WHAT A WONDERFUL PLACE TO GET AWAY FROM IT ALL
April 29, 2013
"My husband and I stayed at Heart Winds House last month and absolutely fell in love with the place! The whole house is lovingly decorated by its hosts and makes you feel comfortable and right at home! It has a well equipped kitchen (even has an espresso machine!) and a beautiful breakfast nook! We especially enjoyed the wood burning stove in the cozy living room and loved our big king size bed in the Maple Room – never slept better!! Watch for the deer to come out of the woods to graze in the meadow at dusk and keep your eyes open, as you might even spot a bear or moose! There is a lot of nature around Heart Winds House and we wish we would have had more time to explore! Very quiet and relaxing! The perfect retreat from your day to day hustle and bustle! We’ll be back for sure!"

Interaction with Guests
We like to be on hand to greet you, help you get settled in and answer questions you may have about your accommodations, the house and the homestead! Then we will leave you to get settled in. We respect your privacy and want you to "feel at home" so please ask if you want or need anything! We are happy to answer questions about the area and all it has to offer or make recommendations for our favorite places and activities. However, we are a working homestead so there will be times when we are busy and will not be directly available, but we are always reachable, 24/7, by cell phone for our guests for any reason!
Vermont's Northeast Kingdom is a truly magical place and East Burke is right at the heart of it. While Heart Winds House is very private, it is only a 5 minute drive to the village where you will find restaurants, a couple of pubs, a Tiki bar (yes, a Tiki Bar!) and essentials such as a gasoline station and an ice cream store. Within a 15 minute drive you can be in the town of Lyndonville which has everything most towns have, plus Lyndon State College with special activities and events. This is an area full of opportunities for year round outdoor adventure and the Kingdom Trail, for biking, hiking or XC skiing go right through our property. Burke Mountain Resort, which offers extreme biking in the summer and alpine skiing in the winter, is a quick 10 minute drive. The homestead is situated in a lovely sunny meadow but surrounded on all sides by forest. There is a dairy farm, with fresh free range eggs, just down the road. You can simply hang out at the homestead for total peace and relaxation or you can be busy all day long with an endless variety of activities.
You will definitely need a car to get to the Kingdom, however, once you are here, you can get around the local area by bike in the summer if you are up for that. We are just hours by car from Montreal, 3 hours by car from Boston and 6 hours by car from New York.

Summer blossoms and sunny seating on the front porch. A great place to start the day — or to spend the day!
We felt like we were visiting family! Such a lovely couple who opened their home and 50 acres to us for relaxing and hiking. The local out back was perfect for dinner. We cannot recommend this beautiful experience in Vermont enough.
I had a wonderful stay with Dave and Francesca at their B&B. The property and room were as advertised, very clean, and extremely comfortable. The surroundings were relaxing and serene, and there is even access to walking trails, which made a great after-breakfast walk. As hosts, Dave and Francesca were friendly, attentive, and very nice with whom to chat. Breakfast each morning was prompt and absolutely delicious - don't skip it! I would definitely recommend a stay here for singles and couples visiting the Northeast Kingdom.
About the Host, Francesca & Dave
Francesca & Dave, Owners of Heart Winds House
Welcome! As a family, we designed and built our passive solar homestead, Heart Winds House, in Vermont on 50 special private acres using about 60% recycled materials — and we continue to modify and maintain the house and the property in keeping with our goals of a sustainable lifestyle. We are a "working homestead" and we harvest wood from our managed forest as well as a variety of produce from our gardens. We have been hosting guests from around the world via other rental sites and exchange programs for more than 15 years and thoroughly enjoy it. We have a great affection for Vermont and the Northeast Kingdom Region, which we feel is a hidden gem, and love to share that with others.
In addition to managing Heart Winds House, we both maintain part-time "outside" careers. Francesca is a mosaic artist and graphic designer at Studio Fresca and a part-time art instructor at Burke Mountain Academy. We do offer special packages and workshops for those interested in mosaics and other art forms, so if you'd like to include some art experiences in your visit, just ask! Dave works part-time in the aviation industry, likes to cook and loves to surf. He is the head Chef for Hearty's, a Vermont licensed catering and take-out food service. Hearty's does all the cooking for our guests. As a couple, we are into traveling, gardening, cooking, reading, upcycling, architecture, "boondocking", flea markets and alternative building, as well as cross-country skiing, nature walks and exploring new foods. We have been fortunate to travel in many countries and experience many cultures. We love where we live, but we also love to travel, meet new people and explore new places.
We are a quiet, considerate, clean, self-reliant couple — well traveled, adaptable and adventurous. Several years ago we took a year's sabbatical and traveled "around the world" staying with wonderful local hosts in nearly 30 countries with whom we connected via our sharing a common job title in the world-wide aviation industry. It was an absolutely fabulous and unforgettable experience and it has been our pleasure to reciprocate and host those people as guests in our own home. As both hosts and guests, we have found the "Home Stay" — as we call it — to be an enriching and enjoyable experience that makes our journeys across the land, and through life, more meaningful.
As hosts we provide a Home Stay experience in a private bedroom suite with a full private bath, use of living room, dining room, sunroom, mud room, decks, the entire 50 acre homestead property and 24 hr. access to the "refill" station for snacks and beverages. We are attentive to our guests needs, but we also have other business to take care of around the homestead so will provide you with the information you need and happily point you in the right direction so you can have your own adventures — or you can simply enjoy the peaceful privacy of the decks, nooks and special spots around the homestead.
As guests we're adaptable to our hosts' lifestyle, self-reliant and considerate. We're friendly, easy-going and get along well with a wide variety of people, but we also enjoy and value our private time.
Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions!
