About this listing
A bright double room with comfy mattress in a quiet area just 2 minutes walk from the hustle and bustle of Cork's lovely city centre. Great garden, sweet little pets and a chilled-out atmosphere in a beautiful old house!
Please read details below!
Cosy double room with brand new king-size mattress in a quiet area just 2 minutes walk from the hustle and bustle of the city centre. The bedroom catches the morning sunlight, whilst the evening rays soak the large garden, in which we grow vegetables all year round; you are more than welcome to eat whatever you pick!
We don't smoke during the day in the house, though we sometimes smoke in the evening in the kitchen, which is on the ground floor and the guest room is on the third floor (but if you are strongly opposed to this, please let us know and we have no problem to go outside!).
We have two small dogs and one cat; the dogs (one Jack Russell and one Dachshund mix) are quiet (usually!), energetic and very friendly, whereas the cat is very talkative and bossy.
Everything Cork city has to offer is within walking distance of the house, and there is a friendly tourist office close by, though we would be delighted to share our knowledge of the city with you! There are plenty of leaflets about Cork's attractions and surroundings in the bedroom too. Walking distance to both bus and train stations (each 10 minutes walk), and a 20-minute bus journey to the airport.
100mb wi-fi connection - broadband
Towels, bed linen, shower gel, shampoo, etc. are provided
Shared shower-room (cleaned daily), and access to main house bathroom (as in pictures). This bathroom will be mainly yours, as other rooms have their own en-suites.
Check-in and check-out times are negotiable, depending on our working hours, but usually between 6 and 9pm would be good. Please give us a check-in time with a MAXIMUM error of one hour! Please arrange arrival times BEFORE you book and let us know well in advance if you wish to check-in outside of the 6-9pm window so we can arrange to accommodate you!
Large garden with garden furniture and a barbecue (feel free to use - coals are under the stairs!), perfect for romantic evenings or a few sociable drinks :)
Very central; close to bars, shops, restaurants, sights. Easy walking distance to all areas of Cork city.
On-street disc parking (tickets are available in local shops)
Large fridge in the basement where you can store yummy goodies
Kitchen strictly unavailable, unless by pre-arrangement!
Directions will be made available to anyone with a confirmed booking.
Please contact through AirBnB, NOT through private email; thanks!
NOTE: This room is available for longer stays too, please inquire if interested!
I love cooking, reading, relaxing with nice music, long walks and travelling. The house is beautiful, bright and spacious, and I have done my best to enhance its character and charm! Lots of original features, such as shutters on the windows, stained glass, wooden floors, high ceilings, etc. The kitchen is currently unavailable for personal use, though you can email beforehand and we may be able to accommodate you :)
There is a study room on the top floor which guests can use for chilling out, eating, reading in the cosy armchair or just admiring the view. The study room contains breakfast items and tea/coffee with a kettle for your use :)
Kitchen strictly unavailable, unless by pre-arrangement!
Really friendly area, lots of old men with dogs pottering around!
The house is situated just a 3-minute walk from the town centre; a 7-minute walk to Kent station (train station) and a 5-minute walk to Parnell Place bus station. The airport is about a 20-minute taxi ride (costs about 14euro).
For full directions, please see your "itinerary" once a reservation is confirmed.
PARKING: There is on-street disc parking for 8euro/day outside the house (discs available in local shops, eg. from the Spar on MacCurtain Street). Alternatively, there are plenty of car-parks very close to the house, also for 8euro/day (the easier option if you decide to leave your car for a few days and not have to worry about changing discs!)
Quiet after 11pm on weekdays please!
Help yourself to cereal, etc. in the study room.
Please TURN OFF the heating in your room when you are out.
If you would like to use the kitchen, please let us know in advance as we hang out there most of the time!
Please give us a check-in time with a maximum error of one hour, so we can organise ourselves! :)
Also - VERY important - Please close the front door PROPERLY when entering or leaving, as it opens on to the street and I would be worried about the cats escaping! (Not that any cat would leave their fine-dining hotel!)
To work the shower, pull the string in the bathroom! No need to wait, the hot water is instant.
Please turn off the heating in your room when you leave the house; as you will notice, it warms up very quickly so there is no need to leave it on all day/night.
I was only able to stay for one night, but can definitely say that Maite and Karin are just georgeous! They were so sympathetic and open-minded. I liked the house, the room, the garden and of course the lovely dogs and feel sorry, that I had to leave so early. Thanks for everything, Maite and Karin. Highly recommended!
Maite and Karin were excellent hosts. Very accommodating stayed up late to welcome me as my flight was a later arrival. Also excellent conversations and they provided some neat tips for things to see and do while in Cork. The room was great and cozy. Highly recommend them both as air no hosts.
We had a wonderful time staying at Maité's place! The location was terrific, and the house was charming, clean and had everything we needed! Maite was friendly, easy going, and accommodating!
Nice host in a close location to the main area of cork. Bed was nice shower was small. Maité was very nice and offered her garden veggies for us. The only negative was how noisey the house was, you could hear everything going on in the house.
Both Maité and her mom Karin are delightful and welcoming hosts who really care about their guests and it shows. The house is most conveniently located within walking distance of Cork's bustling city centre but also snuggly poised between St Patrick's Hill and Shandon in the north side of the city - so the weary traveller may enjoy some peace and quiet as well. The house in itself is chilled-out and alive with the company of friendly pets. As for the room, it is of the highest standards with a large double bed that's so comfortable it literally beckons you to stay gently tucked in its duvet. The icing on the cake is a lovely room at the top with tea-making facilities where you can have your breakfast while enjoying a view of the venerable Shandon steeple. Definitely one of the best places I've ever stayed at!

About the Host, Maité And Karin (Mother - Daughter Duo)
I am a 26-year old currently doing a Masters in International Public Policy and Diplomacy; I love gardening, sustainable living, animals (both dogs are rescues), learning, reading, travelling (especially walking and/or camping trips), cooking and enjoying barbecues in the garden during summer.
I love learning from others, and that is one of the things I like about hosting on AirBnB - hearing other experiences, stories, etc...makes me feel like I am travelling from the comfort of my own home!
