About this listing
Hello. I live here in this lovely Victorian apartment with patio garden, overlooking the sea and old town in Hastings. It's perfect if you want...
• to be a few mins walk from Old Town Hastings
• an area with local shops, bars and good restaurants
• to avoid the late night noise of Old Town Hastings
• the most popular residential street in Hastings due to the breathtaking panoramic oceanviews, castle and westhill green.
Welcome to your English seaside retreat!
• Your Bedroom
A large and comfortable double bed, in a modern bright room at the back of the apartment, so it's supremely peaceful and private. Bedroom looks out onto a petite, artistic Tuscan-style courtyard garden with colourful outdoor chairs for breakfast or a relaxing glass of wine. Half wardrobe and two drawers for storage space. Extra blankets. DVD player with screen (TV channels avail in lounge). Large range of DVDs to cozy up and watch if you feel like it! Hairdryer and hair-straighteners. Towels for guests.
• Extra Guests: the couch in the lounge is a comfy John Lewis pull-out double bed (sleeps 1 adult) or a single roller-bed stored in the hallway cupboard. The whole flat is ideally suitable for a couple, or 2 friends. Note that due to the nature of this apartment it is not suitable for children, so adults only, thank you.
• WIFI wireless internet access
Power shower (over bath). Help yourself to a luxurious bubble bath, shampoo, conditioner and shower goodies. I provide bath towels for guests.
• Kitchen and living room
You are welcome to use the kitchen and fridge. I don't officially provide breakfast but you can help yourself to porridge or breakfast cereal in the kitchen. I have a selection of tea and coffee available so help yourself. The front patio overlooks the hill and sea; great as a summer breakfast spot. I am always away when guests book the apartment, so you have the place entirely to yourself!
• Westhill Green
You will be looking out across the lush green hilltop immediately outside the apartment, with panoramic views all around Hastings and the Castle. I often walk across in the morning enjoying a cup of tea and the sea views. Perfect meditation spot. Many writers enjoy my flat as it's peaceful and idyllic. Enjoy a picnic and bottle of wine on the hill during summer! Or use the gorgeous back courtyard outside kitchen door for a Mediterranean style evening!
Take across a few of the outdoor garden chairs, onto the westhill. It's literally outside the front door! Great place to watch the sunset with champagne in evening! (As a convenience, I usually have a bottle of nice bubbly and wine chilling in the fridge and a few picnic snacks for convenience. Guests are welcome to enjoy these and pop the replacement cost in kitchen jar!)
• Local area
Across the road is Hastings Westhill cafe next to the castle, for coffee overlooking the sea. Hastings Old Town is 3 minutes walk and has many breakfast cafes, bars, restaurants and some tucked-away antiques stores and art spaces such as the impressive Jerwood Gallery. A favourite spot for dinner is Porters in the old town, which does fabulous roasts, great wine list and jazz or acoustic music Sunday afternoons. Hastings is quite reasonably priced for nights out.
Of course, walking along the seafront is a perfect way to enjoy Hastings. Plenty of local walks along the coastline and promenade areas. For instance, if you enjoy a brisk morning walk, it's 30 minutes to St. Leonards cafes or 60 minutes along the seafront to "The Beach Cafe" (at Glyne Gap, just before Bexhill) for a traditional English beachside breakfast.
Nearby Rye is a very popular ancient village which you can travel to by car (15 mins) or bus.
• Travel from London
Trains from London to Hastings depart from Victoria, Charing Cross, Canon Street and London Bridge regularly 7 days a week. It's around around 1 hour and 15 mins travel time by train. Check train times on TheTrainLine website. Taxis are about £5 from Hastings station to my apartment. Or 15 minutes walk to/from apartment to Hastings station.

Entire apartment, private courtyard garden out the back with small table/chairs.
Interaction with Guests
No interaction during stay. I am not home when guests are at the apartment (am often travelling for work or running Retreats on weekends). So you have the space all to yourself.
You are welcome to help yourself to the wine and in fridge or nibble goodies in the picnic basket in the kitchen. Just leave replacement cost in the tin ... !
I prefer no shoes worn in the apartment, to encourage cleanliness and hygiene on floorboards and creme carpet. Easiest to leave shoes on the runner in the hallway. Thank you!
Please no pets in the apartment.
The flat was fantastic- even better than anticipated with the most amazing view over the cliff across the sea.
Alexis was easy to communicate with before and after the trip.
A lovely touch was the basket of snacks and an honesty tin to contribute to.
The pictures make the flat look smaller than it is. It is actually quite spacious.
The location is amazing, just up the hill from the Old town. There is also a massive Morrisons supermarket a 6 mins walk away.
Didn't actually get to meet Alexis as she was away working but she was available by text and was very helpful.
The apartment was in a great location which provided lovely views over the town and the sea.
Had a great time in hastings and Alexis place was a great stay in a great location with an amazing view of the ocean and the old town just a 10 minute walk down the hill. It was our first time using airbnb so a little hesitant when first arriving but settled nicely. A cosy apartment with plenty to read :) Thanks Alexis
Perfect location just 5 minutes up the hill from Old Hastings. It was great to have the whole place to ourselves and save some money by doing our own evening meals. Alexis had kindly left us some milk which we used and then replaced. She also left a box of things we could eat and then either replace or contribute money to pay for them. We would love to come back in the summer to enjoy the beach. Great to be able to walk from her front door all the way to Rye and then catch a bus back so easily.
We had a wonderful time in Hastings. The flat is in a superb location, near the sea and the Old Town, as well as in easy reach of shops. Unfortunately we didn’t get to meet Alexis, but she gave us some really good tips for New Year’s Eve by text message. We’d definitely come again.
Having arrived in Hastings on a brilliant sunny day , it was exhilarating to walk up West Hill to Alexis' apartment ( its a steep walk , especially if dragging a wheelie suitcase ! ). We found it easily and it does have a magnificent sea view. The apartment had everything we needed and Alexis leaves food and snacks, with an Honesty box system . The apartment soon heated up and was warm and cosy. Hastings, especially Old Town is full of interesting shops and bars, and now the Jerwood gallery is great to visit. The apartment is a 10 minute walk to Old Town, a bit longer and more strenuous coming back ! I would recommend Alexis' apartment for those who want peace and quiet and to be high up above Old Town with brilliant views, but near enough its shops and bars. Over the last few years the B and Bs in Hastings have become ridiculously expensive , charging London prices , so this is a cheaper alternative with wonderful views.

About the Host, Alexis
I love travelling and am Australian (from Melbourne) living in UK for over 15 years. I truly LOVE beautiful, historic Hastings and Battle. 8 years ago I was walking through the quaint Old Town and decided "Wow this place is great ... I'm moving to Hastings!" So I did : )
I am a human resources trainer and consultant, so am often away with work. On weekends I usually run yoga and meditation retreats for The Happiness Centre and laughingbuddharetreats (see my Farmhouse listing for Battle), so my Hastings apartment is available to use most weekends (wish I was there more often myself!).
I can point you in the right direction for local lively entertainment. Hastings is well known for it's underground artistic and creative community!!
I welcome people to come stay at my modern and cozy seaview Victorian apartment in Hastings, as I'm often in London for work (entrance keys are ALWAYS readily available in a convenient key-safe outside the apartment) ....come enjoy this idyllic apartment overlooking the sea and a few minutes walk across a lush green field into the Old Town Hastings.
Magical and breathtakingly beautiful views. Perfect for a romantic weekend get-away or renting out for a few days at a time.
I look forward to welcoming you : )
