Villa Alicia is a luxurious home for those who enjoy good quality of staying with affordable price. Located in a village in Yogyakarta city, it shows a blend of modern & traditional life. Villa Alicia is build based on the concept of green building.
What we love most from our neighborhood is the river and its valley. Fresh air is coming from the Tambakboyo valley and distributed through a passive air circulation system, providing a countinuous fresh environment. Built in a Kampung (village) the villa is by nature surrounded by Bamboo trees. Together with beautiful sawah (rice fields) and river located just a few steps away, they provide fresh and cool air. The surroundings of the villa suits well to our commitment to green living. Organic waste is composted, grey water is separately treated in green beds, and hot water is provided from solar system. The design of the house is also reflecting green style of living.
Villa Alicia is a typical tropical house with private veranda in every room. From the veranda you can see the daily’s life of people in our village.
Guest will have access to the shared kitchen and living room, garage, garden, and cafeteria.
Interaction with Guests
When my kids are at school, I myself will be most of the time in the cafeteria, at the first floor of the villa. The cafe is open from 7 am to 9 pm, serving daily home cooking. As many students live in our village, the cafe is also serving students with student price, of course. So my guess can have a chat with me or other guess in the cafe while having a cup of coffee or fresh juice. You can also enjoy the view from the terrace, with nice music, or just busy with your gadget in this free wi-fi cafe.
What make our villa unique and worth to stay is the beautiful natural environment of the villa. There are Tambakboyo river and valley, Mataram channel, and camping ground nearby. The Mataram channel built during the Dutch period has been providing enough water even in the dry season for the rice fields and the fish ponds. You can enjoy a beautiful scenery while at the same time having contact with the local people in their daily activities. Most of our neighbors are farmers who make a living from their rice fields, fish ponds, or cattle. The river with its valley has been a blessing not only for the farmers, but also for students and visitors. Many students practice wall climbing at the bridge. Some people go fishing, others wash their motorbikes (and dogs) in the river. My kids like to play in the river, collecting stones (and garbage !).
Although Villa Alicia is just a few minutes away from the busy streets full of shops and education institutions, you can always run away a while and relax. Here you can find many choices of sport activities, indoor and outdoor. Even if your hobby is shopping! The biggest mall and supermarket in Yogyakarta is just 10 minutes from the villa.
Getting around in Yogyakarta by bikes or motorbikes is the easiest and cheapest way as the traffic is quite crowded. We have bikes and motorbikes (manual/automatic) to rent. Don't worry too much if you can't drive a motorbike. Driver is available upon request. Taking a becak (pedicab) can be fun and nice for sightseeing. Going by bus would be convenient but most of the time the bus stop is not near by your destination. Taxi is easy to get, not so expensive, and quite safe even for tourist who is on her/his first visit to Yogyakarta. Taxi pool is just 10 minutes away from the villa.
Other Things to Note
Villa Alicia is located near the hearth of Seturan and Babarsari, close to several famous universities (Gadjah Mada, Atmajaya, STIE YKPN, Sanata Dharma & UPN). Seturan and Babarsari are centers of educations as well as culinary. Many restaurants and food stalls serving Indonesian and westerns/oriental food are available here with relatively cheap price (local price). Villa Alicia has good access to Afandi Street (Jalan Gejayan), Jalan Solo and Ring Road. In Afandi Street near the University of Sanata Dharma and Atmajaya you can find some institutions to learn Indonesian and Javanese. Villa Alicia is just 10 minutes by car or motorbike from Adisucipto airport, 10 minutes to Ambarukmo Plaza, 10 minutes to Gadjah Mada University, 20 minutes to the center of the city, and 20 minutes to Prambanan Temple. So, if you are someone who want to get to know Indonesia better, not just from the tourist book or Lonely Planet, Villa Alicia is the right choice to stay!
We don't expect to have guess who is using drugs in the house/room. We would appreciate it very much if the guess can respect the local culture as our neighborhood is still quite traditional though we live in a big and modern city called Yogyakarta. The people of Yogyakarta themselves still put high values to their traditional cultures and values.
Rita is a great hostess and speaks English really well. She picked me up at the airport early in the morning and whisked me off to Villa Alicia. It is a beautiful place with a great staff, a great garden and if you know Yogyakarta well it is a great location, centrally located yet quiet and peaceful. I'm very, very comfortable here, so much so that I extended my stay.
Rita is really an amazing host. She is there to help you anytime and will give you tipps to do what you want to do. She is also there to bring you to the city or to the bus station. The food in the restaurant is delicious and not expensive at all. You should try the fruit juices, they are amazing! All the people working there are really nice. We enjoyed our stay and if we ever come back to Java, we will definitely come back to Villa Alicia!
Rita's guesthouse is a lovely new building which is kept super clean. There is a small restaurant with Indonesian and some western food at
Local prices, the staff are the happiest friendly people ever!
Rita is very helpful with local information and even picked me up from the airport herself.
It's a few kilometres from the centre but they rent scooters for a fair price.
I would recommend staying here if you don't want to be in the centre of Jogja.
Rita is a very nice host, I was visiting with my boyfriend and we had great time at her villa. If we are in Yogya again we will stay there again. It is a bit out of center, but we rented motorbikes at her place, so it was no problem. She even picked us up in airport and drove us to destination, from where we continiued our trip.
Rita is a most gracious and helpful host. She even picked me up and dropped me off at the airport. She is always ready to give helpful advice and has a cheerful demeanor that makes her company wonderful. The facilities are beautiful. A very convenient location but tranquil, the rooms are clean, beautifully appointed and spacious. I would say this is THE place to be for value-oriented travelers. She also rents scooters for a great rate. Thank you, Rita!
We stayed at Villa Alicia for 3 nights.
Rita is the best host ever! Friendly and very helpfull. We got several tips from Rita how to explore the environment. She picked us up at the airport (which is only 15min drive.) We rented a scooter from Rita for 2 days and went on our own to Prambanan and Merapi and Jogya-centre. The appartment is new, big enough and clean. Location is a bit outside of centre so renting a motorbike is recommended (only 35.000 rp per day). But we loved the location, quit and very relaxing outside of the smog from Jogya. Restaurant inside Villa is very good food for a even better price!
We have no remarks, complaints or anything. If we will stay at Jogya again we will for sure go to Villa Alicia! Stronly recommend!!

I am a mother of 2 lovely kids. I had lived and studied abroad and enjoyed travelling all over the world. It changed the way I think and live. I love to meet new people, from different countries, with many different cultures, and shared stories and experiences. I'd like to show to my kids and my neighbors that differences are beautiful if we can see the beauty in them. Let's start by seeing my beautiful daughter here. She is a blend of different cultures and values.
