Our one bedroom cottage located in the Santa Cruz Mountains on a gated property, is a beautiful and comfortable place to relax and unwind. It sleeps 2 - 4 people, with 2 in the queen bed in the bedroom and 1 or 2 in the (full size) fold-out hide-a-bed in the living room There is also a single pad with bedding available for inside or outside deck sleeping. Inside the cottage there is a large flat screen TV with cable, a DVD player, and a selection of movies and DSL Internet. There is also a stereo system and a collection of CD's. We have a full kitchen with an antique gas stove, microwave, refrigerator/freezer, an assortment of tea's, coffee, basic condiments, and the tap water from our well is safe and excellent to drink. There is a wood burning stove in the living room with plenty of wood and the walls are adorned with vintage rock & roll posters. On the deck we have a jacuzzi hot tub, a gas barbecue, and patio furniture. There are large, clear skylights that afford a view of the redwoods while offering beautiful lighting. All linens and towels are provided. Adjacent to the cottage are two hammocks and a Chartres labyrinth in the middle of a redwood circle.
For travelers this is the best of both worlds. A cozy cottage nestled in the redwood forest, 10 minutes off of HWY 1 (Pacific Coast Highway), the main vein to Monterey, Carmel-by-the-Sea, Big Sur, Capitola and Santa Cruz, and 6 minutes from HWY 17.
People come from all over the world to experience the Pacific Coast specifically the Monterey Bay area. It is an area rich in history. Here you will find world-class art, music, cuisine, golf, surfing, sightseeing, hiking, biking, sunbathing, whale watching, birding, fishing, Monterey Bay Aquarium, Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, and so much more. You can spend the day engaged in a variety of activities, physical and/or cultural. However you spend your day, you can return home to your private cottage nestled in the quiet redwoods.
The weather here is excellent. Winters are mild we average 25” of rainfall a year. Summers can be warm but delightful. The weather is nearly perfect. Fog burns off at the ocean early enough to make the beaches comfortable all day.
The Santa Cruz Mountains are home to Sequoia Sempervirens commonly known as a Redwood Tree. They are native only to a specific part of Pacific Coast region. Come and visit our amazing part of the world and experience something special about the California Coast. It is truly amazing to stand on the labyrinth in the middle of 200 foot redwoods. There are 4 or 5 excellent restaurants within 15 minutes of our home.
The caretaker/owner Jay and Linda live on the property, along with 2 young cats. We are excited about sharing this slice of heaven nestled in the redwoods.

It is ALL about the vibe. This was our first Air BNB experience and we don’t believe it could have gone any better. We wanted redwoods, seclusion, and to be away from the hustle and bustle of the city. We wanted to sit under starlit skies away from light pollution, and to watch the sun rise and set in the forest with nothing but the sounds of the forest in our ears. Check, check, check! The cottage is right IN the middle of a bunch of Redwoods. It is warm and inviting, traditional in decor, and is very clean; very well kept. We were very pleased to discover this was the case. Everything worked! Although we were deep in the forest we enjoyed all the creature comforts we could have asked for. We could not have asked for better hosts. Jay & Linda were so welcoming and accommodating, they were the best hosts.
They walked us through all the cottages amenities during check in & provided an outdoor grill, along with essential kitchen ware, so we were able to cook up a feast with the groceries we bought from a nearby market. A lovely stereo system is also available for use, along with a great music library, which includes Grateful Dead, live at Woodstock CDs along with other CDs from the era, which brought the cool posters that cover the walls to life. The stay was so good for our souls, to be able to enjoy so much peace and quiet that this place offers. It was nice to know though, that if we needed anything, our hosts were a stone’s throw away. We totally valued that. There was so much to enjoy, from the roads leading in, the coffee shop at the crossroad, to the wineries along the roads, to the stillness of the area of the forest the cottage sits in. A weekend didn’t seem like enough time. We would definitely recommend this to family and friends and can’t wait to go back.
Jay and Linda were very helpful and met us on arrival. They helped explain how to use the gas heaters and stove in the house and oriented us to the wifi and electronics as well. The house was perfect for us and our dog. There is a nice back porch with chairs, although we didn't get a chance to use it this trip because of our sight-seeing plans! (A side note: we didn't realize that the property would be so close to the main house where the owners live-- this is really not a big deal for us, but for those looking for complete seclusion it may be important to be aware of the proximity.)
We had another great weekend at the cottage. Laying on the beach, catching up the monarchs, gazing at the redwoods from our deck and even getting a great peek at Jupiter every night. For nature lovers and star lovers the view at the cottage cannot be beat. My 7 year old loved the pull out couch, the piano and of course the hot tub. It's great to be nestled in the redwoods and away from all of the tourists in Santa Cruz and still be just minutes away from all the touristy stuff and the ocean. Sad to leave but looking forward to next year! Just to note...the pic of the living room is not current...there is now a very nice pull out couch and coffee table.
Wonderful place to shack up for the weekend! We loved that you can stare up at the wildlife in the trees through enormous skylights in the house and the outdoor jacuzzi. Jay & Linda were super gracious and their place is beautiful. Hope to return soon!
Jay and Linda were so hospitable and welcoming! They showed us around the house as soon as we arrived, which was the cutest and coziest little cottage in the woods! All in all we had an amazing experience here and would definitely rent this place again! The cottage is even better in person than it is in pictures and comes fully equipped with all supplies and amentities that you'd need! Thanks for a wonderful weekend Jay and Linda!
We absolutely loved staying at Jay and Linda's! The house is beautiful and warm, and a night in the hot tub looking up at the massive red woods is pretty unbeatable!
Jay and Linda were amazing hosts! Showed us everything we needed to know about the cabin and also gave us great tips for stuff to do in Santa Cruz.
The cabin itself was beautiful. The skylights, the fireplace, the hot tubs, were incredible. It was really peaceful staying out there and I would definitely love to come back!
