The Space

Our one bedroom cottage located in the Santa Cruz Mountains on a gated property, is a beautiful and comfortable place to relax and unwind. It sleeps 2 or 4 with 2 in the double bed in the bedroom and 1 or 2 in the fold out hide a bed in the living room There is also a single pad with bedding available for inside or outside deck sleeping. Inside the cottage there is a large flat screen TV with cable, a DVD player and a selection of movies and DSL internet. There is also a stereo system and a collection of cd's. We have a full kitchen with an antique gas stove, a microwave and an assortments of tea's, coffee and the basic condiments and the well drinking water is excellent. There is a wood burning stove in the living room with plenty of wood and the walls are adorned with vintage rock and roll posters. On the deck we have a jacuzzi hot tub, a barbecue with charcoal and patio furniture. There are large, clear skylights that afford a view of the redwoods while offering beautiful lighting. All linens and towels are provided. Adjacent to the cottage is two hammocks and a Chartres labyrinth in the middle of a redwood circle.

For travelers this is the best of both worlds. A cozy cottage nestled in the redwood forest, 10 minutes off of HWY 1(Pacific Coast HWay), the main vein to Monterey, Carmel-by-the-Sea, Big Sur, Capitola and Santa Cruz and 6 minutes from HWY 17.

People come from all over the world to experience the Pacific Coast specifically the Monterey Bay area. It is an area rich in history. Here you will find world-class art, music, cuisine, golf, surfing, sightseeing, hiking, biking, sunbathing, whale watching, birding, fishing, Monterey Bay Aquarium, Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk and so much more. You can spend the day engaged in a variety of activities, physical and/or cultural. However you spend your day you can return home to your cottage nestled in the quiet redwoods.

The weather here is excellent. Winters are mild we average 25” of rainfall a year. Summers can be warm but delightful. The weather is nearly perfect. Fog burns off at the ocean early enough to make the beaches comfortable all day.

The Santa Cruz Mountains are home to Sequoia Sempervirens commonly known as a Redwood Tree. They are native only to a specific part of Pacific Coast region. Come and visit our amazing part of the world and experience something special about the California Coast. It is truly amazing to stand on the labyrinth in the middle of 200 foot redwoods. There are 4 or 5 excellent restaurants within 15 minutes of our home.

The caretaker/owner Jay and Linda live on the property, along with a dog and 2 cats. We are excited about sharing this slice of heaven nestled in the redwoods.

  • We had a wonderful stay here & this cottage was even better than listed! It was peaceful, beautiful and warm. And deeply relaxing surrounded by redwoods.. and the house has 2 huge skylights. (Imagine waking up in the morning & looking up through the roof at redwoods… need I say more?) This is definitely the place to go if you want to unplug & recharge.

Jay and Linda are very hospitable, greeting us after we arrived to show us around and leaving us with a helpful house manual. Though they live on the property, we seldom saw them & had complete privacy. We knew they were there if we needed anything… but we didn't.

The cottage is a bit of a drive to town, however we didn't mind because we'd leave in the morning for day long hikes or just spend the day enjoying the cottage. There are a couple of organic farms on the drive in so one day we picked up produce (The Farmstand) to cook for dinner that night… an amazing selection & yummy! We took away special memories of our time there & look forward to staying again at this peaceful cottage.

  • Jay and Linda were great! They were very friendly and helpful when we checked in and gave us our space the rest of the week. The place was gorgeous with redwoods growing through the porch next to the hot tub. We honeymooned here and it was a beautiful getaway close enough to go out to dinner in Santa Cruz or spend a day in San Francisco (both of which we got to do) and cozy enough to stay in. We grilled almost every night for dinner. I would highly recommend them and their space!

  • A big thank you to Jay and Linda for sharing their beautiful property with us. After a stressful few months in the city, this amazing cottage, which was surrounded by redwoods, was the perfect getaway to get some rest and clear our minds. It was beautifully decorated cottage with fun and trippy classic rock posters (especially the Grateful Dead which I personally vibed with ;). The deck was something amazing, providing a breathtaking view of the property with all the comfort in the world. We were all able to appreciate the beauty of the redwoods just lounging around on the property. It was so nice having a little cookout on the deck using the outdoor grill while listening to music (which is hooked up surround sound inside the cottage). Jay and Linda were both very helpful, giving us tips about the Soquel and Santa Cruz area, like where to eat and cool places to visit. While they technically do live on the same property in the main house, they were extremely respectful of our privacy and gave us all the space in the world so that we all felt right at home. Once again, thank you Linda and Jay for sharing something so beautiful and downright therapeutic with the rest of the world. We all truly felt blessed. We will definitely stay there again in the future!

  • Our stay here was brief, but we loved it! The cottage itself is bright and welcoming, with a wood-burning stove and a hot tub out on the deck. The surrounding redwoods make for a quiet, relaxed atmosphere, which was exactly what we needed after a stressful week. Jay & Linda have generously provided everything a guest could need, and the place feels like home.

Nearby favorites: Soquel's antique shops, coffee and scones at Gayle's Bakery, and a walk along the bay in Capitola.

  • The cottage was wonderful, with surrounding Redwood trees lifting the eyes high to the sky. Everything was as expected, which to us meant beautiful, comfortable, and cozy. The cottage was a bit closer to Jay and Linda's house than expected, but they were so nice and laid back but ready to help us in any way that it didn't negatively affect our great three-night visit there.

Major pluses included their flexibility on check-in and check-out times, the big two-person tub on the deck, a gas grill, the sweet and friendly cats (Romeo and Jake), the skylights throughout the cottage, making us feel like we were living in a tree house, and the quiet and fresh air. We also enjoyed the stereo, which we could play throughout the cottage and out on the deck. The weather was too gorgeous to use the wood stove, but it would have been great on a colder day.

The location was ideal for feeling away from it all with the convenience of civilization within a short drive. We easily explored Santa Cruz, Monterey Aquarium, Big Basin Redwood State Park (not to be missed), and several beaches.

    Highly recommended.

  • Loved this place! Charming, secluded, beautiful redwoods, yet only 15 mins drive to beach. We especially enjoyed the outdoor tub under the redwoods, the BBQ on the deck, the fireplace, the skylights in every room, and of course all of Jay's amazing vintage Grateful Dead posters which was a real treat for a fellow Dead fan :) I also loved all the little details about the place that made it even more special, like having mini speakers in every room that are connected so when you're playing music you hear it everywhere you go including the deck... and the light above the outdoor tub that points up into the redwood trees so you can admire them while taking a nighttime soak. Thanks Jay & Linda for sharing this special place with us, we're grateful to have stayed there.

  • Thank you, Jay and Linda! The cottage was beautiful, warm, quiet, the view was beautiful, and the Internet was suprisingly fast for an are that has no cell service. I would have no hesitations booking another relaxing weekend there!

  • Jay and Linda are two very kind and respectful people who have a beautiful property nettled in the woods. The location is great, a 10-15 minute drive to downtown Capitola and Soquel. The cottage was clean and tidy and had everything I needed to stay in and BBQ and cook with my boyfriend. We loved the old vintage rock posters and enjoyed their fabulous music collection. It rained the whole time we were there so we spend the whole two days playing games, sitting by the fire and enjoying their hot tub. Overall, it was a great romantic trip and I would highly suggest this hidden jem. We will be coming back in the summer!
