About this listing
Simple, clean, spacious bedroom with private bathroom in a cute, contemporary Mexican home. Your room has a super-comfy queen bed, TV/DVD player with movies, and a Romeo & Juliet balcony. Enjoy use of the kitchen, rooftop terrace, and charcoal grill.
Our guest room will make you say, "Ahhhhh!" The bed is super-comfortable...and after a long day of soaking up the sights of San Miguel, you will relish relaxing in the uncluttered space, under high "boveda" ceilings, a fresh breeze wafting through the room...perfect for taking a nap! We live in a safe, quiet Mexican neighborhood with cobblestone streets, not a gated community. Our house is a great home base for your time in San Miguel. One queen bed sleeps two. Your private bathroom has a roomy shower supplied with towels, soap and shampoo. (Other toiletries such as toothpaste, shaving cream, etc., can be purchased at a little shop around the corner.)
The rooftop terrace is a favorite spot for our guests, especially those who need to use the Internet because you'll get a wireless connection up there and throughout the house. We offer a large kitchen with refrigerator, microwave, toaster oven, crock pot, stovetop, coffee maker, blender, and citrus juicer. Fix a meal and use the dining room table at your leisure. You may have all the drinking water you want from two large dispensers, one upstairs outside your room and one in the kitchen. (Use this for cooking, as well.) You're welcome to make coffee or tea any time, and we ask for a donation to replace that. Local phone calls are free to land lines only. If you'd like a Mexican cell phone to use while you're in San Miguel, we'll get one for you and set it up with emergency phone numbers (400 pesos per phone, 200 pesos refunded when you leave, or you can take the phone with you). If you'd like to use a fan, a heater, or a hair dryer during your stay, just ask.
Interaction with Guests
You'll be staying with a musician who's on the go, especially in the evenings, and a freelance writer who works at home by day and loves to go out at night. We can tell you anything you want to know about sight-seeing, restaurants and nightlife. Wherever we go for the evening, you're invited! We have three rescue dogs: Salsa is a fluffy Maltese who loves attention but sticks by her "momma" most of the time; Amigo is a guard dog (golden lab) who is very protective and needs time to get accustomed to guests in the house. For that reason, we will restrain him when you are coming and going, and we ask that our guests do not bring children or pets. Tocayo (medium-size lab mix) is our latest addition and Amigo's best friend. He is friendly but kind of a rascal who will slip out and run around the neighborhood if given half a chance, so we keep a close watch on him.
Two blocks from the house is a park with a basketball court, soccer field and playground. There is a popular restaurant called Tacos Don Felix within walking distance, and small stores called "tiendas" where you'll find fresh fruit and vegetables, eggs, tortillas, beer, and other staples. And the all-night pharmacy is just a 10-minute taxi ride away.
Taxis are a great option but you can also walk downtown in 20 minutes, along the famous Avenida Independencia, where patriotic and religious parades and festivals are held. The bus downtown is 5 pesos and stops 2 blocks from the house. For a bus to the shopping mall, the grocery store, or the Tuesday morning market, walk 5 blocks to the ring road (Libramiento). Also, we have a car, and depending on our schedules, we'll be happy to let you hitch a ride wherever we're going.
Other Things to Note
Many local restaurants deliver pizza, Mexican, Indian, sushi, Chinese, hamburgers or Italian food from early morning until 11pm. We provide menus and can help you place your order if you don't speak Spanish. If you need snacks, batteries, medication, or other provisions in the middle of the night, go to Farmacia Guadalajara (10 minutes by taxi or if we're up, we'll take you)—it's open 24x7x365.
No smokers and no smoking anywhere on the premises. Only registered guests allowed in the house. Please lock the doors from the outside when you leave and from the inside when you arrive. Whenever you need us, we'll be downstairs in the office, or in the bedroom next to yours—just knock!
A Romeo & Juliet balcony off your room looks over the entrance to the house, and you can also see the park from here.
