I have a stunning little cabin up in the Blue Mountains, sitting quietly beside a creek. You won't find anything quite like it.
The building is an old shed that I have rebuilt from recycled materials; it is hard to describe, but it has affectionately been labeled 'The Hut'. There is one large warehouse style room with a loft bed, a day bed, a desk below the window and big slow combustion stove. The second smaller room is the sitting room/kitchen with an old school gas stove and everything you need for making a feast! Except a fridge...please read on.
This property is deliberately simple. Power is solar, water is gravity fed from a water tank up the hill, there is a loo with a view just behind the hut and the shower is outside in an old wine barrel. You may just have to trust me on this one - but once you have bathed with currawongs warbling, or showered under a starry sky, you can be transformed.
Now in talking of the simple charms, the hut is still extremely comfortable. There is instant gas heating and gas hot water. I supply lovely flannelette sheets, and soft towels. There are books, games, and rugs and wood for the slow combustion stove (for your first night). There is no internet, TV & phone service is spare. And yet it is not completely isolated.
The hut is only 5 minutes drive from Katoomba and the world famous Three Sisters. You can even catch the '697' bus from the train station. But then again, once here, it is best to stay... Hike down to Minni Ha Ha Falls, explore the extensive bush walks or jump across the creek and wander up the track to Leura for a beer at the Alex.
It is a hard place to describe in a few words so if you are curious, please send me a few words and I will respond happily. If you are going to book, please have your verifications sorted first. Thanks.

You are coming for an experience as well as a place to stay. If you are after something that it not ordinary (in a peaceful kind of way) then you are in the right place.

This cabin really is something special, a one of a kind experience that my partner and I will remember for a long time. The cabin is simple but also incredibly luxurious. Josh's design is on point. The fire, the outdoor shower, comfy bed and having walking tracks at the door are winners. We will be back! Highly recommended.
We really couldn't have asked for a betted mid week escape. This cabin is so beautiful and simplistic it's hard to leave.
Indoor fire, outdoor shower, beautiful big windows geesh it's everything I want to have myself. Joshua was great host. Will most certainly be back very soon ! Thankyou so very much !!!
Wonderful ambience with the wilderness and the fire place. The silence was amazing and restorative.
Everything we hoped for especially the hot outdoor shower. I'm grateful for Josh's vision.
I cannot rave about this place enough - I didn't want to leave! Josh was pleasant and communicative right from the start and the cabin far exceeded my expectations. The location is perfect - secluded but not remote - and the cabin itself is comfortable, cosy and bursting with character. It is equipped with everything you need from torches and candles to kitchen supplies, plenty of warm bedding and even down to the finer details like gumboots, spare toothpaste and painkillers for just in case. I loved the quirk of the outdoor shower and toilet and there is plenty of information onsite about what to do in the surrounding areas. My boyfriend and I came away feeling rested, refreshed and ready to come back soon!
I can't say enough how much we fell in love with this place. Thank you for sharing it with us, Josh.
Josh made me feel beyond welcome! I love nature and this was a fabulous place to recover from jet Lag! I prefer this sort of lodging to a hotel. Minihaha falls is a must in my opinion and it is right there near the hut. Showering outdoors is amazing and felt fabulous. Josh describes the place quite well so read all about it and you won't be disappointed. I met two of his friends and they all feel like friends I want to stay in touch with as well as everyone I met in the blue mountains. Everything you might want to see in the blue mountains is nearby and easily accessible. My only regret is I didn't see any swamp wallabies! i would definitely stay there again on my next visit to katoomba! Oh yeah get one of those charging sticks if you are concerned about your phone battery running out. I havent tried one yet but I hear they are useful.
During our five night stay we experienced the full spectrum of mountain weather, and Josh's hut is a unique and secluded space in which to wake to brilliant sunshine, shrouding mists or pummelling rain. It's clearly a labour of love - despite the hut's simplicity we had the sense Josh had thought of everything and we appreciated the lovely small touches and attention to detail. Raid the bookshelves, devour the guidebooks to mountain walks, swing in the hammock, sip tea on the patio at the bush's edge, then go and explore the beauty of the mountains. We found Josh to be attentive, helpful and a great communicator, with lots of helpful tips for making the most of the hut and its surrounds.
