About this listing
Large, light studio with room to work. This is the largest room at the WalkUp. Shared (clean & fresh) bath down the hall, nice kitchen and large living room. Very private room with shared common areas.
We'd love to have you come & stay. Sheila
Studio A at the 16th Avenue Walk Ups is the largest room on the top floor of a charming 1908 building that was built as a travelers hotel. Comfortable, firm Queen bed with nice linens & blankets. Windows look out to Buckman field giving this room a nice airy feeling. Good closet space with extra storage in the attic if needed (just ask). A fully equipped, eat-in kitchen with a gas stove is shared by the other guests (Fan from China, Joanna from Taiwan and Mark, American). Plenty of space to store your food in the fridge & pantry. The living room has a wood burning fireplace, lots of windows and a little sitting space for computer work or letter writing. Small bathroom at end of hall that we keep nice and clean.
Lovely 2nd floor balcony to sit out and watch the bicycles go by on the tree lined urban bike path below. Good, consistent wifi. I think you'd be very happy to stay here at the WalkUps. Sheila
PLEASE NOTE: A CASH cleaning fee of $25. to be left at check out. Thank you so much!
There is bike storage in the sidewalk level basement, there's a key on a hook in your room. There is a washer & dryer to use for a small fee ($1.50 ea). Street parking available right out front. If you need extra storage just let me know as there is room in the attic or over at my house down the street if you are moving here.
Interaction with Guests
I would never knock on your door or bother you in anyway during your stay but I may run into you in the common areas as I come to spruce up things. If you do ever need me I'm just a phone call or text away and I live just down the street.
The WalkUps are in the Buckman neighborhood in Inner Southeast Portland. It's just minutes to walk to the river that leads downtown. Or if you feel a bit ambitious you can walk to the shops/bars/restaurants on SE 28th Ave or Hawthorne & Belmont Streets. This is an artistic neighborhood with lots of trees & bicycles and people buzzing. Coffee shops, wine bars, food carts, vintage stores, and indie movie houses. I think it's the best neighborhood in Portland.
Walk to coffee or wine or dinner or the movies. The #15 bus is just down on the corner of 16th & SE Morrison and it takes you over the bridge to downtown in minutes or the Northwest Portland if you just stay on it thru downtown.
Cabs are cheap here and great if it's raining. Radio cab is (phone number hidden), just call a bit ahead of pick up.
There's a new street car down on Stark and Grand Avenue (6 blocks) that will take you to the Oregon Convention Center and then to downtown, it's pretty nice. Bike commuting is also very good here, just be sure to bring your helmet and your lights as you can be ticketed if you have no lights.

I am so lucky to stay in such lovely place on my first visit to this country, a pleasant and safe neighborhood and friendly roommates. Sheila was a wonderful host and helped me with my first trip experience.
The place is very clean and cozy, and the location is great!!! close to the Portland downtown either you want to take a 25 mins walk to across the Morrison Bridge for the beautiful views or take a bus at the bus stop only 2 blocks away from the house.
I had a great time here and really makes me feel like home.
Best AirBnb ever. Very comfortable and cozy and bright. Sheila was wonderful. The house was wonderful. A great experience. Stay here you will be happy and well taken care of.
I had a wonderful experience at Sheila's. The room was just wide and cozy. Plus Sheila answered all questions and emails quite fast, and she was also really convenient. The neighbourhood is also great : many stores or little restaurant on Stark or Burnside. It's a 20 min bus ride from downtown or a 45 min walk. It's a bit quiet so if you're looking for the nightlife, maybe look at a location more downtown.
Where to begin.
This stay was an incredible one. Sheila is amazingly communicative and made herself more than available for any concerns or needs. During my stay she even left some fresh picked flowers from her garden at my door!
The studio is a decent size with its own sink for brushing your teeth. There is a communal shower that stayed clean throughout my whole stay. There is also a communal living room and kitchen available. I really liked the window in the room as well, easily opened and the breeze was welcomed. The neighborhood you are located in is very nice as well. Plenty of trees and cute houses around and everyone was really nice friendly.
I won't deny that floors are old and a bit creaky but the amazing thing was that I still hardly heard a peep. I think Sheila does a great job of setting a tone for the house. Be respectful and be quiet. All of the other tenants were very quiet and I hardly ever knew if there were other residents.
I can't say enough nice things about my stay here. If you're on the fence between this one and another I would have to encourage you to take the plunge and enjoy the walkups!
Sheila's Vintage Walk-ups are a great place to stay in Portland. The rooms are spacious and at least when I was staying there, there was no problem in sharing the bathroom and kitchen with the other guests. They are located near a lot of cool areas of Portland, though not super near many food stores. It's a better bet to eat out or stock up and bring your food to the WalkUps. The Streetcar is not far away and that will take you to all of central Portland for just a buck. Sheila was a gracious host and was willing to literally go the extra mile to make my stay there wonderful...
Sheila's walkups were the perfect home base while I was in Portland for a conference. The house was clean, warm, and comfortable, and the room was a great size - I was traveling alone but it could have easily accommodated two. Sheila was very sweet and left me a personalized note and fresh cut flowers, which I really appreciated! And the house is a quick walk or bike ride away from so many Portland gems. I definitely would stay here again!
We enjoyed our stay at the Walk-ups immensely. The accommodation is located in a cool neighbourhood which is close to downtown ( just a short bus trip ). There are a range of restaurants and bars within walking distance from the accommodation and the area has a nice neighbourhood feel about it. Our host Sheila was very attentive and made sure that we were comfortable and that our needs were met.
