Interaction with guests

I live in the house also and can give advice on things to do and see on Inis Oirr.

The neighborhood

Inisheer (Inis Oírr) lies 8 kilometres off the coast of County Clare. It is an Island of sheer beauty and wandering along its shores it's easy to get the impression that you have the whole world to yourself.

Inisheer has probably been inhabited for 5,000 years but the earliest evidence of civilisation is at Cnoc Raithní, a Bronze Age burial mound dating from 1500BC. Nearby are Teampall Chaomhán, a Medieval church ruin half buried in the sand and the 16th Century Caisleán Uí Bhríain, an imposing three storey tower house built within a Stone Age fort. To the north of the island golden sandy beaches offer safe swimming and stunning vistas of Connemara, while the eastern shore boasts a shipwreck and breathtaking views of the Cliffs of Moher and the Burren.

The island also has an arts and cultural centre, Áras Éanna, where you can attend workshops, see exhibitions and learn about traditional culture. If you visit in August you may get to see the traditional currach boat races.

Kieran was a delight! He had so much knowledge and love for the island and his pride of Inis Oirr was contagious. He was always willing to give suggestions and even caught us on a rainy walk to the ferry and gave us a ride the rest of the way! Thank you, Kieran!!

Kieran sent us very accurate directions to the house, almost a little treasure hunt on the island but an easy and short one. The house is charming, the location is amazing (Inisheer is wonderful), and the view from our bedroom was pretty good. We even were able to enjoy the sunrise from our bed! The room was nice and clean and the bathroom seemed nice enough too, unfortunately an island-wide power cut prevented us from taking a shower (like most showers during our Irish trip the water pump was electrically driven). Despite this unpredictable incident, it was a very nice experience and we recommend the place.

This is my second time staying with Kieran and his wonderful family. It is a beautiful room with amazing views. I always feel welcomed upon arrival at their home and enjoyed talking to the other guests over a full Irish breakfast. I would recommend Kieran's home to anyone and can't wait until my next stay on Inish Oirr.

I am from Inis Oírr born and raised. I live on the Island all year round and love the rugged natural beauty of the Island. I like to chill out and look out at the ocean with a cup of tea, great views from my house. Winter time the sea can get fairly rough and love to watch the sheer power of the huge waves we get pounding the islands shorelines.
Irish is my native tongue and i love the language and the irish culture, traditional music, song and dance. 'Sláinte' as we say 'to good health'.
If you want to know more about the island and things to do i'd be a good guide to set you on your way.
