( please note you dont have to be an artist to live here. i have in the past all kind of people student..art director ... writer...traveler..etc...scientist..)
Become part of a multi artistic life in New York. The loft has been designed and inspired by the idea of Treehouses. The place is ideally for: Writers, filmmakers, artists, chefs, architects, photographers, volunteers and creative people.
Living here is not just “having a room in a shared loft.”
It’s about the whole thing.
Each roommate's own creative projects, the community, neighborhood and so on. The Treehouse factory Loft is a place where we can accelerate our work, ideas, projects and find peace and inspiration, while doing it. For those interested; I offer a photo studio with an infinite wall to shoot, and I also just opened the doors to an art space in the Bogart Building (both places is only 5 minutes from here).
We are located right off the Montrose or Morgan stop on the L-train which will take you to or from Manhattan (Union Square, 14th street, midtown) in only 15 minutes.
Our area; Bushwick/E. Williamsburg is very social and creative and you will eventually, as you get under the skin of New York City, feel the strong sense of community, openness and creative inspiration. The area is opulent on restaurants (we are 2 minutes from Roberta's), bars, shops, deli's, organic groceries/deli, cafees, coffee shops, vintage shops, streets sales, street food and much more. And if times you should long for trees and green; we have parks in walking distance, and when you get here, get a bike immediately; it's fine, easy and fast to get around. Bushwick has a good mix of people from all over the world each working in a variety of creative fields. Though i've lived here for some time I can truly look at the whole narrative objectively and happily say; it's just really cool and interesting. You will sense it.
The core of the community: I’m renting out small rooms in a 1400 sq feet renovated factory loft. It was empty and spacious when I moved in several years ago, but with great help from a great team, we built what has become the Treehouse Factory – a two floor loft with several rooms (no rooms are rectangular or square), shared bathroom, kitchen, living room and hallway.
The rooms are small, furnished and they are all designed and inspired by Treehouses, boats and alternative housing.
Very important to tell, we have a dog in the loft. His name is Brownie and he is half Labrador and half American Staff. He was a rescue dog and came and “knocked on the door” one day. We have taken good care of him since and we will continue to do so. We all take him for minimum one walk per day and make sure he is fed and happy. It has to be a plus for you to live with Brownie, not a minus.
The Treehouse is occasionally being used for commercial projects (movie scenes and photo shoots). When this happens once in a while, I do inform other roommates about it, and up until now it has never been a problem. But when it happens (once or twice every 3rd month) we will talk about it and figure something out so everybody is happy.
What else is there to say;
as an artist and filmmaker I usually work on periodic projects. I’m filming/working on a visual diary about the arts and creative scene in Bushwick. I share, run and work from the core of the 6 points in the manifesto of MAMA & The Treehouse Factory (an art movement I launched during Frieze), and finally, I’m naturally focusing on the new art space in the Bogart Building of which I will be curating shows; (solo & groups), throw events and happenings and also, give people the opportunity to share a cause they feel strong and passionate about. This is a way to motivate and encourage friends, acquaintances, roommates and others, to talk, inform and teach other people (an audience) about something they feel you would be glad to know.
I’m always looking for people to discuss and collaborate on projects and ideas with, and there are also usually things where we can use volunteers for different projects and set-ups. So, if you have free time on your hands and/or feel passionate about some of the stuff that I/we do, you can surely join in ☺
I could keep talking—but let’s stop it here ;) Feel welcome to write me and I would be happy if you could tell me a little about yourself, for how long you wish to reside and finally, what your doing in New York.
Have a nice day and I look forward to hearing from you.
