Entire floor of 1888 apartment building with original tile floors, ceramic vaulted ceilings & timber windows throughout. Balconies to all rooms. In heart of Raval, 4mins from Las Ramblas and La Boqueria. Carefully restored by architect owner as home.
In November 2014 we were featured on the international architecture and design blog- design trawler. To view the post and pictures type into your search engine " design trawler grand hotel barcelona".
We were lucky to find the apartment completely un- renovated with everything just as it was built in the c19th. Our mission was to keep the soul and retain as much as possible.
We have collected the furniture and objects from the shops and markets of Barcelona and the decor is constantly being added to- each piece with a story- we will write some of these out for you soon!
The whole apartment is for rent- 80sqm with two double bedrooms, bathroom and with over half given over to the kitchen, dining and living space.
Very light and airy, the apartment takes up the entire floor, with terraces to every room. The dining and living room looks south, a suntrap in the low mid winter sun but shaded in high summer- it's our favourite spot to forget the TV and look into the world in the large courtyard (think 'Rear Window').
Interaction with Guests
I rent the apartment when I am away, so unless we meet on my way in or out, you will meet one of my friends who will make sure you have all you need.
If you want to know or do something in particular, please call or email either before or during your stay.
Raval is our favourite barrio- right in the heart of the old city-Cuitat Vella- but still full of locals and independent shops, cafés, galleries, bars and restaurants as well as some of the main sites- Gaudi's Palau Guell, MACBA, the Liceu Opera House and of course the Boqueria market- where the neighbourhood still goes to shop (enter from the Raval side avoiding the tourist Rambla entrance).
We are always discovering new places, and want you to discover yours- but if you want a list of our current favourites just let me know!
The apartment is three minutes from the L3 Liceu metro stop on Las Ramblas, taking you in a couple of stops to the Sants railway station, Park Guell, Gracia and Paseo de Gracia- but you will walking to most places- beach, shopping, eating etc.
The bus from the airport- more frequent, faster and cheaper than the train- takes to Placa Catalunya in the centre- fifteen minutes walk down Las Ramblas or on tube stop- to our home.
Cycle hire is cheap and fun, with cycle lines everywhere.
Buses nip through the old city, connecting out to the beaches and new city.
Other Things to Note
The Flat is on the third floor.
This is our home and also that of our neighbours- please respect them just as you would at home- such as not playing music to disturb them or speaking loudly on the balconies at night.
If there are any problems with our apartment, please do not hesitate to call us.
Please don't forget to close to door behind you when you leave the building.
Francisco has been a great host, we loved his little map with many helpful suggestions, restaurants, bars he sent us beforehand. the apartment was clean and tidy. Its located in the heart of ravel, not to be recommended to people sensitive to noise. Everything was very uncomplicated. Thank you for the beautiful apartment.
Francisco's apartment was WONDERFUL. His place is the perfect combination of modern "quirkiness" and rustic charm. The space was more than enough room for the three of us. Beds were comfortable and the kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed to prepare snacks. Francisco even checked in with us mid-trip to make sure we had everything we needed. Javier was also super helpful.
The neighborhood is an absolute jewel of multiculturalism. Really close to Las Ramblas, supermarkets and an abundance of quaint cafes and places to eat and have a drink.
The next time we are in Barcelona we will stay here again for sure!
The apartment was incredibly stylish and our hosts were lovely...a truly lovely holiday.
This was a very stylish apartment in the centre of Barcelona. The shower was amazing, great amenities and the bed extremely comfortable. I would say that as it's central, just off las ramblas, it is very noisy outside on the street until early in the morning. This was the only downside, I would highly recommend people to stay here when visiting Barca.
Francisco was great and readily replied whenever necessary. The apartment is absolutely lovely, exactly like the photos. We fell in love! The only downside is that you have to climb a few flights of stairs. A bit annoying when you're coming in or leaving with suitcases, but otherwise a welcome exercise after eating the wonderful tapas the city has to offer.
The location is great, just a few steps from the Boqueria market and so many other wonderful sights. I completely recommend this apartment.
Thank you for your comments. We are delighted that you have enjoyed your stay , you have understood exactly what I have tried to bring in my home keeping and restoring the old character of the place.
Regarding the noise, as a historic building, we have had to apply and have recently received permission to add acoustic glazing to the outside. This will be installed shortly and should address this concern.
I hope to see you anytime soon!
Lovely apartment, ideal location, host was very accommodating as well. Thoroughly recommend
This apartment was great! The photos were true to life, and the place had a lot of charm. We loved the tile floors and Spanish ceilings. The beds were comfortable, bathroom modern and large and the furnishings were very fun. We especially loved all the natural light that the apartment had in front and back. I particularly liked to sit on the back porch at sunset and watch the whole backyard neighborhood come to life.
As other reviewers have mentioned, the street noise can be a little loud at night, but that's to be expected when you are so close to Las Rambla. Everything was in easy walking distance, and there are great bars and restaurants in either direction.
Though we didn't have a chance to meet Francisco, he checked in on us often to ensure we were comfortable and Javier was very friendly and accommodating the entire time.
I am Catalan and live between Barcelona and London, enjoying the best of both cities.
We are new to Airbnb, but I love the concept and wish this had been around earlier.
While I love London, my heart is still in Barcelona- where I keep returning, to remind myself what the sun feels like, the crazy passion of the people and late long nights of Raval.
