The space
"I wake up, it's 2: 00 in the morning. My son sleeps beside me
deeply. There is a great silence, only the fire still bursts.
and every time I'm here, I think about what a privilege it is to sleep on this
comfortable futon in front of the lit fireplace. I look at the room, with its
beams and everything in here corresponds to me, it's my home.
ideal.
This piece of ancient canoe that I bought on my trip to Bali
has now become a piece of furniture, cushions sewn by me, the fireplace created
with two old railroad sleepers, the tavern table,
travertine marble sinks carved by an old marble artist
family friend, my shower, created with pebbles collected by us
in the bed of a river in Tuscany, the door and the bathroom window
created with the doors of the old door of the house, the stove,
embedded in the rock that enters the house from the mountain, even
the gate and the railings are an original design invented just
for this house.
From the door on the alley of the historic center filters the yellow light of the
old street lamp, it's cold outside. We always like it when we are here
for the weekend, take a walk in the evening, after a good dinner in the
our favorite restaurant, the old town looks like a small
nativity scene and the walk on the lake leads to discover the stars and
admire the moon and its reflections. We live in Rome, and this is
our refuge, in just 30 minutes by car we arrive here and
it feels like entering another dimension. summer is all
so vital, we only move by bicycle, everything is easy
reachable, even the outdoor cinema is 5 minutes from home.
Even our friends who come to visit us can enjoy the
free service of the country that provides bicycles. In
the morning we go to the beach for a swim and a canoe ride, the
afternoon at 2 pm the wind always rises and the lake is filled with
sailboats, there are many sailing circles where it is possible
also rent one. Then there is ice cream, a greeting to
our bowling friends and sometimes also a visit to the beautiful park
games in an olive grove on the lake with skating rink and basketball court.
My son loves nature.
walks in the woods, a trip to the riding stable and a visit to the Rapaci Centre
of Rocca Romana. if we want to isolate ourselves a bit, sometimes we go
in the nearby lake of Martignano which is a beautiful nature reserve
or at the Viterbo spa or the Stigliano spa near Canale
Monterano, another beautiful trip!
The shops, they are no less. Our favourites: Workshop House where
you can find delicious Provencal-style items, London Polo for
vintage clothes, Il Forno near the Gulf Bar where you can
eat the best cut bread and pizza in the world at Bar Da
Ermete where you can have breakfast with delicious croissants and La Pescheria Da
Alessandra where every summer we buy no less than 20 kg of mussels,
clams and fresh fish for our home dinners.
The other two villages overlooking the lake are also not
to be missed; Anguillara with its characteristic alleys and Bracciano with
its spectacular Castle. And if you really feel like
it, we can reach them by ferry that makes the
around the lake and stops in the three countries.
I look at the fire again and like every time I'm here I think
I want to live there, I turn off the light and good night!"
