Welcome! My home is a wonderful oceanfront traditional cottage set on a half-acre in a small fishing village with ocean views galore. It’s peaceful and quiet with a beach at each of the village and access to the strand below.
Imagine yourself waking up hearing and seeing the Atlantic Ocean from your bedroom which is suitable for a single person or a couple. For your comfort, there’s pure cotton bed linen and towels, and feather pillows and duvet. There’s a wardrobe, and a small chest of drawers.
This is a perfect place to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet and the ever changing ocean and sky.
Although beautifully remodeled to have some of the modern conveniences of the 21st century, the older part of the house still retains the charms of a seaside cottage of yesteryear with picture rails and fireplaces in the bedrooms.
The dining room/sun room with 20’ of windows gives you have a front row seat of the ocean with 180 degree views of the Cliffs of Moher, the Aran Islands and on a clear day the 12 Pins of Galway. It’s a lovely way to slow down and watch the ever changing landscape. In the summer, it’s also great to sit outside with a picnic and watch the sun setting in the west.
There‘s central heating which takes the chill off first thing in the morning or upon your return. There is also a peat burning Stanley stove which keeps the cottage warm and supplements the central heating.
There's a large, updated kitchen with a ceramic stove top and convection oven, washer/dryer and dishwasher. You’re welcome to use the kitchen or make tea or coffee.
This is a great base to explore unspoiled west Clare or to visit nearby counties Limerick, Kerry or Galway. Shannon Airport is just an hour away.
If you enjoy walking, hiking, surfing, playing golf or relaxing with a pint or a cup of tea while listening to Irish music, you’ve come to the right place.
You will have access to the shared dining room and sitting/reading room, kitchen, bathroom, garden and the strand below.
You can use the kitchen to cook. Help yourself to tea/coffee.
There’s wi-fi, off street parking as well as some ordinance maps, books and information about the local area.
There is a small fee for using the washer or dryer.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.
Interaction with Guests
I’d like to be here to welcome you to my home and to show you around.
Once, you've checked in, I will give you a set of keys and you’re welcome to come and go as you please.
Dependent on my schedule, I will either be around to have breakfast with you or I will have all the makings for your breakfast. There is fresh o.j. granola, organic porridge, muesli/granola, toast, fruit, organic yogurt, and a smorgasbord of cheeses and smoked fish along with omelets /omelettes with organic eggs plus a variety of fillings (cheese/mushroom/tomatoes/ham). I like to buy organic or free range food, whenever possible. I also have sourced locally free range sausages and bacon. You can have a traditional "full Irish" breakfast (egg /bacon/sausage/black and white pudding/tomatoes) for an additional small amount.
Let me know if you have any special dietary requirements.
If you have any questions, I’d be happy to answer them.
I like people and am happy to talk with you. This is your trip, vacation, holiday so the amount of interaction is up to you as I want you to feel comfortable and enjoy your stay.
It’s very tranquil and quiet in and around the house. The sky and ocean are ever changing; the light is incredible especially during the long summer evenings. Being in the village, you can walk to the village shop/post office for a latte or a paper in the morning. There’s also a church and a pub with music during the summer. The two beaches at each end of the village are within walking distance for a relaxing stroll and the strand below the house is great for exploring rock pools.
There’s a number of fabulous cliff walks and beaches nearby.
You can enjoy nearby majestic sites such as the Loop Head Peninsula, the Cliffs of Moher and the Burren.
The world-famous Willie Clancy week is just five minutes’ drive up the road in Miltown Malbay and there are loads of other music festivals all around.
There are two top 100 links golfs courses’ just 10 minutes away at Lahinch and Trump International, (formerly Doonbeg).
For those foodies among you, you can go on a forage tour, go to farmers’ markets and savour locally sourced food in many of the restaurants around.
If you want some pampering, there are excellent spas (Tatler Ireland’s Best Masseuse 2013 is just 10 minutes away.)
It’s all on your doorstep. Just let me know what you like and I can give you the inside scoop on my neighbourhood!
You will definitely need a car or some sort of transport to get around.
Other Things to Note
I'd suggest a two night minimum stay so that you have a chance to relax, slow down and soak up your stunning surroundings and breathe in some fresh sea air.
My home is open to one or two guests. For one guest, my policy is women only and a two night minimum.
No smoking, no pets. If you use the kitchen, please leave it as you found (website hidden) to be finished by 8:30 p.m. The bathroom and kitchen are all tile, so as I’ve learned you need to be careful with glass or ceramics. Let me know if anything breaks, isn't working or if you don’t know how to work something.
Check in time is 3 p.m. to about 8 p.m. (We can discuss what time.) Check out time is noon. Occasionally, I may not be available to greet you but will make arrangements for someone to meet and show you around.
Its was a wonderful stay. Linda was very nice and helpful! The room was clean and we felt very familar. The breakfast was delicious and typical irish :-) Looking forward to come back.
Thank you for your great review. I'm so glad you and Niko had a wonderful stay and enjoyed breakfast. You were easy to have as guests in my home.
I must admit I was happy for you when sunshine and blue skies greeted you as you set off the following morning, especially as it was late December!
It was a real pleasure to stay at Linda's cozy home. We were warmly welcomed and had our best breakfast there. Linda gave us helpful hints where to go and did her best to make us feel comfortable.
Linda was a wonderful host. The house has a very good location and the view is truly stunning. It is literally on the cliff of the ocean. The house is spacious and very neat and clean. Everything seems to be rather new. I would highly recommend this property.
Linda's cottage sits directly on the shoreline, with a direct view over the beach and facing due West and made viewing spectacular sunsets over the islands. With her outgoing personality and easy going manner, Linda made us feel welcome as soon as we walked through the door. The cottage is cosy, the room facing the ocean comfortable and plenty of hot water to take off the chill and a great breakfast to start of the day. The information she provided about the area gave us the opportunity to explore the fabulous Kilkee Cliffs and direct us onto our next adventures.
Hi Amanda and Eric,
I'm so sorry I didn't leave a review of you in time. I'd wanted to - so I'll use this response as a review.
Having Amanda and Eric stay epitomizes what I love about airbnb. For me, it's a wonderful opportunity to meet interesting people I'd never ordinarily meet, share my home and knowledge of the area so that they have a great vacation in Ireland.
Amanda and Eric are easy to have as guests, very pleasant, easy to get along with, quiet, polite but they are also a lot more. They are intelligent and adventurous people who are living life to the full, are open to new possibilities and I found them very positive and stimulating. So I want to thank you for coming to stay and for opening me to more possibilities in my own life.
We only spent one night with Linda but she went out of her way to make it a memorable and wonderful part of our trip. She makes the best omelettes I've had in Europe too.
I had a great time being hosted by Linda. First of all, the location of her home is incredible. You'd want to just sit there and look at the view. Linda was also extremely friendly and accommodating - she even made really good breakfast, which up to now I still crave for. It really feels like she would go beyond for her guests to feel comfortable. She's highly recommended. I had such a wonderful time getting to know her.
My entire experience with Linda was lovely. She was by far the best communicator I corresponded with on our trip. She kindly gave us detailed directions to her home and was flexible about our check in time.
Linda's cottage home is accurate the photos, very clean and homey. We were so lucky to see the most beautiful sunset over the ocean the night we arrived. Quilty is a super tiny town, very charming with one sole pub.
In the morning, Linda had prepared a beautiful spread of delicious food for us. She went out of her way to accommodate my dietary needs and made us a delicious Irish Breakfast!
The bedroom was cozy and private with a spectacular view of the ocean. We enjoyed our stay very much and wished we had booked more than one night! I really enjoyed talking to Linda and she gave us a great recommendation for a day hike nearby. Thank you Linda! We would love to stay again!
Having recently moved to the west coast of Clare after many years in the US, I’m delighted to share this beautiful spot with travellers coming to Ireland. This was my grandmother’s house and I visited every summer. (My parents were both Irish and I grew up in London.)
I love the natural beauty of the landscape here, and particularly living so close to the ocean. The ocean and sky are ever changing and quite phenomenal.
I also love travelling and meeting people from all over the world and learning about new cultures. So now that I’m living here, it seems like a very natural thing to invite travellers to stay and experience this special place too.
Like most people, I’m fairly eclectic. My background is in video and communications. I enjoy the Arts – a good movie, plays, art galleries, reading and writing. I also enjoy nature, walking, gardening, camping in US National Parks is great too. Other interests are popular culture, music and dancing. I love learning. I’m also a foodie; and enjoy a good meal, a good glass of wine as well as good company.
So if you’d like to unwind in a lovely place by the ocean that feels more like a home away from home with a more relaxed vibe and more space than a B&B or hotel, welcome!
