*note: I haven't logged in in a couple weeks and have 87 messages. I'm sorry I can't keep up. There really are a lot of messages to answer and I've been extremely busy. I'm sorry.
My loft is available August 13th to 27th. It might be available in September. I have a month to month renter, currently, who just keeps staying and staying. He is from France and will be going home Aug. 13th to Aug. 27th. It will be clean and available for rent for those two weeks. For September, it is unknown if he will stay at the moment because I may have to raise the price and I'm not sure if he wants to pay as much as it may need to go. Currently I am renting out my apartment for less than the cost which is 1070$ plus utilities, internet and TV. I would like to get close to my cost or to receive all of my cost, when renting, beginning in September. Please write to me if you are still interested for Aug 13th to 27th or if you would be interested after September, at an increased price. And, I'm sorry again for not answering.
I prefer stays of at least 3 weeks. Shorter stays can be possible in between two other guests but short stays are usually not ideal for me because I am far from my loft and it's difficult to manage the comings and goings of many, short stays.
I'm the tenant of this loft. I re-rent my loft because I rent another apartment in Ontario and work and spend most of my time there. But, I loved my loft in Montreal so much that I extended the lease and plan on renting it out to others for now. And hope to maybe move back in the future and visit when it is vacant.
My loft is a huge, classic Montreal loft located on Mont Royal Avenue West (Between St. Urbain and St. Laurent Blvd). This is an ideal location as it's a very safe neighborhood and close to many attractions yet it's very affordable.
The loft has an original, fantastic hard wood floor and a wall of 6 foot windows with curtains. The loft is a spacious (115 meter/ 1250 square foot) open space with high ceilings that is comfortable and fun to hang out in. The bed is on a large, slightly elevated stage area which helps to give a feeling of separation in the open space. Of course, the bathroom is a room. And there is a closet. It is fully furnished and has a king size bed and a big, comfortable L couch. (More people could sleep on foam mattresses and another couch). There are two desks.
It's a secure building with a locked main entrance with video surveillance. The loft is on the third floor at the back and there are only 3 other lofts on the floor.
My place is very affordable. I simply want to come close to covering my rent and am not trying to make additional profit at this time. (my rent is $1035 per month + utilities, high speed internet, cable tv and home phone). I calculated this to be $39.50 per night but I may rent my loft for less.
Interesting history of the building: this small loft building is referenced in "The Stills" song : Return to vega. (The Bancroft Building), describing the notorious loft parties of years past which poured out to the roof of the building. Nowadays the building has gone in the opposite direction and it's now a very quiet building and they even had to put no parties in the leases to stop it! But, you can see why, with the huge size of lofts and the traditional iron fire escape staircase running easily up to the roof (nowadays, the fire escape is set with an alarm and is inaccessible, unfortunately).
-Fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher and plenty of dishes, pots and pans and cooking utensils.
-high speed cable internet
-cable TV and landline phone
-washing machine. (hanging rack to dry)
-dvd player and a few dvd's (Francois Truffaut series included :) )
-some cooking supplies included (salt, pepper, sugar, cooking oil)
-There is a grocery store across the street and a gym beside the building
About the location: I believe the location is ideal. It is a very safe, affordable, good-looking residential neighbourhood (the streetview is incorrect; loft is on Mont Royal, not St. Laurent) yet still close or within easy reach of most everything you could want from urban Montreal. It is located on Mont Royal avenue between St. Laurent Boulevard and St. Urbain. Downtown and old Montreal is accessible with a 5 to 10 minute bus ride that runs down St. Urbain or Park St. regularly or by using the metro system. The closest metro stop is Mont Royal station which is a 10 minute walk east. Park Jeanne Mance is a 2 minute walk and "the Mountain" is a 7 minute walk west. Mcgill Campus is close, on the other side of the park. More than ample shopping, restaurants and bars are within short walking distance on St. Laurent, Mont Royal Avenue and St. Denis Street. There is a grocery store and bixi bicycle station across the street from the loft. There are bike lanes on many streets in the area (Rachel, Clark). There is a gym beside my building. Furthermore, Parking is free on side streets and you only have to move your car for snow clearing. (the same cannot be said for downtown)
The building and neighbours: It’s a secure building with a locked main entrance and video surveillance. I find it very quiet. The loft is on the back of the building. There are only 3 other lofts on each floor. They are mostly quiet, working young people. This loft is on the third floor. There is an elevator.
The walls between lofts are not amazingly soundproof. You cannot play loud music. You cannot have parties either, unfortunately. I have good relationships with my neighbours and the superintendant and I must maintain them. Having good experiences with renters allows me to continue to rent my loft out which is necessary for me until the end of the lease. Of course, hosting guests and dinner parties and similar things are fine, of course!
I have a well versed rental routine as I've rented on short term for a while on classified sites. My friend holds the key and lives near by.
I would ask that the guests clean the loft before leaving. As well, I would be interested in people who would be willing to clean the loft upon arrival, to your liking, if necessary; without me hiring another cleaner to check and clean it in between guests. It can be expensive and complicated to arrange for the cleaner when people move out very close to when new people move in. (This is considered in the price I set). Since, I'm expecting the previous guest to clean, hopefully the new guest won't need to.
Disclaimer: I have some belongings in the corner of the loft behind a sheet, the washing machine can only be used on small or medium cycle; not large, the dishwasher is not installed into a counter; it's just standing there as there was is no usual place for a dishwasher in a loft.
Keep in mind, you are renting my apartment. It is not a bnb or hotel.
(je parle francais, aussi)
Byron's apartment is one of the best you can find in Montreal. Very calm, well decorated (very charming and kind of romantic) and extremely well situated, you'll certainly have an amazing time in it. Metro station is at 7 minutes walking and the Parc is also very close. Byron is one of the most friendly host that you can find!!
Byron was very helpful in getting us settle in his cavernous full of character loft. It is so big, we have plenty of space to work, exercise and play. It is directly in front of a Provigo grocery where there are fresh produce everyday. For us, it is a boon to be able to go across the street and get the best fish, meat and veggies to cook our meals daily. One of Montreal institutional restaurant Beauty's is right at the corner, a few paces from the loft.
Byron always keep in touch to take care of our needs and we are grateful for that.
