Awesome 100 year old townhouse in the middle of Columbia Heights filled with vintage modern home furnishings. The private room has a full size bed, LCD HD flat-screen tv with cable, a desk with computer, wireless internet access, Stereo with Ipod hookup, and a mini fridge with refreshments and snacks. I have two very cool dogs, Ollie is a very lazy 3 year old Am. bulldog/ Dane mix, and Sonar a goofy deaf Am. Bulldog mix, both are very friendly and eager to make new friends. I'm located only a few blocks from multiple metro stops, and shopping and nightlife in Columbia Heights. For additional nightlife options there are tons restaurants and bar choices in nearby Adams Morgan, Mt. Pleasant, and U St. In the summer I build custom bicycles in my workshop so I have bicycles to rent if you need a way to get around. There's also a private backyard with a fire-pit and koi pond for relaxing outside.

My stay at Joel's was beyond expectation. Joel will make you feel right at home! The private room is very comfortable, nice tv with plenty of channels, and a mini fridge stocked with beverages and snacks. The house itself is super fun and quirky and the neighborhood is great. My favorite part was definitely his two adorable dogs! Joel and I even took them for a walk one morning on our way to get donuts. If you're not a dog fan you can easily avoid them, but trust me, you won't want to! I unfortunately got sick with a cold towards the end of my stay and I must say that I am so grateful that Joel was around! He offered some of his delicious home cooked curry chicken and also gave me some cold medicine. He is a kind, caring, friendly, and all around very cool person. I'm happy to have met him and happier to now consider him a friend!
It was the second time I stay at Joel's place, and if you repeat it is because he makes you feel like home. Besides, his place is absolutely fantastic. Room is huge, extremly comfortable bed, own TV and fridge. Joel gave me very valuable tips on nightlife, gastronomy and best city areas. Highly recommend it. Thanks again Joel!
I had a great weekend at Joel's place. I can say only the same as the guests before me: good room, much to explore & adore in the house and around, and helpful hosts. I loved the dogs! Would come back anytime.
Joel's place was great! His apartment is really cool, full of interesting decorations and knick-knacks. My room was great, with a TV, sound system, even a computer to use. Joel and his girlfriend were very accommodating, offering food and drinks and taking me out to see the DC nightlife. It's a hip neighborhood walking distance from cool bars and restaurants, but also a short walk from the subway to get downtown. Not the place to stay if you don't like dogs, but if that's not an issue, overall I'd highly recommend it!
I very much enjoyed staying at Joel's house. I stayed with Joel while looking for an apartment after moving to DC, and if I didn't live here now I would definitely stay again. Great location, lots of cool stuff, and adorable dogs!
What can I say - I feel right at home at Joel's house! I have just moved to DC and couldn't have had a better start than here for the first few weeks of my time in the US. Joel and Shannon are fabulous hosts and I very much hope we'll keep in touch once I move into my own flat.
When I visit a city I love to be in a neighborhood where I can get a feel for what life is like in that city. By staying at Joel's I was able to get a great feel for the pace of DC. Joel was really helpful in getting me acquainted with the area. He was extremely generous in sharing his home.
Columbia Heights is a great area to walk. The Metro is very convenient and is very near to stores and places to eat.
The Dogs are wonderful! They were an absolute pleasure to be around.
I really wish I could have stayed longer and would definitely return if I have the opportunity to visit Washington again.
Returned to Joel's place. Always a great host. Easy to get downtown from his place. I'll stay there again.
I enjoyed the stay at Joel’s place very much. It is close to the Columbia Heights and U-Street Metro, very cozy and safe. Joel has to nice large dogs, so I guess one should at least not be afraid of dogs to enjoy the stay. (I like dogs, so for me this was an excellent place!) I didn’t get to hang out with Joel and the other tenants too much as I was working the entire day. This was unfortunate, because from what I gather they had a pretty good time.
A really nice place to stay, with playful dogs and from a short walking distance to metro (Columbia Heights) and convenience stores. Joel is a cool host, with good advice and tips on the best places to visit ! I would definitely stay at his place on my next trip to DC !
