Great location
95% of recent guests gave the location a 5-star rating.
Located on the Golden Circle route but far enough away to escape the crowds. The cabin sits high on a hill with sweeping views over the valley and lake far below from the spacious deck with a luxurious hot tub.

The cabin has two bedrooms plus a sleeping loft, with plenty of room for the whole family (up to 8 people). The beds in the two bedrooms can be arranged as either two single beds or a large double bed. The sleeping loft has a double bed and a double sofa bed.

The space
A log cabin high on a hill with sweeping views over the valley below from the living room, the spacious covered deck, or from the hot tub. The brand-new kitchen is complete with full-size refrigerator with freezer, new induction cooktop, oven, dishwasher, microwave, kettle, and Senseo coffee maker.

Where you’ll be

Grímsnes- og Grafningshreppur, Iceland

This is a place to get away from it all. There are some other cabins in the neighborhood, but it's a gated community with no full-time residents, just vacation homes, peace and quiet. Far down below, you can see a lake and river and flat-top mountains all around. Immerse yourself in the Icelandic nature.

If you don't feel like cooking, Hotel Grímsborgir is a short drive away at the bottom of the hill, and there's another restaurant/mini market about 10 minutes' drive. Selfoss is just about 15 minutes away, with restaurants, grocery stores, and a liquor store. My husband and I live in Eyrarbakki, about 15 minutes beyond Selfoss on the south coast, and it's home to one of the best restaurants in Iceland, Rauða Húsið.

I'm an American living in Iceland. Together with my husband Jóhann (who's Icelandic), we own and manage the local restaurant Rauða Húsið (The Red House) and Hafið Bláa (The Blue Sea). Our apartments are located in the old fish factory in the heart of Eyrarbakki, right on the seaside. This large building was abandoned for many years after the harbor closed and the fishing industry shut down. Piece by piece, we are turning it into apartments for guests. It's perhaps not your typical Airbnb, because the apartments are purpose-built as guest accommodation—but it's a tiny village and we would like to invite more visitors to come and stay without taking family homes off the market. A small part of the building has a 36-bed hostel, and that's where we will meet you with the keys. My husband and I are both avid travelers, having living in Thailand, Mexico, and Honduras before moving to Iceland. We love Iceland and our little village, and we're happy to share it with you! If you're looking for travel advice or a local perspective, don't hesitate to send me a message or ask when you get here. We manage our 15 apartments as a family business with 3 generations involved. We look forward to welcoming you.
