arlene.
I hope to go back some day, bringing some friends with us next time. There is plenty to explore around the area, but just staying at the house, soaking in that view, and having a few cold Imperials will always sound like heaven to me.
We wanted to thank Raj for the beautiful Villa, it was by far the highlight of our vacation. The home is even more beautiful then the pictures on airbnb and we just couldn't get enough of the views from the back yard overlooking the bay. We used the home as a base from which we took daily excursions and it worked perfect since the ferry to Puntarenas is a 5 minute drive. Having said that, Arlene is the care taker for the Villa and she was wonderful in helping us book different activities like ziplining through the rainforest, horseback ridding, kayaking, name it...so much to do in Costa Rica. We would absolutely recommend this home for a vacation and would not hesitate to come back in the future, it was wonderful! Stefan and Jillian
raj was great communicator from initial email to the end... arlene is truly a find and was incredibly helpful, going above and beyond!.. everything was super-organized... the location is a little too far removed but if you want nothing more than to just lounge around the pool, it's perfect... the house is a little rough around the edges but is appointed with everything you could possibly need for a lazy vacation... the pool and the view are amazing...
arlene will arrange everything you need (thanks again, arlene!)... get massages from anja, and be sure to eat down the street at oasis - it doesn't look like much but elena is really a great cook and every meal is truly a homemade one :)
bottom line: just don't expect luxury like you would get at the multi-star hotels in arenal area and it'll be an excellent experience if you're going in knowing what you're getting yourself into...
My husband and I rented the villa for six days and it absolutely took our breath away! The view alone is totally worth the trip. Raj and Arlene were very prompt and professional in their responses to our inquiries and provided all of the necessary information before our arrival. They also gave great suggestions on how to make the best of our stay. We would highly recommend a pool-side massage by Anja, and eating at the local restaurants.
Although there is much to do in Costa Rica, this is also a great location for just putting your feet up and total relaxation! The infinity pool is a wonderful amenity, and we found ourselves using it several times a day. Roma Del Mar's beach is also very beautiful, and because of its exclusivity, is easily accessible at all times of the day.
We personally suggest a day trip to Playa Samara (about 1.5 hours' drive away) and Playa Blanca (about 5 km from the property). These are two amazing beaches, that you will not want to miss out on! Also, even though you will be reminded to rent a 4x4 vehicle for the trip, we urge everyone to not take this advice lightly!
Raj and Arlene, you two are awesome! And we hope to come back sometime in the near future...thank you!
Raj provided great information to acquaint us with his villa as well as transportation, shopping, sight seeing, etc. His online presence was impeccable.
The villa is beautiful and air conditioned bedrooms made for comfortable sleeping. However, the main area of the home is not a/c. We didn't spend many hours in the home other than sleeping, so overall not a problem....but it gets hot!
Although we had an incident upon arriving that required repairs. The workers were fast & considerate. Thanks, Raj!
