This is the real Bali. The Villa is located on the edge of a traditional village; guests are welcome to observe the frequent religious festivals and events and tour through the 1000 year old Pura Gunung Kawi temple.Everything is extremely safe and the locals are friendly. Local shops are within walking distance. The perfect place to both relax, as well as undertake day trips from this central Bali location. At 600 meters above sea level there is no need for air conditioning, and no mosquitos!
We can arrange airport pickups or pickups from hotels in South Bali. Hire cars are available at around $24 a day, plus a driver $15 per day. Fuel is around 70c a litre. There is a motor scooter available for guests at the villa and additional scooters can be hired for $5 a day. It is very safe exploring the local padi fields and villages with little traffic.
Guests are expected to relax and totally enjoy themselves. The Guide Book which will be emailed to you will include all details such as recommended medical and dental facilities, good places to eat etc. The villa is located in the centre of Bali and is perfect for day trips.
Perhaps the only request is that we ask guests to respect the local customs and traditions - this is actually very easy to do. You will also find the village life in Bali starts quite early (6.30am) and finishes early - we tend to be asleep by 10.00pm and make the most of the beautiful mornings.
After a very long journey, we arrived at night to Sebatu. We were greeted at the gate by Annie (Nury's sister and her husband- in his traditional Bali attire) - what a lovely surprise for all of us. Our surprises did not stop there, what an absolutely gorgeous place!!
We were shown around the entire property. The rooms were beautiful, the outdoor bathrooms in the 2 rooms nearest the pool, were a huge hit for the entire family... once settled, we enjoyed a drink in the Bali hut by the pool, to the sounds of nature all around - how surreal it all felt!!! Some traditional Bali music playing softly in the valley somewhere also. 'Too good to be true' was mentioned more than once on the first night!
The service we were given was second to none - to try to describe it best, would be "non intrusive, but ever present".
We enjoyed a massage by the pool.
We were taken to Warong Sebatu restaurant (by our driver Degus) - what a gem of a place! The prices were amazingly cheap, topped only by the flavours in the food - Nasi Goreng a must, at around $2Aus. We ended up returning to this place everyday, for either lunch or dinner!
Driving around with Degus each day, being taken to all of the tourist destinations we requested. The surrounds of Sebatu and Ubud are a must for every Bali visitor. To experience the friendliness and warmth of the villagers will stay with all of us forever.
What a pleasure/privilege to stay here! Thank you so much for having us...
Tony, Audrey and Family.
We love, love, loved staying at this villa in Sebatu. Nury was very quick with responding via email and sent us the must read 'guide book' for the villa, which is really a set of very charming joglos set in the serene sawah. The property is more beautiful than the pictures show, Ruli is a perfect gentleman caretaker and Degus was the best driver who knew all the shortcuts. If you want a quiet, laid-back vacation set in a beautiful setting, stay here. Ubud is a great place to visit for a day, but way too busy and hectic. We (family with two kids and my mom) went for walks in the Sebatu area, tried some of the local restaurants and warungs (all very delicious) and used Degus services to visit the Tegalalang rice terraces, the elephant sanctuary, and a fun bike ride down the flanks of the volcano. The afternoons were for enjoying the garden and swimming pool with the evenings spent on the pondok looking for fireflies. Ruli provided fishing poles for my son to fish in the pond. Thank you! The use of the moped was also just perfect for a quick spin into town for the twice weekly market or to the local warung for dinner. I wish we could have stayed longer than our 4 nights. Nury has created quite the retreat here with her staff of expert caretaker and driver.
The Sebatu Villas were simply delightful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and were made to feel very welcome by Rully. Nury provided us with a helpful guide that we used daily to plan our adventures. Degus was a fantastic (fast) driver, who provided us with many laughs and a warm smile. We had the pleasure of meeting Nury's sister and her family, which was lovely and added to the welcoming feeling. The Villas are clean, simple and all that anyone needs. The outside shower and toilet provided a unique experience. Sebatu is a quiet village which provided a welcome relief from the hustle and bustle of Ubud. Walking through the village provided wonderful insight into the Balinese lifestyle. Thank you Nury for sharing a beautiful area of Bali with us and helping in creating some magical memories for my family.
I had a great time at the Joglo villa. We stayed there for 8 nights and really enjoyed the house and the hospitality of Ruly (the concierge) who lives there. Pros: you will have the whole property for yourself so you don't have to share the pool with anyone else. The wooden house is also very well built for this climate so you don't need aircon. The garden is beautiful and the kindness of Ruly was truly touching. Cons: it's a bit out of the way but a local driver from the village is available for pick ups and offer great prices, Nuri (the owner) doesn't live in the property but it's very well managed by Ruly the concierge. Also the outdoor furniture is not in great conditions but that didn't stop us from enjoying the pool which is very clean and a good size. I had a great time and would come back
The rooms are comfortable and the space is a remarkable place to experience all that is beautiful in Bali. Sebatu is peaceful and everything you need is in walking distance. Highly recommend this place!
