The Hideaway is a hilltop accommodation set amongst native bush on the Northern side of the Hokianga Harbour, evoking a sense of peace and closeness to nature. The self-contained Hideaway accommodation offers stunning panoramic scenery with harbour views to the south, and the wilderness of a remote hill station to the north.
Beautiful space for cooking and dinning area in the kitchen and the deck outside. There is a batroom with shower and toilet with a view.

The space
Offering a queen size bed and a fully equipped kitchen with a spacious verandah for dining and star gazing, this accommodation is ideal for a peaceful breakaway, with bushwalks right outside the door. Waking in the morning to the sound of native birdsong, it provides a sense of privacy and remoteness, while also being a gateway to many of the beauties of the wider Far North region.

The property is based on an Eco permaculture principals with an organic garden and Hundertwasser inspired tiling on the interior walls contributes to your sense of wellbeing. The accommodation is private and quiet - well suited for art, yoga and meditation.

The property hosts its own walking trails:

# 1 Puriri walking trail. The large Puriri approx 400 years old is a very important source for native birds and provides a constant year-round food supply.

# 2 The Ponga trail to the lagoon for a nature swim to cool off.

# 3 The loop trail to experience the diversity of the native bush of New Zealand. The silver fern ponga the only palm tree in New Zealand the Nikau, totora trees and the native birds.

Getting Here
Option #1
If you are driving North on State Highway1 from Auckland, turn left at Mangamuka and drive approximately 25kms to Kohukohu. In the village, take first road on the right after the pub and gallery (across the road from the shop). This is Rakautapu Road. The property is approximately 6kms along the road on the left at no. 627
Option #2
Coming from the Ferry Landing on the Kohukohu side of the harbour, turn left and drive approximately 5kms passing the Treehouse sign on the right and proceed uphill until you reach the top and then turn right into Paponga Road (gravel). Drive until you come to T- Intersection and veer right into Rakautapu Road. Go along for about 3kms until you see us on the righthandside, no. 627.
Option #3
Coming from Ahipara or Kaitaia, turn down the Awaroa-Kaitaia Road at the Wainui Junction (about 2-3kms from Ahipara. Drive 16kms and turn left at Herekino and proceed for 45 kms, through Broadwood, until you reach Kohukohu. Turn right up Rakautapu Road (just past the Pub and Gallery) and drive about 6kms until reach no.627 on the left.

Minutes drive to Kohukohu historical village (once the heart of the Kauri industry) with good coffee, good art galleries, a general store, pub and takeaway with a harbour atmosphere. Explore the colonial history of the village.

A quick, scenic vehicle ferry ride from Kohu Kohu takes you directly to another quaint seaside village. In Rawene you can view historic churches and local art, enjoy fish and chips or dine the at harbourside cafes. A short drive to Opononi (from Rawene) where you can swim at the beautiful sandy beach with crystal clear water, with views of large sand dunes. Hokianga Heads just past Opononi, with a coastal walk and a beautiful view point overlooking the entrance to the Hokianga Habour and sand dunes. The Waipoua Kauri Forest is only a short drive from Opononi, with various walks through native bush, including the short walk to see the giant Kauri Tree "Tane Mahuta". Cape Reinga is only a day trip away is the peak of the North Island, where the Pacific Ocean and the Tasman Sea collide.
