MARSASCALA is an ancient fishing village with its picturesque bay that lies to the south-east of Malta. In the holiday season it is buzzing with activity, much loved by locals and visitors alike. Its long U-shaped coastline and beach, its rocky promontories and its multicoloured fishing vessels give it lots of character. This is enhanced by a wide variety of modern leisure facilities, cinemas and diving centres.
Frequent Bus service to all parts of the island (throuugh Valletta) every 15 minutes, 30 seconds from the block.
Towels, sheets, hair dryer, etc. are all provided
The apt was very clean and comfortable with all amenities (good internet, handy washing machine), and a separate bedroom; all for a great price and great value. It's basic but it was perfect for my working vacation. Checking in was very easy and Albert was super nice and easy to plan and communicate with.
I really enjoyed Marsaskala, it's off the beaten path a bit, yet not even 20 minutes from the airport, and it's very soulful and serene, with a solid choice of restaurants along the coast just 5 minutes away, a good simple little breakfast place (Tiffany's), and long walks to be had with good Mediterranean air. My only complain was the hot water would run out a bit quick (being there in january), but I loved my stay there and plan on returning before long when I need another break from Northern Europe! Thank you!
It's a nice appartment, clean and tidy. Toilet was a bit leaking and the toaster wasn't working. In general it was ok. There is a main bus stop nearby and also the restaurants, which are serving almost everything (from breakfast to dinner). They also have Chinese (all you can eat) restaurant. We've been to the beach but only for a walk (we were sunbathing and swiming in Peter's Pool beach is sooo nice. It's good if you want to jump from the rocks, because it's not a sandy beach). Bus connections are good (buses runs till 10.30 pm. from Valetta, later you have night buses comming from St. Julian). We rent a car for 3 days, because buses are sometimes very slow because of the traffic. It took us 2 hours to get to Comino (Gozo) ferry on the north by bus.
Thank you for hosting us and making our stay in Malta so special!

A very nice and cozy apartment located in a quiet small town without tourists. There are lots of cafes and restaurants on the embankment near the house. Valletta is 30 minutes by bus, they go every 15 minutes. In apartment there is everything you need: air-conditioning, cable TV, fridge, oven, washing machine, wi-fi and so on but no microwave oven, unfortunately. We didn't see the host but he left us all the instructions, so we felt like we came in our own apartment.
Great location if you're looking for the real Malta. Far enough away from the centre of town to be peaceful yet close enough to walk down for dinner or drinks at one of the many bars and restaurants. We hired a car and drove around but there are bus stops only a minute in any direction. It's a very easy drive to The Three Cities area and we loved driving there, parking and catching the water taxi across to Valletta which saved any parking hassles. The apartment was the perfect size for my wife and I and my Mum joined us for a few days which was fine also. Wifi works perfectly as does everything else in the apartment. Excellent value for money and we would certainly aim to stay here again next time we visit Malta. Thank you for allowing us to stay at your place Albert, we really had a great time and your and Dorianne's service was most appreciated.
Perfect sized little apartment, able to wash clothes, great Internet, easy check-in & check-out process, if u hire a car there's parking close and it makes it easy to get around. Real close to shops! Great value for money
Unfortunately the host of the flat did not welcome us when we arrived in the flat, everything was done by email with absolutly no human contact ( even when we left). I would expect´more for airbnb host !
Except that, the flat was ok but again i deplore that there was very few things in the flat: coffe and sugar for just 1 day, no salt, one paper toilette for few days, wifi working once in a while ... We had to buy everything for our staying.
The city is nice and very close to the appartement.
The Apartment is perfect for two and has everything you may need (including washing mashine). Marsaskala is an idyllic fisher-village with few tourists. Alberts sister Dorianne picked us up from the airport and was always avaible. From Marsaskala you can reach most other places of malta via Valletta by bus, which can take a while. Next time we would rent a car. The beach in Marsaskala is a stone-beach, but not to crowded.
About the host:
Really positive. Accurate and quick response on emails, very helpful, very friendly. Absolutely recommended.
About the apartment:
Looks fine. Was clean and tidy on arrival. Could be more cosy with some nicer lights (the warmest light was provided by the built-in bulbs of the hood in the kitchen).
The only heater is situated in the kitchen, and works with a big gas tank on the backside of the heater. We found that pretty scary, but also learned that this is quite common for Malta.
Bed is okay - not 'great', just 'okay'.
About the location:
For a next trip to Malta, we won't choose Marsaskala again. We learned that the bus connections to Marsaskala are pretty bad. For almost everything we planned to do, we needed to take a bus to the airport or to the capital first, causing an everyday delay of 35 to 50 minutes. The host recommends a rental car, and after this week we know why.
Next time, we'll search for a location near Valletta. Not because of the city, but just because of the bus connections.
Marsaskala itself was fun though, with some nice bars at the bay.
- clean & tidy
- Could be cosier
The apartment was just perfect for our needs and the owners were incredibly helpful and responsive. Dorianne, Albert's sister, picked us up from the airport and drove us to the apartment (with a brief tour of Marsaskala included on the way). The apartment we stayed in was relatively small and fairly basic, but included more than enough space for two people and all necessary amenities including a washing machine, little dining table, eating-ware (plates, bowls, glasses etc.), TV and fold-out couch. It was hardly a 5 minute walk from the water and plenty of restaurants, bars, and convenience stores. In addition, the bus stop was just outside the apartment (though we often made the 5+ minute walk to the bus station/main terminal in Marsaskala).
Marsaskala itself was also a great place to stay. Wonderfully located with good public transportation, but a bit more serene and less touristy than some of the other cities we visited.
