Welcome to my beautiful and comfortable homestay. Soak in panoramic views of the Faxaflói bay from an eclectic and artsy environment. I rent out rooms in my home which is located above my art studio.
A serene setting with expansive vistas conducive to repose. The house is set on the end of a peninsula poetically named Saeunn - Sea, she who is loved. All views from the kitchen and living room are stunning. The interior is comfortable and elegant. The walls are adorned with artworks. Your room is furnished with a king size bed and accesses a private half-bath.
The full bath, living area abd kitchen are shared spaces. Feel at home to cook a meal in the kitchen. Linens and bedding are included and the kitchen is equipped with pots, pans and spices.
Interaction with Guests
Please let me know if you would like a tour of my art studio. If you have any questions I am usually in my studio painting or in the garden.
Borgarnes is a friendly and quaint town. Stroll along the picturesque coast. There are good grocery stores, an excellent bakery (Papa Joe's in The Secret Life of Walter Mitty), an organic market, very good restaurants (open until 9 pm) even one that serves a vegetarian buffet daily (11-15pm) and another that has homemade soup daily. It has basketball courts, jogging paths, and a pretty park. I appreciate that we're close to many caves and glaciers and day trips are easy. I like to drive the Snæfellsnes highway and hike the Snæfelsjokull glacier as adventurously described in the Jules Verne novel Journey to the Center of the Earth. Continue on anywhere in any direction and discover what locals refer to as the REAL Iceland.
Marvel pristine coastlines and visit quaint villages. Patient hikers may spot arctic foxes and falcons. Killer whales and dolphins can be spotted further up in the bay and are best seen with a tour. Coastal drives, fishing, geothermal hot pot hunting and hiking are great past times. During the fall, wintertime and springtime NORTHERN LIGHTS sweep through the skies.
The Saga Route is a historical literary travel route that passes through Borgarnes. Visit the artist Pall Husafell known for his stone and drift wood instruments.
Walking or biking through town is fun. Visiting coastal areas is best by car however there are regular buses to Stykkisholmur, Holmavik and Reykjavik. Hitchhiking is easy and common in Iceland.
Other Things to Note
Borgarnes is a perfect home base to travel around west Iceland.
My home has many rooms aside from the 2 rooms I host at Airbnb I also host work-away volunteers on occasion.
Upon arrival please park your car on the street in front of the house.
Most homes in Iceland have have a no shoes policy. It may be good to pack slippers or inside shoes. This is a non smoking house and garden.
Michelle's place was beautiful! Tastefully decorated with a stunning view, it was an amazing place to spend the night. We didn't get to meet Michelle, but Jack was very welcoming and nice to talk to. The place was extremely clean and comfortable, and Jack even offered us a bottle of wine as the toilet was undergoing renovation. Overall, a great experience! :)
What an incredible place! It was even better than I expected. My husband and I visited Borgarnes for the last day of our "honeymoon" vacation to Iceland. I will be honest I drove into Borgarnes with a disappointed mood because the weather was a lot worse than we had expected (typical Iceland, which I have learned to love and embrace now), but my mood completely turned around when I walked into Michelle's very welcoming, warm, cozy home. Even with the waves of snow storms coming in, the view was absolutely incredible and totally made the drive through the storm worth every minute. The bed was warm and comfortable, the living room was beautiful and spacious. Staying here on the last night of our trip truly was the cherry on top for all the highlights of our wonderful vacation. Thank you so much!!!!
Wonderful stay at the most beautiful home! The bed was cozy and the house was just as described. I would absolutely come back!
Driving up and staying in Michelle's home in Borgarnes was one of the many wonderful memories we had in Iceland. Loved Michelle's warmth and energy, within a few minutes I felt like I was visiting a friend.
As many guests mentioned, Michelle's place is welcoming and has an incredible view. I also really love the art work around the house -- ask them about the stories behind the pieces! The house is tidy, artsy, and comfortable. When we arrived in Iceland it was in the midst of a huge storm. I really appreciate Michelle's advice to rent a 4x4 instead of a lighter car that would have been blown off the road in that weather. Thank you so much for looking out for us.
The room is indeed lovely. It is at the front of the house and we have our own washroom so we don't feel too intrusive. The bed is very comfortable -- and I love the nice touch of lavender pouches under the pillows :)
Thank you so much for the wonderful stay!
Such a beautiful home, wonderful art with incredible views! Michelle was perfectly lovely, made us feel as if we were in our own home. We used her kitchen and wonderful array of spices to cook dinner, she made us coffee in the morning. My only regret is that we should've stayed another night!
An amazing location filled with original Art.
A friendly welcome and Michelle even offered to share her salmon dinner with us on arrival.
Thanks very much!
We had to switch our reservation from 2 nights to 1 and Michelle was very accommodating. The views from the house are amazing - we were cooped up during a storm, but we had a great time hanging out with other travelers. The bedroom itself was as described, and is in the front of the house, giving you a little more privacy. Michelle's art everywhere was refreshing and gives the place a very warm atmosphere. Our stay was short, but we'd stay again!

I'm an artist. I love cloudscapes, seascapes, shell fish and (website hidden), wine tasting, and coastal hikes. I'm learning the Tango and Icelandic. Both are challenging. I love to travel whether it be hiking, walking, biking, tuk tuks, rickshas, taxi's, limo's, canoes, boating, sailing, ballooning, cruising, or flying...but don't drive.
