Outdoor enthusiasts will love the many hiking trails and waterfalls just a short drive away. A sanctuary for goats, animal lovers can visit with over 30 rescues during their stay. Art materials and yoga mats are provided to round out a perfect escape for you to unwind, rest, relax and heal.
The space
There's nothing with more rustic charm than an Aframe (at least we think so!) And we certainly pack in a lot of charm to this perfect 600 square foot chalet.
The Aframe is all yours - it is not a shared space. It has its own private entrance, and has a "transition room", which separates the Aframe from the main house.
This completely private guest wing has a living room with wood-burning stove, eat-in kitchen, and a loft with two full-sized beds. The bedroom comfortably sleeps four and a full sized pull out couch in the living room can sleep up to two more.
The loft beds are cozy, and you wake up with a spectacular view out the front window. (Please note that the loft is a semi-private sleeping space with beds on either end of same loft space, with curtain divider) Beds have one feather mattress topper and one foam mattress topper for extra comfort.
There are so many details to mention...the wood-burning stove, wraparound deck, original wide-plank wood floors, slate tilework in bathroom, and skylights in loft, kitchen and bathroom. There is also a playground just down the driveway that guests are free to use with younger kids.
The area is perfect for outdoor enthusiasts. Numerous countless hiking trails within minutes and Catskill Preserve trailheads just a short drive away. You can get to the infamous Blue Hole, among other local watering holes in the summer for a quick dip on a hot summer day. Also a short drive to the beautiful Mohonk and Minnewaska Preserve. You're a 10 minute drive into town for groceries, restaurants and local theater (Shadowland Theatre).
You are guaranteed to see a variety of other wildlife, such as deer, rabbits, chipmunks, hawks, eagles, owls, woodpeckers and the occasional bear. Don't get me started on the birds! So many to see and we have dozens and dozens of yellow finch and hummingbirds in the summer!
The wraparound deck with seasonal water views is great for lounging (during warmer months - we put furniture away in the winter) and outdoor meals. We love the area and we hope you do too!
If you are a fellow animal lover, the Aframe is part of the Frederick Goat Sanctuary. We have 40 (and counting) rescue goats (we'd love to tell you their stories - so please ask!) as well as dogs (also rescues). We would love to have you meet them, hang out, and give them treats if you'd like (treats are provided).
Weather and schedule permitting, ask us for an evening "Goat Happy Hour" where guests can BYOB and relax in hammocks and chairs surrounded by goats to chat about your day and get recommendations for things to do in the area. If we are able, we'd love to!
If you'd like to join us for one of our more formal experiences such as "Hugs and Hike", the "Adventure Hike" or "Art with Heart" - reservations are required in advance, unless you are flexible and can join us the day of when there are open spots.
If you wouldn't like to (it's OK - we get it. Goats aren't for everyone) they are on the far side of the property and very quiet, so they will not affect your stay.
We are 30 minutes from Holiday Mountain (skiing/snowboarding) and 55 minutes from Belleayre. Minnewaska and Mohonk are just 25 minutes away for exceptional hiking, and local trails to beautiful waterfalls are just ten minutes up the road. There are also many local swimming holes to explore in warmer weather and a beautiful natural stream on the back of the property.
We have a long list of local hikes, restaurants, experiences and attractions in a comprehensive binder we leave in the house and we are happy to share our local spots!
We really love being Airbnb hosts - we hope you'll come stay with us!
Guest access
Guests have parking right by house and access to house from sliding glass doors. The Aframe has a transition room that attaches to main house, which creates a buffer for privacy from the main house. Guests have full use of Aframe and wraparound deck and are welcome to stroll around the property to explore!
Other things to note
We have three rescue dogs (Remy, Bella and Timber) who may be a little vocal when you first arrive, but will love to greet you and make friends! They love coming to visit, and let's be honest, look for treats. Lol. If you enjoy the visits, wonderful! Please let us know if you let them in for a spell, as we might worry that they’re missing. If you don’t enjoy the visits, please let us know, and we will do our best to minimize any interactions that we can.
Guests are free to come visit the goats of Frederick Farm for some scratches, photos and to feed them some treats (just ask us for some pre-approved snacks!) We do ask that guests not enter the animal enclosures unless accompanied by one of the owners - so just reach out not us and let us know if you'd like to come down to meet them up close. We are more than happy to do so if we are available!
To join our more formal experiences such as "The Original Hugs and Hike with Rescued Goats", "Adventure Hike" and "Art with Heart" reservations are required, unless you are flexible and can join us the day of when groups have available space!
