About This Listing
You will feel welcomed to New York City by staying a few steps away from Central Park, in an authentic pre-war building and recently renovated apartment that is modestly yet tastefully decorated.
Wi-fi internet connection is included as is (partial) use of the kitchen (see house rules for additional details; basically, occasionally warming up or consuming food in the apt is ok, but preparing and cooking it are not). There are laundry facilities in the building and an elevator to take you up to the 5th floor, where this sunny apartment is located. The room features a comfy queen-size bed, storage; towels and bedding are provided during your stay. There is one bathroom in the apartment (shared with the host) and a TV / DVD player in the living room.
Interaction with Guests
Your host knows and loves his city and will be happy to help you find your way around!
My place is also located a few minutes from Columbia University, top restaurants (including uber-trendy spots, such as Red Rooster, Maison Harlem, and tantalizing soul food eateries, like Melba's and Spoonbread), St-John the Divine Cathedral, the famous Apollo Theater, Grant's Tomb, the Cloisters, Lincoln Center, the Museum of Natural History and many of uptown's other landmarks. The Lasker swimming pool is also just a few quick steps away (in Central Park) and in the winter is converted into an ice skating rink.
A few steps from the B/C line, a few more minutes to the express 2/3, as well as the 1 and 6 trains. Taxis are easy to find at any time of the day on my street. You can be just about anywhere in the city easily and in a matter of minutes!
Other Things to Note
Host is GLBT-friendly. Je vous souhaite la bienvenue; sejam bem-vindos; bienvenidos a mi casa!
Note: Quoted rate is valid for one or two guests; an additional person may be accommodated for 35$ more per day (pls consult host). Weekly / monthly rates to be discussed. An additional 10$ late check-in fee will be charged for arrivals between midnight and 7am.
Cleanliness and order are expected (personal property should not be left in common areas of the apt); no excessive noise between midnight and 10am. Access to kitchen is limited to microwave oven, toaster, kettle / coffee-maker, one area in refrigerator, dish ware and cutlery. Dirty dishes and food are not to be left out. Bedding and towels are cleaned at the end of your stay or once / week if your stay exceeds seven days. The question of guests receiving visitors in the apt must be discussed with the host. Thank you!
we had a great stay in Jean-Claude's place. he was very welcoming and helped us a lot getting located around the city. clean, comfy apartment easily accessible thru public transportation. totally recommend!
My adult daughter and I stayed for 2 nights. The place is just as you see in the photos, small but cozy and charming. It is an old apartment but he keeps it clean. When we were staying, the windows were being replaced to nice new ones. That should shut down the outside sounds, like a lots of birds singing in the early morning, really well, anyway, this apartment is not facing the park, so our room was so much quieter than a hotel in the Times Square area.
The location was super. Central Park is just across the street for early morning walk or run. The subway station is less than one minute walk. We were out late but feel pretty safe walking back to apartment. There are so many chic restaurants near by for breakfast, lunch or dinner. My favorite are the Ethiopian food, Zoma for dinner, and Crepes On Columbus for breakfast.
Last but not least, our host was as charming as the place. He was super helpful and sweet. And he is a great conversationist with an interesting job. I'd love to chat with him if we had more time.
Thank you, Jean-Claude, for making our short stay in Big Apple such a memorable one.
