Villa HighPalms is quiet, peaceful, and extremely private, located at the end of a closed road next to the rainforest, 5 minutes' walk to a beautiful beach and 10 minutes' walk to a waterfall. The villa is surrounded by rainforest hills that teem with birds and small wildlife. Bring your walking shoes and enjoy nature and animals in their natural habitat.

We absolutely loved our stay at the beach villa!! The view from the patio is a dramatic sea view and we saw so much wildlife from the porch! White face monkeys, howler monkeys, iguanas, many different tropical birds, and lizards. It was fabulous to just sit and watch the animals! The location has a fantastic view. While it's possible to walk to the beach, driving a car is a bit easier. There was also a cool waterfall just around the corner to walk to. Plenty of space in the house for four people. There was a security guard who walked the grounds and a front gate with a guard so we felt very secure. Our host answered all our questions and was very helpful with suggestions on places to eat. We would absolutely recommend this place to friends family and strangers!
My wife, daughter and I stayed at this wonderful property for a week in June. The view is fantastic and is definitely the selling point for this villa. Both the air-conditioning and WIFI worked great. Renting a 4X4 made getting up the hill to the property a breeze. The road from San Jose airport to Dominical is beautifully paved, but all the side roads in Dominical are dirt roads of varying quality, so opt for a 4X4 if renting a vehicle - it will make your driving stress free! The property manager, Alexandre was extremely friendly and replied to our SMS text messages promptly. Tip: You can purchase a Kolbi sim card for your GSM unlocked phone from their desk in the baggage claim area of San Jose airport for about $20 (2GB of data + calls/texts). Google Maps on our phone worked perfectly for navigation. Alexandre arranged 2 excursions for us: white water rafting on the beautiful Savegre River (excellent for experienced and beginner rafters) and horseback-riding to the Nauyaca Waterfalls (very impressive). Don't miss the waterfall right near the villa though. It's a great swimming hole to cool off after a morning activity. We also went zip-lining with El Santuario Canopy Adventure in Quepos, which we booked ourselves. All of the companies that provided our activities were excellent and their staff were very friendly and experienced. One night at the property we lost water, but it was a community wide outage and it was fixed by the time we woke up in the morning. We also lost power in a storm (bring flashlights!) but again, it was fixed promptly. The washer only washes with hot water, not warm or cold. The water at the property was sometimes brownish in color, but it didn't seem to damage our clothes. Security guards patrol the community at night and manned the gate during the day, so we never worried about leaving valuables at the villa. Cleaners came every other day and washed/changed our sheets, swept etc., which was an unexpected bonus. There are a lot of great restaurants in the area with pricing comparable to U.S. restaurants. The grocery store in Uvita is modern and has items you'd expect to find in the U.S. for a premium as well as reasonably priced local foods. We saw toucans and iguana at the property (as well as lots of other birds and lizards). We saw capuchin monkeys at the Hacienda Buru private reserve (5 min drive - $7 entry), and sloth, squirrel monkeys, howler monkeys, capuchin monkeys and raccoon at Manuel Antonio National Park (1 hour drive - $16 entry). The property owner, Mark, was very responsive and helpful when we were setting up the rental. Thanks Mark and Alex for a wonderful stay in Dominicalito!
We spent a week at Mark's villa and had an amazing time. The house exceeded our expectations and was a great place to call home during our stay in Dominical. There were only 2 of us, but the villa could easily accommodate 4 or 5. We felt safe within the gated community and evening security. We HIGHLY recommend renting a 4x4 while you're in domincal since some of the best restaurants and waterfall hikes are up dirt roads on the mountains. Big shout out to our friends at the Jolly Roger! Pura Vida!
I went here for a vacation with my girlfriend. The villa was as described and has a great location, a short 5 min drive to the town of Dominical. It was very private and the view was amazing.
Alex, the concierge, was friendly and helpful. He had some awesome recommendations for food around town. You can also reserve massages and a chef to come cook at your villa, although we did not use these services.
There were some minor issues with the water system (some faucets not working and not being able to drink the tap water) which we were told were temporary. And the beautiful design of the place is some times let down by random construction quality issues (for example, loose tiles). But overall, the accommodations are very comfortable (the bed is REALLY nice if you like firmer mattresses). The kitchen was fully stocked and had everything we needed. Good WiFi, good A/C.
I also really liked that there were no pictures of the host or clothes left in the house. I feel weird whenever I rent an Airbnb place that has these things. These place felt more like a hotel with some nice extras.
In summary, an awesome place to stay and I would not hesitate to recommend it or go back if my adventures ever take me back to the area.
The villa is in a small subdivision of villas and feels safe and secure. It is close enough to walk to the beach and a short drive from stores. It has an amazing view of the ocean and sunset. Our "concierge" Alexandre was warm and friendly. The hot water didn't work two of our four days there but the host sent us a bottle of wine and offered future discount on this rental to make up for it. Our travels most likely won't take us back to this exact spot, but it was a nice way to end our honeymoon. We really appreciated having our own kitchen and washer/dryer.
About the Host, Mark
My wife Elaine and I live and work around the world as international hoteliers. In 2005 we came to Costa Rica to work on a business project and came across a development overlooking the beach. We fell in love with the view and the natural environment and purchased this villa in 2006. Dominical has the best of the both worlds, the beaches and the rainforests. The locals are welcoming and almost everyone you meet will greet you or smile. It's not yet as developed as other more famous destinations in the north, so you can still get that 'wild west' feel around the place. We have been renting to tourists since 2012 and our 'Villa HighPalms ' has received many good reviews posted on other listing websites.
