About this listing
Cute One-bedroom: 3 miles between both downtown Charleston & Sullivan's Island Beach. Walking distance to many stores & food... a porch, yard, & private parking. This is a place to feel grounded, at home, relax, meditate, enjoy the city & beach.
This is a sweet landing pad for your beach trip. .. Or visit to Charleston.... your own little space to feel welcome.
I'm an artist, yogi, lady... I open my home to guests who can appreciate it... you can prepare a simple meal, take a bath or meditate... My house is painted pretty colors, eclectic decor, clean ... There is no dishwasher, microwave or TV ... I have internet, a hot plate, toaster oven, and full size fridge ... there's bedding for 3, but it might feel crowded... its a great get away for 1-2 people...
I have just made a bunch of improvements including: a new - quiet - a/c ... another bedroom (no longer a studio) and real bed (queen/mattress) ! The living room has a twin size day bed and the fouton couch that folds out. Also an eating area.
This is a cement bungalow - duplex building. My space is one half of the building ... In a simple neighborhood, with a front & back lawn. You can drive up and park right next to my front door. There is a small step up to the little porch, so it's nice for someone who has limited mobility.
Interaction with Guests
I usually leave the key out for you - and a note on the fridge ... you can always reach me by text ...
You can walk behind the building to a bank, Starbucks, a yoga center, several great restauraunts, a cafe, a bar and a bike shop (Mikes Bikes across the street).
My neighbors are fine, people sometimes walk by the house on the way to the nearby restaurants in the evening ...
The beach is 3 miles down the road ... And parking at the beach is free.
Downtown Charleston is just 3-5 miles from my place in the opposite direction. It's feels like a town & country retreat.
I am right off the main drag, (Coleman Blvd) so it's super easy and fast to find my place and get to places by car.
I'm not sure about public transport but if there r busses, they go right by my place.
Other Things to Note
This is not a five star hotel ... But it's simple and clean, I like to have plants, yoga mats and helpful stuff around, you can use anything you find... I have wi-fi, but no tv. Bring ur laptop if u want to watch a movie... if u like simple living you will likely feel comforable here.
My place is older and quirky - things are always breaking - the toilet wobbles when you sit down, the sink creeks. If this bothers you, please don't bother to rent my place.
I need guests to help keep the dehumidifier or a/c on, so that the space stays moisture free. If you have common sense, this is not a problem.
I am not in town when I'm renting this out, so the only way i can know if something isn't working in my place is for someone to tell me ... so i need guests to communicate with me in a kind way. If you need a fancy place, please don't stay here.
Please communicate with me directly - first and foremost - before posting anything negative.
Also we don't have a washing machine on site - so please make the best use of the towels and linens - use only what you need - and hang towels up to dry so you can reuse them.
Some other obvious things: no smoking inside, no excessive alcohol or drugs, or parties.
No pets sorry.
kids are fine - just know I have lots of low level, older, electrical outlets.
The host left very clear instructions on the house and neighborhood. It's a great place-exactly as the host described. It's homey, quiet, clean, and safe. The neighborhood was nice and very near restaurants and shops. It's also very convenient to Charleston and the beaches. It was a great experience and hope to stay there again.
I would not recommend this to most. The pictures are inaccurate and the listing was dirty and moldy. To her credit, I think the host might have agreed witj Airbnb to remove the listing until she could address some issues. And, boy, are there issues. This is my first truly negative Airbnb review in four years but I feel I must share this information. Three beds, one coffee mug and three broken chairs (when one unexpectedly collapsed under me it sent my phone flying and the screen was damaged). But that was OK because the host helpfully suggested I go on over and get some things from Goodwill 'to make me happy'. A window unit air-conditioner held in only by the sash, and completely open to the outside (someone could simply push it in on the bed to enter the apartment). Mold in the louvres of both AC units, and one filter needing changing. Dust on all horizontal surfaces and thick on the blinds - I spent awhile cleaning when we got there (and my standards are far from high). Even with a small portable (71 sq.ft) air filter we brought from home, the air quality was wretched. I was too scared to even look inside the monster dehumidifier on the carpeted bathroom floor. I brought up my concerns about the place with the host and got the most hostile and bizarre reaction in all my felicitous time on Airbnb. I have been using this service since it began, in multiple countries and at multiple price levels, and I have always had pleasant interactions with hosts. But this host said I was "determined to be miserable" and shouldn't expect a hotel experience (this one was in regards to the dust). When I explained my main motivation was to let her know the cleaner/caretaker might need some pointers, she then suggested I speak with the cleaner myself... :/ Well, she was quite unkind for awhile. At 10pm she said we could leave for a full refund. We decided to put on our happy hats and try to make the best of it - that night was BRUTAL. When I expressed interest in her offer the next morning (explaining the night had been awful), she first said, yes, we could leave for a full refund but when I contacted Airbnb to start the process she went radio silent to me and Airbnb for awhile, and then reversed her offer by saying she would only refund our remaining nights if we left IMMEDIATELY (sigh...at 8am when we are trying to feed and clothe and play with our baby), but, sure, we left pronto. Adios loca. Then she sent me all these texts through the morning about how we had to leave or she would charge us another day. I kept repeating we had left, by text and Airbnb. By the way, if you end up communicating with her use the Airbnb messebger so it is documented. If you can...I asked her several times...
I guess everyone gets a bad guest once in a while… this was the guest from hell. I wonder if this person just needed to take her anger out on a stranger? Has never been to the tropics at sea level? Can’t turn on a dehumidifier? Or just wanted an excuse to get a free place? She arrived hostile and immediately began her angry ranting.
I offered a full refund – if she wanted to vacate – but instead she wanted to stay for free. Neither I nor Air B&B agreed with her … and she finally left, after paying for the day she was there… and still overstaying several hours longer than agreed.
She damaged my apartment: broke my chair, my window, my a/c switch. She left a mess, smeared lotion into my rug, and a load of her unflushed poop in my toilet (for real – how disgusting!). She complained that my clean bedding wasn’t brand new, and somehow my antique bedspread disappeared with her. And her accusations were simply false: no mold, my appliances are old but functional and maintained, my window with the ac - locks at the top ... it was put in by a professional ...
After text communication with me, she suddenly switched to airb&b messaging, without telling me – which I don’t get on my phone… And she blames me for not messaging her back.
I re-reviewed my entire listing and had three people go in after her to inspect and found nothing wrong except an undusted window/shelf, the items she broke or took… and her big mess. We could not wait to see her go.
I loved this little place! It was a great location, close to lots of cute little restaurants and shops, only 3 miles to the beach and just right for 2 (maybe 3) people. Almost everything in the house was just like the pictures. As the listing states, it's not a five star hotel... expect to find the place slightly "lived in". There were some problems with the lighting in the bathroom and kitchen but Lea was quick to respond to any issues we had. Wi-fi and all appliances worked great. We spent most of our time at the beach so it was nice to come back to a chilled house at the end of a hot day.
Perfect location between Charleston and IOP. Walking distance to Shem Creek restaurants. Lea was very easy to work with and available at all times if we had any questions. Beds were very comfortable!
Lea made us feel very welcome and was easy to coordinate with. The easy interaction, personal made me like this more than a hotel stay. The location is excellent if you want a close proximity to fun beaches, great food and downtown Charleston. The cottage is small but clean and cozy- excellent experience!
We had a great stay in Mt. Pleasant! The place is even cute in person and was just perfect for our vacation. The beach is only a few miles away and is clean and beautiful. We went to the bar Black Sheep across the street and they had live music and local beer. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to others!
Lea was great! Very hospitable and easy to work with. The apartment was in a great location and had all the amenities that we needed. The posting was true to actuality. The only down side was that the mattresses were not very comfortable at all. Aside from that, we would definitely stay there again.
