The Space

Welcome to our home. You can’t choose a more perfect place in “sunny Nelson”. The house is new, contemporary in design, with magnificent views of the unique Boulder Banks, the Port of Nelson and the Port Hills, and across the Tasman Bay to Abel Tasman National Park and the Mt. Arthur ranges.
Situated on a cul-de-sac and tucked away off the street for quiet and privacy, this location is only a 2km walk into central Nelson. Nearby are the serene Miyazu Japanese Gardens, Nelson’s heritage Founder’s Park, and the coastal footpath along the Bay. The house is only a 15 minute drive from the Nelson airport, and a one and one half hour drive from the Picton Cook Strait ferry terminal.
This is our home and we are happy to share our extra bedroom and ensuite with travelers visiting our lovely region. The bedroom, located on the lower level, is large with queen size bed, ensuite, your separate entrance, and washer/dryer is available for your use. Large window doors open onto a covered deck off the main living area which you are welcome to use and enjoy the views. There is WIFI throughout the house.
Nelson’s Saturday Market is the “heart and soul” of this region. The Nelson region is teeming with a huge art community of potters, jewellers, glass artists, and clothing designers. Nelson is also noted for its many festivals. Depending upon the time of your stay, there could be Jazz and Blues or Chamber music festivals, busker festivals, wine and beer fests, and many arts and crafts festivals.
Nelson is a central point to reach many of the attractions of this Top of the South region. The Abel Tasman National Park is just an hour away by car, or there is a boat across the bay to reach it. The renowned wine countries of Nelson and Marlborough are easy day trips. To the south, the Nelson Lakes offers fine fishing, and the Kahurangi National Park fantastic tramping opportunities.
Please send me a brief personal profile (ie: number of people, ages, type of work you do) with your enquiry before you make a reservation. If you have an AirBNB profile set up, all the better.

Guest Access

Guests have private entry to come and go as they choose. Guests will have access to guest bedroom, ensuite, laundry area, and our spacious deck area on the main level.

Interaction with Guests

In most cases we will be here to greet you. If not, we will give you keycode for the lock box to retrieve the key to the house and greet you upon our return.
Since you will be sharing our house with us, there can be as much or as little interaction as you would like. Sorry, use of the kitchen for your personal meal preparation is NOT included.

Getting around

Bikes and helmits can be provided for your use. There is a bus service at the bottom the hill which can take you into town. An easy 25 minute walk, 2kms, also gets you there along a shared footpath.
There are several tour bus companies to take you to Abel Tasman Nat'l Park, Picton, and there are wine country tours by small bus/vans.

  • Nelson offers an enviable lifestyle, and staying at Karen & Henry's beautiful home allowed us to experience that lifestyle first hand!

Karen & Henry were incredibly helpful at every stage of the process. Before our trip, they answered questions promptly, and gave us useful suggestions about other places to include in our itinerary. Once we got here, everything was incredibly well organised for us. They are both foodies, so in addition to a wonderful chef's kitchen, they had left us tips on where to buy the best ingredients, as well as the best cafes and restaurants. We've had a lot of fun trying them all out!

The house is stunning, well-planned (by Karen & Henry themselves) and immaculate. No photo can reflect how glorious the view is from the open kitchen/dining/living area, with ceiling to floor windows taking in the views across Nelson Port over Tasman Bay to Abel Tasman. The terrace catches the afternoon and evening sun, and we've ended up spending lots of our time there.

I should add that we've been doing some work while here and the wifi has worked well. But we've also managed to explore the town and surrounding area too, courtesy of bikes and helmets left for our use in the garage. We have spent almost a month in Nelson now, with the majority of that time here at Karen & Henry's, and we have loved every minute of it. We can see why they are so attached to this idyllic place, and this lovely home in particular. It was a privilege to stay here - thank you both!

  • We had a lovely Christmas at Karen and Henry's place. Easy to get to, great view and comfy beds! Kitchen is well appointed and the knives were sharp! We had our meals on the deck which was great. Immaculate instructions and heaps of information is provided on what to see and do...we'll be back!

We are from Nelson New Zealand. Cycle touring is what we like to do when traveling. We enjoy traveling off the beaten track and we are happy to share our lovely home in Nelson with other travelers. We like nature, good food and wine, staying fit, and the arts; and after a good day of cycling, a comfortable place to relax and meet the people of the region is ideal.
