Seven of us have just returned from a stay at this beautiful home. We were welcomed by Brian's son on arrival and we were truly impressed with the house and location. The property is its own little Oasis and between us we could not have asked for more.
We are certain we shall return in the future.
Many thanks for the wonderful hospitality,
Brian and Eileen met us at their cottage at the agreed time and gave us the grand tour. They were kind enough to leave a well stocked pantry, clear instructions on how to use the house's facilities, plenty of firewood and turf, and most importantly a few cans of Guinness! Brian also gave us great recommendations for places to hear traditional Irish music in local pubs and the Coleman Centre. He even left us his guitar and bodhran when he found out we played music.
The house itself is pretty amazing - the original cottage is cozy and charming while the modern addition is spacious and light-filled; both sections are tastefully decorated with interesting art and photography, much of it related to music. With 2 full kitchens, abundant bathrooms and several living and sleeping spaces, it was perfect for our large group of 9 adults and 3 toddlers. Everything was well kept and clean, and the house was stocked with abundant linens and towels.
Out of 12 days in Ireland, the 4 days we spent in Sligo were the best by far. We would love to stay in Brian and Eileen's house again on our next trip to Ireland, and are looking forward to it!
From the moment we walked into your house we felt very comfortable. The combination of a modern area with the flavor of the traditional architecture is a perfect match. Everything was spotless and the welcome from the hosts a delight. Beautiful flowers, delicious desserts to regain strength form the trip and endless advice and materials to guide us more easily in the area. We were lucky also to enjoy Sligo's Music Festival, which was truly wonderful.
The house is perfectly located: far from the madding crowd, in the middle of the gorgeous Irish countryside, but very close access to Sligo and Donegal (the wild atlantic way).
Friendly people, idyllic setting, super comfortable house ... A real success!
Thank you for being so endearing!
We were greeted by Brian and Eileen at their lovely home, with fresh flowers, Guinness, and home baked tea bread and brown bread and butter!! A very warm welcome to Gurteen, and their wonderful house. If we had not been so tired after our flight, we would have loved to get to know them a bit better. They left a binder that had lots of information about places to visit in the area, and we made good use of it. There was turf to make a fire , and Brian even brought a bbq grill and left charcoal for us- as my husband likes to bbq.Very thoughtful hosts!
Brian was a gracious host and had all the essentials for us on arrival. The house was lovely and very suitable for our special family reunion. The spacious living room/dining room/ kitchen wiht its lovely stove and comfy sofas was relaxing and spacious enought for 7 adults and 2 children. We enjoyed our stay very much and would love to return someday!
We had a fabulous time at this lovely spacious Irish Cottage. It is very thoughtfully decorated and comfortable. A great combination of traditional Irish cottage and modern conveniences. Perfect for family get togethers! We had a warm welcome from our attentive host Brian. He gave us lots of information about the cottage and surrounding areas. The location is a typical rural Irish setting. It is very quiet and peaceful. While not in the heart of the holiday destinations of the area, it is perfect location for visiting northern Connaught. As natives of Mayo we found many hidden gems and surprises in the area and really enjoyed our stay. We will be back!
