Our stay at the Old Economy Inn was great! It was the perfect amount of room for my husband, daughter and me. The place itself is very charming. Although it is historic, the place is completely updated so that it is comfortable. The hosts are very helpful. Breakfast in the morning was wonderful. We tried most of the choices, and they were all delicious. There was plenty of coffee to choose from as well. The choice of books was also nice. I really enjoyed the crossword books. The location was nice. It was close enough to Pittsburgh to get there quickly, but far enough out that it was quiet during the evening. Overall, we had a wonderful stay.
The Old Economy Inn was just a lovely surprise, especially coming in as I did late Christmas night, tired and cold. Everything was clean and welcoming, and the little touches (like the miniature rose on the kitchen table!) were great. Coffee and juice in the fridge, a snug bed to fall into, delicious breakfasts, all made my stay very enjoyable. Deb and Jim were most gracious hosts, despite some communication problems on my end. Thank you!
Comfy beds, lots of room. Darling claw-foot iron bathtub, big puffy towels. Yummy breakfast. Debbie made us special lactose-free breakfast. We appreciate the dog- friendly policy. I rated photos a 4 instead of 5 because it's much more charming than photos and description seem to tell.
Thanks, Barbara. I'm glad the breakfast worked out for everyone. I'm always afraid of making the place look too good in photos, because I'd rather have guests find it to be better than they had hoped, than find the Inn disappointing in some way. We hope to see you again!
This is a fabulous characterful and comfortable apartment in a quiet area very convenient to Pittsburg airport, which worked well for me on a business trip. Everything is provided and there is a real feeling of independence in a lovely environment. Debra's breakfast muffins are highly recommended!
Debra was good about being in contact with me during the booking process. She was quick to reply with useful information. The house is incredibly cute! We had a comfortable night's stay and slept well. The street was quiet and calm. There's not much going on in the neighborhood, and it's a good 30 minute drive to Pittsburgh, but we didn't mind because we were purposely trying to stay away from city life. The only disappointment was that at the last minute Debra called to say that she was leaving town, so our breakfast was not as listed on the website. Otherwise, everything was just as you see online!
As I recall, Lindsay, I explained to you that my husband and son would be happy to make eggs and bacon for you, or you could have muffins. You chose the eggs and bacon, and then later texted to say you would eat breakfast out instead, letting my husband "off the hook". He and my son were perfectly capable of cooking for you, so I was quite comfortable leaving the breakfast to them. I'm sorry you didn't see it that way. If you felt set on a frittata, they would have gladly prepared one for you. But you chose to eat breakfast out. That was your choice.
We stayed in both Harmony and Friendship. We liked them both, Michelle preferred Harmony for the living room, I preferred Friendship for the overall feel and I liked being up on the second floor. The suites are as pictured, this is old world refurbished, with an honest early American feel, but everything worked well. The showers were great ! I never got to meet James but Debra was very nice and personable and we saw her every morning when she brought us breakfast, THe raspberry muffins were awesome ! (real raspberries,in homemade muffins) They returned our texts promptly and were very good hosts ! Thanks Debra and James for a lovely weekend !!!
I would give it two thumbs up !
I really enjoyed Debra and James apartment and the town in general. I needed peace and solitude, and it was lovely. I would go back in a heartbeat, and may need to since I left my cosmetics kit in the bathroom! I loved the renovation, the bed was comfy, the kitchen perfect, and the breakfast excellent. The town is not upscale or trendy or touristy, but quaint and lovely for walking. The bridge over the Ohio River is a nice walk. The hosts were very responsive as well.

I love the simple architecture of the Harmonist Society and did my best to restore the Inn in keeping with their style. If you treasure old houses, I really think you will love staying at the Inn. Make sure to visit the Old Economy Village, a state historical site, right down Church Street.
We have also restored another Harmonist home about six blocks away from the Inn. This other building, which is also in the Old Economy Village historical district, is the new home for our catering business, the Old Economy Cafe. The Cafe opened in October, 2010, and it's where we prepare your breakfast and--upon special request--other meals for delivery to the Inn. Ask us about dinner options during your stay!
