About this listing
Welcome! My home is a wonderful oceanfront traditional cottage set on a half-acre in a small fishing village with ocean views galore. It's peaceful and quiet with a beach at each of the village and access to the strand below.
Imagine yourself waking up hearing and seeing the Atlantic Ocean from your bedroom which is suitable for a single person or a couple. For your comfort, there’s pure cotton bed linen and towels, and feather pillows and duvet. There’s a wardrobe, and a small chest of drawers. (For solo guests, my policy is women only and a two night minimum.)
This is a perfect place to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet and the ever changing ocean and sky.
Although beautifully remodeled to have some of the modern conveniences of the 21st century, the older part of the house still retains the charms of a seaside cottage of yesteryear with picture rails and fireplaces in the bedrooms.
The dining room/sun room with 20’ of windows gives you have a front row seat of the ocean with 180 degree views of the Cliffs of Moher, the Aran Islands and on a clear day the 12 Pins of Galway. It’s a lovely way to slow down and watch the ever changing landscape. In the summer, it’s also great to sit outside with a picnic and watch the sun setting in the west.
There's a large, updated kitchen with a ceramic stove top and convection oven, washer/dryer and dishwasher. You’re welcome to use the kitchen or make tea or coffee.
Although there’s usually central heating to take the chill off first thing in the morning or upon your return, a collapsed wall by my outside boiler and oil tanker means I can’t turn on the central heating on at the moment (I should be able to by the end of November 2015). Instead I have an effective fan heater to keep your bedroom toasty as well as fan heaters to warm up the dining room and kitchen. There’s also underfloor heating in the bathroom. A peat burning Stanley stove can also supplement to keep the cottage warm.
This is a great base to explore unspoiled west Clare or to visit nearby counties Limerick, Kerry or Galway. Shannon Airport is just an hour away.
If you enjoy walking, hiking, surfing, playing golf or relaxing with a pint or a cup of tea while listening to Irish music, you’ve come to the right place.
You will have access to the shared dining room and sitting/reading room, kitchen, bathroom, garden and the strand below.
You can use the kitchen to cook. Help yourself to tea/coffee.
There’s wi-fi, off street parking as well as some ordinance maps, books and information about the local area.
There is a small fee for using the washer or dryer.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.

I like people and am happy to talk with you. This is your trip, vacation, holiday so the amount of interaction is up to you as I want you to feel comfortable and enjoy your stay.
It’s very tranquil and quiet in and around the house. The sky and ocean are ever changing; the light is incredible especially during the long summer evenings. Being in the village, you can walk to the village shop/post office for a latte or a paper in the morning. There’s also a church and a pub with music during the summer. The two beaches at each end of the village are within walking distance for a relaxing stroll and the strand below the house is great for exploring rock pools.
There’s a number of fabulous cliff walks and beaches nearby.
You can enjoy nearby majestic sites such as the Loop Head Peninsula, the Cliffs of Moher and the Burren.
The world-famous Willie Clancy week is just five minutes’ drive up the road in Miltown Malbay and there are loads of other music festivals all around.
There are two top 100 links golfs courses’ just 10 minutes away at Lahinch and Trump International, (formerly Doonbeg).
For those foodies among you, you can go on a forage tour, go to farmers’ markets and savour locally sourced food in many of the restaurants around.
If you want some pampering, there are excellent spas (Tatler Ireland’s Best Masseuse 2013 is just 10 minutes away.)
It’s all on your doorstep. Just let me know what you like and I can give you the inside scoop on my neighbourhood!

Other Things to Note
I'd suggest a two night minimum stay so that you have a chance to relax, slow down and soak up your stunning surroundings and breathe in some fresh sea air.
My home is open to one or two guests. For one guest, my policy is women only and a two night minimum.
No smoking, no pets. If you use the kitchen, please leave it as you found it and cooking to be finished by 8:30 p.m. The bathroom and kitchen are all tile, so as I’ve learned you need to be careful with glass or ceramics. Let me know if anything breaks, isn't working or if you don’t know how to work something.
Check in time is 3 p.m. to about 8 p.m. (We can discuss what time.) Check out time is noon. Occasionally, I may not be available to greet you but will make arrangements for someone to meet and show you around.
