Loved this place! Omar looked after us beautifully and I couldn't be happier. Missing it, the dogs, the ducks and Playa immensely now.
Thank you so much
We stayed for 4 nights, and couldn't be happier with the choice of holiday location. It's the perfect option for staying if hostels and resorts aren't your thing. We got great advice on restaurants and activities as well as how to generally get around. I would definitely recommend staying here as the service and quality was great.
The reservation was canceled 11 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
Our second stay was short and sweet! We love this place and it's people. All is well at Shalala!
Cet endroit est très joli et l'équipe très accueillante.
Le coin est vivant et assez calme pour Playa Del Carmen. Mention spéciale pour les déjeuners succulents du restaurant Regina!
We really enjoyed our stay at Shala Hotel and were so impressed with our apartment, which was spacious, clean and felt as if we were staying in a magical tree house as our entrance was up a wooden staircase.
Shalala is an orginal hotel with a very rustic feel, a small haven in the middle of a busy resort.
The staff were more than friendly and made us feel very welcome and were so helpful in helping us chase up our lost luggage that was delayed in transit. They were also able to provide us with some good tips for parties.
The on site restaurant called Regina was a wonderful place to eat and the staff were also very friendly.
The location is perfect and feels like it is positioned in the most rustic, boutique area of Playa. There are some other great restaurants nearby - La Cueva Del Chango - perfect for breakfast and also La Piola - a great pizza restaurant. Also a meat grill stall run by a Dutch guy and an evening creperie stall run by a French guy, both delicious.
The beach is also a short walk away and for us we felt like this was the nicer end of the beach away from the big commercial hotels. It was very close to a nice beach club called Canibal Royale.
If you like to stay in a place that feels a little more authentic and are put off by big commercial hotels - Shalala Hotel is the place for you.
We did indeed return to Shalala as we couldn't think of a more perfect place to spend our last night in Mexico!
PS. I do recommend mosquito spray but Shalala do provide coils and plug in repellents!
It is a very cool and unique set up. The beach is in walking distance. I only stayed one night but if given the chance I would have stayed there longer.
Omar and Memo were great hosts! This spot is truly a hidden gem and the perfect relaxed retreat for those looking for a more rustic feel. The bungalow was everything we could have asked for and was maintained excellently throughout the trip. The restaurant Regina turned out to be our favorite part of the stay - probably the most authentic restaurant in all of playa del carmen - right there at your front door. Staying at the Shalala, it's important to know that it's a small operation - so if you want to book any trips or massages - give them ample time to arrange this for you (we tried to do some last minute stuff and that doesn't work out quite as well there). All in all, really genuine nice people who are running a super cool little oasis in busy playa. Thanks Omar and Memo!!
This is such a great space and in a great location as well, at one end of the popular 5th Avenue. The apartment has everything you need and has such lovely touches to it (pebbled shower floor, colourful basin, patio seating, sofa, etc). Besides the restaurant (Regina) on the property grounds, there are also restaurants and bars all around, and beach access is quick and easy.
Staff are very helpful and happy to give information about trips, locations etc. Love that there were 2 doggies and 3 ducks on the property as well!
Definitely my choice the next time I'm in Playa.
Guillaume was a great host and had great advice on things to do, see, and eat that were off the beaten path - including rental agencies to go through. The flat was a great space with a lot of privacy, except that the bathroom wasn't completely closed off from the bedroom. This could be an issue for some couples, but was not a problem for us. The balcony was a really great feature, too. The location is great because it is on the quieter, less touristy part of 5th avenue and we really enjoyed the jungle-like atmosphere. The attached restaurant Regina had great brunch and really friendly staff, too (definitely order the fresh juice and coffee). We would definitely stay here again when we return to Playa del Carmen.
