Come enjoy some peace and quiet in this simple yet private, comfortable apartment located under the Oak trees of Johns Island. 20 minutes from Downtown Charleston, Folly Beach, and Kiawah.
Our space is rustic yet comfortable, bright and clean! The studio apartment is ideal for two tenants. Three can easily fit in this 500 square foot cabin if one person doesn't mind the couch or a blow-up mattress (provided).
Responsible guests have access to a fire pit.
Interaction with Guests
The guests won't see much of us unless they want to! The apartment is private. The shared yard is large.
I usually knock on the door at / or shortly after check-in but won't bother you unless need after that. (We sometimes need access to that area of the yard to get to our boat, etc.)
Our neighborhood is rural and full of beautiful oak trees! We have sometimes have some random bikes available for renters to use. Its a pretty road down the way.....
Some guests find our shack difficult to find!
Once you arrive at Cane Slash Road, we are the 8th driveway on the left. We are the first brick house on the street - and there are 2 brick piers at the end of the driveway.
Please pull down the driveway and around to the back of our house. You will then see a large metal workshop. At that point, drive on the grass around and directly behind the metal building to park next to the picnic table at the Sleepy Shack. Ample parking is provided.
Please drive cautiously! We have a 6 year old son and an elderly dog!
Other Things to Note
Our wifi in the apartment is spotty at best. If you don't link to a cloud, you can plug a laptop into the cable provided for internet access. If you stand closer to our main house you can access it as well.
We expect the house and property to be treated as you would your own home. We want you to feel comfortable in the space. No smoking in the apartment. (Please dispose of cigarette butts in a respectful and safe manner.)
Our cleaning fee includes washing the linens, emptying the garbage, and cleaning the apartment. It does not include washing of used dishes. Please make sure all dishes, glasses and utensils are cleaned and returned to their proper location prior to departure!
The Sleepy Shack was a lovely, convenient place to stay during our visit to the Charleston area. The pictures don't do justice to the tasteful palette of browns and creams, the artful placement of windows framing Spanish moss-laden live oak trees, and the extraordinarily comfortable bed. Cava was quick and responsive in her communication, and Billy gave us a warm welcome and wonderful suggestions of what to do in the area!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Sleepy Shack! It was a perfect place to stay while visiting Charleston and the surrounding area for a weekend. The space was unique and not hard to find even at night. We also felt really welcome despite arriving a bit late at night. We'll definitely be back!
The Sleepy Shack was the perfect place for our long weekend trip to Charleston. The shack was really nice inside and the bed was so comfy (which is a big deal to me). The bathroom is also a nice size. There is a fire pit out back which was really nice to enjoy on our last night. The owners, Cava and Billy, were very nice and kept in contact with us the whole time. They also have a nice dog who stopped by to sit with me by the fire for a little bit. A truly wonderful weekend, I would surely visit the Sleepy Shack again.
The Sleepy Shack is so cute and comfortable, and Cava was absolutely wonderful to work with. I only wish that I could have stayed longer. I very much recommend staying here if you're visiting the Charleston area for authentic Lowcountry atmosphere and hospitality!
Cava and family were AWESOME. She was there to greet us when we arrived and was totally flexible with us arriving later than we planned due to our flights. She showed us everything we needed and then left us for the rest of our time--we felt totally welcome and taken care of!
The space is fantastic--just the right amount of room for us and cozy. Very clean, all the basics were there, great outdoor space and firepit (which we didn't use, but wished we had had a chance to!). Directions for finding the cottage are clear and we loved staying a bit outside of downtown Charleston. We were able to explore the city and surrounding islands easily and had a quiet and warm space to go home to each night.
We rent a lot of AirBnBs all over the country and this was definitely one of our favorites! We'll be back for sure!!
Cava welcomed us as soon as we arrived at the Sleepy Shack & made us feel right at home - making sure we had everything we needed. She was a very gracious host. As said in all of the reviews before, the pictures do not do this beautiful little place justice. It is bigger than expected & so serene. The decor is unique, and the apartment is very well-furnished with everything you could need for a week away. We fell in love with Charleston, the Sleepy Shack, and the gorgeous area & would most certainly recommend it to friends as well as make the trip again ourselves.
Everything was perfect! Cava and her husband were very welcoming, the Sleepy Shack was exactly as described (actually, better!) and our stay was absolutely perfect! We will definitely be returning to this cozy little spot. The house was perfect, we had everything that we needed and more! It was exactly the experience that we expected. Thank you so much for everything!
My artist husband and young son love the Johns Island lifestyle! We love the open space the rural environment provides. We enjoy the outdoors, heading to the beach (20 minutes away) or hopping on our boat for a spin around the waterways.
We aren't all country though! We enjoy the culture, history and fine dining that Charleston offers. Only 15 minutes away!
