We loved staying at the Hummingbird house. It wasn't too far from the center. Or the opposite direction, you could walk to a big grocery store - Mega. Easy to walk or cab there. Also enjoyed Lupita who helped keep the house clean.

We recently enjoyed a three week stay at Sher and Gary's beautiful Hummimgbird House of Charm. Sher and Gary ensured that the house was ready for us and emailed soon after our arrival to make sure that all was well. Hummingbird House lived up to our expectations and more. Benjamin, the house manager, is very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. Hummingbird House comes equipped with all needed the amenities, kitchen supplies, and comfortable beds. A bonus was the beautiful artwork throughout the house. It's in a great location with a 30 minute walk to the Jardin as well as easy access to local buses or taxis. We had a great time during our first trip to San Miguel and hope to return for another stay at Sher and Gary's Hummingbird House of Charm.

Hummingbird House! We had a wonderful, cozy experience here. Sher was responsive and helpful from the moment we first contacted her. Their property manager was warm, helpful, and available. The house was as beautiful and comfortable as it looks in the photos - full of natural light, paintings, and folk art - and obviously loved. And in the gardens there are actually guess what - hummingbirds!

San Miguel de Allende is a wonderful place, and Sher & Gary's Hummingbird House makes San Miguel even more so. The house is picture perfect. It was a delight for us. It has a full kitchen with all the amenities. We were so happy that we had all the tools required to cook "chiles en nogada" on the second night that we were there (except for the raw ingredients, of course, which we bought at the central mercado) and "chiles verde" on the third night. The house also has a washer and dryer, which makes life a whole lot easier if you try to travel as light as we do. Moreover, Sher & Gary were delightful and attentive hosts from the very start. In addition, Benjamin, their house manager, was gracious and helpful at all times. He made certain that all of our essential needs were satisfied from the moment that we arrived. The house is about a 20 or 30 minute walk from downtown, or, if you prefer, a 10 minute taxi ride at a cost of about 35 Mexican pesos ($2.75, give or take, depending on the current exchange rate). Because Hummingbird House is outside the historical center of San Miguel, it is quiet and secure. There is also a nearby supermarket if you have any special dietary needs that the local mercados do not accommodate.

Response from Sher & Gary:
The feelings expressed here are mutual and we appreciate Les Bock's very nice review and hope we get to meet them in the future, at Hummingbird House, of course. Sher and Gary

We're originally from the SF Bay Area, California, and have lived in Portland, Oregon for thirty five years. We now live on the Oregon Coast each summer and in Mexico usually from October to April. I'm an artist/writer and my husband taught with the Portland Public schools. We have two daughters and four grandchildren. We are very adventuresome and love living in Mexico half the year, in San Miguel de Allende. We also love exchanging houses. See us on Home Exchange.
We love to read, kayak, hike and travel to new places. We also love nature and can't live without regular doses of it! Birding, watching wildlife are favorite past times. Our travel preferences are Europe especially in France where I used to live and work. We also love to travel to other beautiful areas in the US, like New Mexico, Utah's national parks, and the East coast in the fall and NY. I love to cook and we both love good food with a foreign twist.
