Great Hosts, beautiful location, and fruit trees on a lovely property. Jim and Terry were accommodating, and maintain a nicely decorated cottage. Just be prepared for a steep grade into the property and then you will be surprised at all the lovely views. The City of Refuge is a must see and the 1871 trail in the Park is both beautiful and historic. Would recommend this BnB !

Didn't get the opportunity to meet up with Jim while I was there, but the place was great! Super convenient to awesome snorkeling and beaches, and Jim provided really detailed notes on nearby activities. I'd definitely recommend the unit if you're looking for a laid back Big Island get-away!

Jim's Ohana unit is fabulous - lovely in every way. Great location, well appointed, lovely decor, and a well equipped kitchenette. There was fresh fruit waiting for me and Jim and Terry were very helpful in sharing local info and even came up with some super glue to fix my broken sunglasses! The apartment is separate from the house and private. A first class place to stay. Highly recommended.

We loved our stay at the Pineapple Patch cottage. The private and tasteful accommodations surrounded by lush greenery, birdsong, and panoramic views from the property spanning from Honaunau to Kealakekua Bay helped to make a relaxing, inviting home-base. The well-appointed cottage is tucked into the hillside at the base of a Mango orchard, and fan palms, pineapple plants, and plumeria are all around the property. Jim is a generous and gracious host whose guidance helped us fit in visits to the Place of Refuge, Painted Church, the Greenwell Gardens - each within a short drive - as well as more distant spots. We hope to come back soon!

I don’t know if it was listening to the sound of the tropical wind blowing through the trees, or the scent of flowers all around, or the sight of the sun setting over Kealakekua Bay, but staying here was the most relaxing part of our recent Hawaiian adventure. Tucked off the main road, and down a pretty steep driveway, it's a nice quiet location. The host's directions were easy to follow and we had no trouble finding our way. The cottage itself is separate from the owner's house and was cozy and well appointed. It proved to be the perfect staging area for our exploration of the Big Island. We went snorkeling at the City of Refuge (a fascinating historical park), which is just down the road, and spent a day at nearby Ho‘Okena Beach, just sitting in the shade of some big trees and watching the surf roll in. Our host was a great resource for interesting things to see and do and local places to eat. Jim is also a wealth of information about Hawaiian culture and the people and art of the island. You end up doing a fair amount of driving on the Big Island, and Jim was helpful in guiding us to some beautiful back roads as we went poking around the western side of the island. The fact is there was way more to do in this corner of paradise than we had time to accomplish. We already have a list for our next visit, and we’ll definitely book this cottage for the return trip.

The cottage is immaculately clean and well decorated. The views out to the water are stunning and the landscaping is beautiful. This is an ideal location to use for sightseeing on the kona coast. Take Jim's advice about where to go. The beach he recommended was beautiful!

Paradise found! That's how I felt when arriving at Jim and Terry's gorgeous home near Captain Cook. The guest quarters are completely separate from the main house that the owners inhabit, which made me feel as though I had my own private bungalow in the midst of a tropical forest of palms and, yes, mango trees dripping with large luscious fruit! The bungalow itself is very spacious and is loaded with extras, including a kitchenette, fridge, microwave, coffeemaker and fresh ground 100% Kona coffee for your coffeemaker. Fresh linens were way above average and there's even a outside shower (in addition to the well appointed indoor one) should you want to go au naturel (quite privately) outdoors. I did and I loved it. Jim and Terry were both unbelievably gracious and very knowledgeable about the island and were happy to make connections on restaurants and the local dive shop. I also fell in love with their dog, aptly named Kona, while there. My only regret was not being able to stay longer.

My partner Terry and I had been visiting South Kona from our home in Southern California for 16 years. We finally broke down and bought our property on The Big Island of Hawai'i early in 2013. We have a 30-tree mango orchard on our one-acre lot which sits about 800' above Kealakekua Bay. We also own a lot very close to the property, and we are considering expanding the orchard.

We fell in love with South Kona and the expansive views of the coast and the sea - as well as the myriad of activities the area offers - ocean sports of all kinds, hiking, biking, running, etc.

I am retired and live on the property pretty much full time. Terry continues to run his own business and travels around the world. We have a dog named Kona (we didn't name her - she came to us with that moniker!) who loves to play with tug toys. If you visit, you'll see what we mean.

We are avid hikers, and I can steer you to some great spots near our property and around the island. I study Hawaiian and Hawaiian culture at our local Community College, and I am becoming well-versed in matters of Hawaiiana. I was a social worker, a therapist, a professor, a theatre director, and an actor.

We enjoy meeting new people and swapping tales of travels. We love sharing our island with others. Life is Good. Come visit!
