Very safe neighborhood (email hidden)ly and fun area of town. We are close to Griffith Park, Hollywood, Downtown LA, Dodger Stadium, Disney Hall and lots of other attractions. It's also a great central place to go to other places around the city.
We are pet and dander free out of consideration for future guests (we are allergic, too). We do not allow smoking anywhere on the property for the same reasons. If you have to have that cigarette or need to have your pets/animals around, this spot will not work for you. We like to be clear about this, as we don't like cigarette smoke.
PLEASE NOTE - There is only street parking available. The parking is free on our side of the street but there is street cleaning on Friday mornings from 10am to 12 noon - so you will need to move your car during that period.
No smoking of any kind on the property, no drugs, no pets - (we really mean it about the no smoking)
There is a kitchen but if you're not into cooking anyway...
Los Feliz/Silver Lake is a great neighborhood - there are wonderful movie theaters, restaurants and boutiques all walking distance. FOOD: Thai, Italian, Brazilian, Vietnamese, Armenian, Chinese, Japanese - all walking distance and most open late or 24 hours. Not to mention great pizza, burgers and bars! Plus, there is a wifi cafe right on the corner that has breakfasts and coffee and pastries.
Great public transportation in this area; you wouldn't need a car if you worked in Hollywood or Downtown LA. Close to Griffith Park, Hollywood, Disney Hall, Dodger Stadium and centrally located within Los Angeles.
This (email hidden)ly neighborhood so don't expect total peace and quiet but the neighbors are respectful. PLEASE NOTE: We are up a flight of 30 steps - if you have mobility issues, this may not be a good fit for you.
Getting here from the LAX Airport:
There is a bus called the Flyway that can take you to Union Station for $7US (don't worry - you won't need money - when you get to Union Station you can pay by credit card) then you can take the Metro Red Line for $1.50 each or take a taxi for about $15 (a taxi from the airport would cost about $55-66US).
You would go back to the airport the same way - though there is a bus that can take you to the Red Line.
There is a Disney Land bus in Downtown LA on 7th and Metro that you can take for less than $3 each way and Disney Hall (the big, shapely, silvery building) is also downtown on 1st Street and Hope - not too far away. You can get there by bus and a short walk in 30min. Since parking downtown can range from $5-$25 and walking from a parking structure takes a lot of time, public transportation is better and sometimes faster to Downtown LA and Hollywood, in my opinion.
There is also the DASH - the downtown area bus that costs 50 cents and goes all around downtown LA - from Chinatown to USC. There's lots to do there. And it's not too far from the house.
I'm a pretty much 'hands off' host - meaning, I greet at the beginning then I leave you alone. If needed, we're only a text away.
This is one of Los Angeles' great neighborhoods - lots of boutiques, hangouts, bars, eateries to fit every mood or need. There's a comic book store (Secret Headquarters), a vinyl record store that sometimes has in store bands (Vacation), a makeup store, a dress shop, an Army Surplus store - you name it, we got it. From fancy food trucks to fancier restaurants, this area of Los Feliz/Silver Lake is an amalgum of high/low experiences. We like it that way.
This is one of the rare areas of Los Angeles where public transit is pretty great. The 2 or 4 Metro bus will get you to Downtown LA or Hollywood (depending on the direction) in about 15-20 minutes. The 4 goes all the way to Santa Monica via Santa Monica Blvd. The 2 bus goes to UCLA.
There's also the Metro subway and the DASH.
This neighborhood has lots of street art and great murals. There's a great one by Shepard Fairey just a 5 block walk away. There's also great walking paths - look up Secret Stairs: A Walking Guide to the Historic Staircases of Los Angeles for the different paths.

Great place, great location, great hosts. They were able to accommodate me for the better part of a week at the very last minute, were helpful about coordinating checkin in and checking out times, and were friendly throughout. This detached guesthouse is up a hill, far back from the street, so remains private and pretty quiet. I would definitely stay with Jansen and Lisa again.
Very comfortable place to stay and convenient, this my second time to live here. Just only one thing if you have too heavy luggages, the stairs will bother you!
Very convenient place and a lovely host. The place is HUGE.
Good location and cleaning room.
Lisa is a very friendly and uncomplicated host. When we arrived at the apartment at the agreed point of time, the room was noch ready due to some construction work. Lisa was very sorry, she had tried to contact us before. When we came back after dinner, everything was prepared and the apartment was very clean and tidy.
As Lisa's construktion works (reorganizing the apartment) had not been finished yet, she not only gave us the room we had booked but the whole apartment with a living room and a full kitchen for the same price.
Parking was not a problem. If you do not have a car, it is just a ten minutes walk to Sunset, where you can take buses to downtown or to the coast.
The apartment ist quiet and cozy. The bathroom was clean and everything worked without any problem. Of course, the apartment will be much smaller after finishing the construction works, but still it will be a good deal because:
- it is quiet and clean,
- Lisa is a friendly and welcoming host,
- the apartment is located in a good area.
The reservation was canceled the day before arrival. This is an automated posting.
The bed was comfortable and the location is convenient. Lisa and Jansen were very quiet so I didn't even know if they were there until they actually emerged from their room in the morning. Lisa is very relaxed and so I felt at ease. When I arrived the room was quite hot but the A/C was not turned on. Lisa said she hardly ever uses it, then she left but didn't say where she was going in case I needed anything. When I couldn't get the wifi to work in my room, I went looking for her and just happened to see her down the hill in another unit, sitting by a window with an A/C unit which was running. To cool my room at night, I opened the window, but there were no screens, so a few bugs flew in, but not too many. The on-demand hot water heater produced showers that alternated from hot to cold over 1 minute cycles, regardless of the position of the knobs. Except for the comfortable bed, the overall experience felt like a glorified tree-house camping adventure, which actually was fun because Lisa and Jansen are such exceptional people. BTW, I was able to connect to the wifi in the living room, but not in my room. Also, the street parking was tight but I was able to find a spot each night (by moving the neighbors trash cans over on one occasion.) I noticed a deep scrape on my back bumper, which will cost several hundred dollars to paint, but to be fair, it could have been from my previous airbnb location the day before (also street parking.)
Jansen's place was great! I felt very comfortable there and the location is great! Close to everything!
Quiet, lovely, comfortable. Great location for coming and going to different parts of LA. Walking distance to great food.
Would definitely book again upon my next trip back to LA.
Room was great! Clean, spacious and with a comfortable bed.
The hosts, Lisa and Jansen were lovely. Thank you, you two!
