The Space

Large, Sunny, Inviting Private Bedroom in Ditmas Park, Brooklyn
Private House-Private Room, Westminster Rd., Brooklyn 11218

Details:
Spacious private room on second floor of a free-standing house in the Victorian Flatbush neighborhood of Ditmas Park. Quiet residential street. Garden view. Comfy full-sized bed, premium cable, free wifi. Semi-private bath on first floor. This house was used as a set for the feature films “Definitely, Maybe” with Ryan Reynolds, “Solitary Man” with Michael Douglas and Danny DeVito, and the TV series “Damages” with Glenn Close. Considered one of the best-kept secrets in New York, Ditmas Park boasts suburban living in the Big Apple. Tree-lined streets, Victorian houses, front porches, not what is typically expected of the New York experience. Very accesible to public transportation, walking distance to Prospect Park, easy commute to Coney Island in one direction and Manhattan in the other. Our neighborhood provides the best of both worlds, however, because right down the block is a veritable restaurant row reflecting the diversity of the neighborhood with Japanese, Filipino, Mexican, Middle Eastern and Tibetan restaurants, among others.

Room can comfortably accomodate 2 adults, possibly one child but no infants or toddlers due to staircase.

    Siamo state molto soddisfatte .

  • Our host was exceptional helpful and pleasant. Perhaps because it is Brooklyn she was more prepared for tourists than any place we had been. She had maps, even umbrellas. The other area of exception was the manner and extent of thoughtfulness of foods and space for a quiet morning breakfast. All was as pictured and we were enamored with the neighborhood. The subway station is very convenient. We were glad we chose Brooklyn and Alice.

  • Alice and Stan were wonderful hosts. We felt extremely welcome and Alice explained much about New York. Stan shared some NZ stories which we welcomed quite much. The room was very nice and it is an easy commute to Manhattan, using the subway just around the corner (5 minutes). Although the primary purpose of our trip was work-related, these nice hosts and the nice room gave our stay a holiday touch.

  • A beautiful room to rest and write in. A lovely "host family" with such an inviting and elegant home, but privacy of room and bathroom. Generous breakfast provisions and guidebooks, plus clean dishes as if by magic! And all within an easy (and beautiful) walk either to the subway for just a few stops to Manhattan, or to a funky neighbourhood of eclectic restaurants and cafes, or a run/walk/sit in Prospect Park. It has everything! This was an incredible visit for me - made perfect by Alice and Stan's hospitality and charm. I will be booking early to secure my spot next time as they are understandably in demand.

  • Such a warm and hospitable family. We couldn't have felt more at home! It was a spacious and comfortable room with everything we needed and more. The neighbourhood was picturesque and gorgeous, and we fell in love with the house. My favourite stay in NYC by far. Thank you, Alice and Stan!

  • Alice was very friendly and helpful during our stay. She gave us great ideas of things to do in New York and made it easy for us! We even got to witness a movie set on the street! Good location and clean/comfortable room. If you are lucky enough cats might even allow you to pet them! I recommend this place for everyone.

  • My girlfriend and I had a wonderful experience staying at Alice's home. The room was beautiful, the bed was super comfy and we loved being cooled down by the ceiling fan. Alice was super friendly and helpful and she also provided us with cereal, milk and coffee and what I believe was home-squeezed orange juice, which was delicious . We would choose to stay with Alice again in the future and we look forward to it. Highly recommended!!!

  • This was our first airbnb trip and it couldn't be better. Alice and Stan were very kind and helpful, their place is lovely. The breakfast was more than enough and it was delicious. The house is located in a really quiet neighborhood, but has easy reach to the Manhattan subway. Our trip was amazing, and spent a great time in New York.

  • Alice and Stan were wonderful! The room was exactly as it is described: spacious, comfortable, private, clean, even sunny! The fridge was well stocked with food and drinks for breakfast. The house is located on a pretty street, not far from the Q train line leading straight into Manhattan, so transportation was never a problem. Alice was very helpful with directions, or with suggestions for train routes in and around town. They were both very welcoming and friendly hosts, very easy to talk to and quite attentive to our needs. We were sad to leave!

About
About us: Stan is a musician, music teacher, and producer. He has played with many bands on both coasts of the US, most notably the wildly popular rockabilly band, Gene Casey and the Lone Sharks. He came to the States from his native New Zealand with the acclaimed band “The Drongos.” He is now band leader of a new endeavor, “Stanley John Mitchell and His Band of Buddies.” We would like to offer any musicians coming to stay with us in Brooklyn the opportunity to record in his studio! Stanley would be happy to produce and provide rythmn section work on your original material. Rates will be discussed when interest is expressed. Alice (email hidden), having appeared in many films, tv shows and commercials. If you are coming to New York to audition for universities or conservatories, she would be delighted to answer any questions you might have about the industry. We love good food and wine, movies, theatre and music, (obviously!). We have two spectacular daughters, many good friends and neighbors and a love of our community. Our goal is to do more traveling, with Paris and Barcelona topping our European wish list, and to be able to visit Stan's homeland Down Under much more frequently than we do. Alice is a native New Yorker who loves this town madly and is always happy to share her knowledge of it.
