raj was great communicator from initial email to the end... arlene is truly a find and was incredibly helpful, going above and beyond!.. everything was super-organized... the location is a little too far removed but if you want nothing more than to just lounge around the pool, it's perfect... the house is a little rough around the edges but is appointed with everything you could possibly need for a lazy vacation... the pool and the view are amazing...
arlene will arrange everything you need (thanks again, arlene!)... get massages from anja, and be sure to eat down the street at oasis - it doesn't look like much but elena is really a great cook and every meal is truly a homemade one :)
bottom line: just don't expect luxury like you would get at the multi-star hotels in arenal area and it'll be an excellent experience if you're going in knowing what you're getting yourself into...
My husband and I rented the villa for six days and it absolutely took our breath away! The view alone is totally worth the trip. Raj and Arlene were very prompt and professional in their responses to our inquiries and provided all of the necessary information before our arrival. They also gave great suggestions on how to make the best of our stay. We would highly recommend a pool-side massage by Anja, and eating at the local restaurants.
Although there is much to do in Costa Rica, this is also a great location for just putting your feet up and total relaxation! The infinity pool is a wonderful amenity, and we found ourselves using it several times a day. Roma Del Mar's beach is also very beautiful, and because of its exclusivity, is easily accessible at all times of the day.
We personally suggest a day trip to Playa Samara (about 1.5 hours' drive away) and Playa Blanca (about 5 km from the property). These are two amazing beaches, that you will not want to miss out on! Also, even though you will be reminded to rent a 4x4 vehicle for the trip, we urge everyone to not take this advice lightly!
Raj and Arlene, you two are awesome! And we hope to come back sometime in the near future...thank you!
Raj provided great information to acquaint us with his villa as well as transportation, shopping, sight seeing, etc. His online presence was impeccable.
The villa is beautiful and air conditioned bedrooms made for comfortable sleeping. However, the main area of the home is not a/c. We didn't spend many hours in the home other than sleeping, so overall not a problem....but it gets hot!
Although we had an incident upon arriving that required repairs. The workers were fast & considerate. Thanks, Raj!
The villa is spectacular. It's view is better than the pictures - though the seems impossible I know. The surround sound music just enhances the whole experience (with the right music - I recommend Joa Gilberto). It's a magical place and you have your own personal concierge in Arlene. We can;t wait to go back.
This is the first time I used Airbnb and hit the jackpot. Raj was a perfect host from afar. This property is exactly as you see in the photos. I would call it a "Slice of Heaven". I was a little concerned visiting Costa Rica for the first time and staying in a remote area but we were well taken care of. Arlene, the property manager, is fantastic and speaks English. She booked excursions for us. I would definitely book the boat trip snorkeling then on to Tortuga Island with lunch! That was our favorite. Also plan on doing some cooking, the kitchen has everything needed and the market is very convenient. We woke up for the sunrise every morning and did yoga on the deck. A few things that we didn't realize as a "first timer"; The time of year, we were expecting to see GREEN but arrived the last week in March (Dry season) mostly brown. It was still wonderful and NO Bugs. Just not the rain forest I envisioned. However, we were able to see lots of birds, the Karen Morgensen Reserve was green and the hike to the waterfall was fun, we had monkey sightings and admired several varieties of butterflies. Birds visit the pool for a drink. We enjoyed the Parrots flying by the villa and the iguana's roaming. We used US dollars which everyone accepted, and it was fairly easy to calculate. $1.00 = 500 colones. OH.. Don't forget to book a massage with Anja, she was fantastic. It was like a dream on the deck with the view.. (Get the body scrub too) Raj will forward her information to you, I suggest you book it via email directly with her. I wish I booked 10 days instead of 7, the villa was so beautiful I wanted to stay and relax. There is a bit of construction going on, however except for a few trucks going by you can't hear anything.. No worries. Check out the Black Pearl restaurant on the water, but plan on cooking too. Find out when the store receives fresh fruit/veg deliveries and the pastry truck comes once a week too. This is not a "Resort", we very much enjoyed the beauty in a quiet setting without the touristy vibe. We loved our experience and Raj was the best host. Thank you Raj and Airbnb! Pura Vida!
This was the vacation of a lifetime! We (a family of three, Mom and two twenty-somethings) highly recommend this villa to anyone who isn’t afraid of being off the beaten path and wants to experience the real Costa Rica. A one to two hour drive from most anything touristy, this insanely beautiful and spacious house is your own private piece of paradise. The views are absolutely astounding, the privacy can’t be beat, and the amenities are truly first class. One of our favorite features was that the whole house, inside and out, was wired for sound, so you can plug in your iPod and play your music, really enhancing the relaxing atmosphere and without fear of bothering the neighbors.
You can walk down to the beach from the house, but it’s a little rocky there. Take a ten minute drive to Playa Blanca and enjoy a sandy swimming beach that the locals enjoy. Driving was fun and really gave us a taste of what life in Costa Rica is like, so if you are more traveller than tourist, that’s a plus! Make sure you take time to enjoy the house, but also take some adventures to beaches, ziplines, etc. You really don’t need to stop in Nicoya at the Maxi Pali for groceries, the shop at Roma del Mar is stocked well. There aren’t many local restaurants, but the ones that are there are phenomenal.
Raj and Arlene were very communicative and extremely helpful—made me feel very comfortable planning this trip - an absolute pleasure to work with. Don’t miss out on this amazing place!
