My family's stay in Sydney's beautiful home exceeded all of our expectations. It is a beautiful secluded retreat with stunning views throughout the home. If you are looking for somewhere to unwind and feel at peace then this is a tremendous place. Sydney was a wonderful host - very communicative and nothing was too much bother. We have 2 kids under 5 and they slept comfortably upstairs and really enjoyed exploring the property (especially feeding the wild chickens). If you are a family with young kids then I recommend it. Makawao is a lovely little town a very short drive away with lots of shopping and dining options. Would love to return.

Sweetest little cottage tucked away in the upcountry of Maui. The cottage is clean and had postcard views from every single window! Sydney was so kind and extremely easy to communicate with. She gave us a tour of her property and my children swam in a secluded natural pool deep in the river gulch. We toured nearly every corner of the island during our stay. The cottage sits in a location that makes it easy to get around the island. Sydney gave us great information on what beaches to swim at and towns with yummy restaurants. We couldn't have asked for a better week in Maui! If you're looking for a place away from the tourist areas this is it. Experience Maui like a local!

If you want all of your needs to be met, this home has been well thought out. The property itself is stunning and centrally located between Makawao and Haiku. Short trip to Paia and minutes to the beach. It is amazing and Sydney is an amazing host.

Prepare to be entranced by the scenic views, the layers of history and the nighttime chorus of frogs! Every rave we read ahead of time -- and we read them all -- rang true for us, and still we could not have imagined the craftsmanship and care that went into creating this very special place, nor the awe-inspiring mingling of nature and history around it. As a holiday getaway it was as well-appointed, well-stocked and convenient as any place we've been in. Much more than that, however, meeting Sydney and hearing some of her many stories was a true highlight of our visit. We very much hope we'll have the chance to visit again!

This cottage is absolutely phenomenal! Sydney was such an amazing host - providing such amenities as coffee and eggs from the chickens on the land as well as giving us a grand tour of the property with incredible detail of its history. Watching the sunrise and sunset from the upstairs lanai surpassed our expectations in spades. We adored our stay and hope to be back again soon!

Sydney User ProfileSydney is a superhost.

My favorite thing is sharing this beautiful valley with others. It started out 30 years ago as a refuse dump. For 150 years everyone dumped their garbage into the fresh-water stream from the lovely old stone bridge. My husband and I bought the property below the bridge along with the stream and all the garbage in it. For five years we hauled trash consisting of everything from old Model T Ford car frames to bags of dirty disposable diapers. The water was red, foamy and smelled terrible. But we finally got it clean and it's a beautiful stream with waterfalls, springs, caves and wildlife.

I love to build things out of found objects and re-purpose and re-use things meant for the dump. We live on a small island and need to be more sustainable. It's a lot easier to just buy what you need at Home Depot or Lowe's but it's a lot more satisfying to give something a new life with ingenuity and hard work.

I love coffee. I love growing it and I love drinking it. Also, coffee growers are a wonderful group of people. Our coffee growing community here on Maui and in Hawaii are like family. I also work as an advocate for small farmers here in Maui County.
