Private room in my Columbia Heights row house. 4 blocks from the Metro Green/Yellow line which is a direct route to downtown, museums, monuments, and shopping. The house is full of vintage finds, and I live with my girlfriend and two amazing dogs.

The Space

Awesome 100 year old townhouse in the middle of Columbia Heights filled with vintage modern home furnishings. The private room has a full size bed, LCD HD flat-screen tv with cable and Smart Blu-ray player with Netflix, Youtube, HBOGo, and access to my large DVD collection. There is a desk with computer, wireless internet access, Stereo with Ipod hookup, and a mini fridge with refreshments and snacks. I have two very cool dogs, Ollie is a very lazy 3 year old Am. bulldog/ Dane mix, and Eddie a sweet deaf Am. Bulldog mix, both are very friendly and eager to make new friends. I'm located only a few blocks from multiple metro stops, and shopping and nightlife in Columbia Heights. For additional nightlife options there are tons restaurants and bar choices in nearby Adams Morgan, Mt. Pleasant, and U St. In the summer I build custom bicycles in my workshop so I have bicycles to rent if you need a way to get around. There's also a private backyard with a fire-pit and koi pond for relaxing outside.

Guest Access

Guests will have access to a shared bathroom, kitchen and the rest of the house. Feel free to cook a meal in my well stocked kitchen, or watch a movie or game in the living room, or just relax in your room.

Interaction with Guests

I or my girlfriend will be here to check you in and show you around. Once you've checked in you're free to come and go as you please. I often cook and if you're around you'll likely be invited to join us for a meal or hang out with our friends watching a movie or hockey game. If you like more privacy you can hang out in your room where there is a desk for getting some work done, and a tv with cable, and a smart blu-ray player with lots more entertainment options.

The Neighborhood

Columbia Heights is a fantastic place to live and visit. Convenient to everything going on in DC, the Columbia Heights Metro stop is your easy link to downtown monuments and museums. You can walk to restaurants and bars just up 11th st. or enjoy the fountain and community vibe in the
Columbia Heights center near the Tivoli Theater. U St. is a short walk to even more nightlife, restaurants, weekend flea markets, and even more shops. You'll really be in the middle of it all!

Getting around

The metro Green/Yellow line is just a few blocks away, and is a short 5 stop trip down to the monuments and museums without having to change trains. About 30 minutes door to door. It couldn't be easier!

  • Joel and Shannon were incredibly hospitable, going above and beyond expectations. The room was clean, comfortable and contained everything I could possibly need, including a desktop computer, mini-fridge and digital cable. Joel kindly offered his help with anything else I might need. The doggies were very sweet-- I got used to having them around during my stay and will miss them!

The house is like a museum, with so many interesting vintage finds. The kitchen has every piece of equipment you could want. There is a front porch and back yard to enjoy some outside time.

The neighborhood is beautiful and very conveniently located-- just walk down 14th, or further to U. Buses go down 14th and 16th to downtown (which I preferred to the Metro).

I would definitely stay here again and recommend to friends.

  • Had so much fun in Washington in part to the fantastic accommodation I had in Columbia Heights with Joel and Shannon
Made me feel as if I was part of their family for the 5 days
Interesting people who could not do enough to make my stay a memorable one
Dogs Eddie and Oliver were cool and no problem at all. Food company
My room was great with cable and a fridge that Joel kept stocked with drinks and snacks
I shared meals with Joel and Shannon along with stimulating conversation
Hired a bike off Joel and rode 10 minutes into town. Subway just around the corner and 3 stops to town. Perfect
Great pubs and restaurants a walk away
Joel is a collector and is renovating so the place has stuff everywhere but that just added to the overall appeal
So do yourself a favour and book in

  • It was such a pleasant stay at Joel's townhouse in Columbia Heights. I was there for a short trip. Joel was extremely accommodating to my check-in and check-out times. His girlfriend, Shannon, gave me a warm and friendly welcome when I first arrived. The AC was already going for me and the room was comfortable, clean, and well-equipped. They even have a mini-fridge stocked with water and snacks!

The townhouse, as advertised, is a short-walk from the Columbia Heights Metro; where Target, Bed Bath & Beyond and etc are located. Oliver and Eddie the dogs are great companions as well. I would love to stay here again should I need a place short-term in the future.

  • I had a really good stay at Joel's place. He was really good with giving recommendations on travelling around Washington, where to visit and what places are good to eat. The room was clean and was really nicely decorated and I really appreciated having snacks and being able to play music through air play!

  • This room is private, small, and cozy and has all the tech needed to enjoy a movie or cable (hello GoT marathon!) while going to bed or taking your sweet time getting up in the morning. It's the perfect little spot to post-up while enjoying the nightlife of Columbia Heights, U Street, Petworth, and Shaw.

  • We had a great stay at Joel's. Both he and his girlfriend were super-relaxed and welcoming. There's nothing like turning up on a hot day to an ice-cold beer waiting for you! They were very happy to help us out with tips on getting around town and what to see while we were there. The room itself was clean and comfortable. All in all - we had a great stay!

  • What a great first air bnb experience. Location, logistics, host/hospitality - absolutely no complaints. Joel was both very cool and accommodating.

Location: a wonderful old home with tons of character, located in a safe residential neighborhood within an 7-10 minute walk to the Metro and major retail. I felt very comfortable in the home and while walking around the neighborhood.

Logistics: Joel was communicative leading up my stay, and very accommodating with my late check-in and early check-out. He was there to greet me and give me a tour. The room was modest in size, but was clean, and had all the necessities - fast internet, A/C, mini-fridge (w/water & snacks), TV (w/cable), stereo, DVD player, and fresh towels, just as marketed.

Host/Hospitality: This made the trip for me. Joel and Shannon are awesome! After giving me the tour, Joel invited me to join him (email hidden) with Shannon and some friends, along with Ollie and Eddie (their amazing dogs). After a few beers, we headed back to the house, where we literally broke bread together...l tried some of Joel's delicious homemade sourdough, along with making taco bowls, and I tried one of Shannon's cookies (she's got skills). Chilled in the living room, and watched/listened to youtube videos for the rest of the night.

I seriously felt like I was visiting friends I'd known for years. Will definitely stay with them again, when I come back in town.

  • Joel was an awesome host. He pointed out some fantastic coffee and night life options to my girlfriend and I. House was really interesting and loved coming back to the two dogs. Definitely recommend!

  • Super relaxed hosts, comfortable room - with air conditioning and mini fridge which was much appreciated in the DC humidity/heat!

  • I stayed two nights with Joel. Joel was there to greet me on my arrival and he was very hospitable. His girlfriend Shannon was also very nice and I enjoyed talking with her too. Joel gave me a tour of his interesting home and was very eager to make me feel at home. My small room was comfortable with TV, ceiling fan and a/c. A small refrig in the room was stocked with bottles of water and snacks. I would recommend Joel as a host to others.
