The Neighborhood

NEIGHBORHOOD:
The Poble Sec district is a part of Barcelona located at the foot of Montjuic, whose central thoroughfare is the Avinguda del Paral·lel, few steps from this Barcelona apartment.
Avinguda del Paral·lel for decades was the centre of the city's nightlife with a dozen theatres, numerous music halls and cafés peopled by cabaret artists and bon viveurs; a steamy mix of eroticism and anarchism.
When the street was officially opened in October 1894, it was already home to a burgeoning entertainment industry of cafés, music halls and, particularly towards the port end, brothels. By the early 20th century, it had as many as 10 theatres and several music and dance halls along a stretch of barely 300 fun-laden metres, leading to the avenue's nickname of the ‘Montmartre barcelonés'.
In addition to El Molino musical hall, today just three theatres remain: Apolo, Condal and Victoria, but the city council has recently purchased the old Arnau theatre, which has stood in a sorry state for several years, with the aim of turning it into an as-yet-unspecified cultural centre. The plan forms part of a project to return Barcelona's Broadway to its former glory, making what the council calls an “avenue of leisure" for the city.

Getting Around

The great majority of the city attractions is easily available walking, the only ones where you would need to take the metro are:
- La Sagrada Familia (10 mins by direct metro train)
- El Parque Guell (17 mins by direct metro train)
- El Camp Nou - home of FC BARCELONA (15 min by metro train)

The apartment is located near the Avinguda Parallel and El Molino theater, within 3-minute walking distance to the metro station Parallel and a bus stop. The famous La Rambla and Port Vell can be reached in a 10-min walk, and Plaza España with its Magic Fountain within 15 mins.

Just a few steps from FUNICULAR DE MONTJUÏC (Cablecar), that takes you to the top of Montjuc mountain, from where you can enjoy spectacular views over the city.

There are some cafe-bars just downstairs, grocery shops, tapas-bars.

The bus D-20 is perfect for direct transport to the Barceloneta beach (you can also walk, it's about 20 min, along the Old Harbor). There are also night buses from the same bus stop.

There is a BIKE RENTAL nearby.

There is a direct bus to the Prat Airport from Plaza España.

Other Things to Note

Wine & tapas: if you want to feel like a local, shouldn't miss the pedestrian street - CALLE BLESA/BLAI, just 5 mins from home. The street wakes-up at about 8 pm, and gives you the wide range of tapas-bars, with great cuality food and wine. I especially reccomend Gran Bodega Salto (Carrer de Blesa, 36) adn the bar called BLAI 9. HUTB-004770

House Rules
No smoking
No parties or events
Check-in is after 3PM

***The neighbours are great and I'm on good terms with them- so don´t rent this place if you're going to party like rock star and make a load of noise.
HOWEVER they don't mind at all if you want to have drinks and play music if it's kept within reasonable levels ;-)
MOREOVER, they would love you even more, if you keep silence on the STAIRCASE while coming back late at night or early in the morning.
If you are a smoker, please don´t shake the ashes though the windows, there is an ashtray in the kitchen. You are welcome to do it on the balcony, enjoying a local street-life view and a glass of vine ;-) ***

I am happy to host the guests indicated in the reservation, so if you want to see your friends not indicated in the reservation, please meet them in one of many bars in the area, NOT AT HOME.

Please, respect the check-out time.
Please, don't collocate the towels on the balcony (it is forbidden in some central parts of Barcelona, to keep the facades elegant all the time).
