My bus was more than an hour late due to an accident, but both Sara and Miguel waited patiently for me at a designated bar. Sara and her son, Jack, were very friendly and helpful. Jack even spent the day showing me around Samara, which I really appreciated. I spent two days with the family.
The room was large and clean, and the private bath was great. There is also a large cabinet to store all your things. **Please note - bring a flashlight if you intend to go out at night as the walk from the beach is very dark. Also, bring earplugs as the neighborhood roosters start to call at 3 am.
I spent three beautiful days at Miguel and Sarah's; the location next to the beach is just perfect, the bedroom and private bathroom were very comfortable and my hosts were super friendly and helpful. I would recommend anyone who travel to Costa Rica to check out Samara and stay at Miguel and Sarah's !
Thank you guys for this delighful stay !
We had a great time staying with Sarah at Miguels place. The beach right in front of a lovely porch, it was a great place to work and hang in a cosy family atmosphere. Bars are quickly to access through a short walk over the beach but you can also treat yourself from the coconut and papaya trees around as the other guest did.
Being remote workers we highly appreciated the fast and reliable internet, heck it even worked during the power outage – how awesome is that?
perfect location at the beach of samarah. Directly at the beach and only 2 minutes to walk to the next surf school or really nice restaurants!
Moreover the place was nice and clean and Sarah and her son were very kind and helpful! We had access to drinking water and when we asked for stuff to play at the beach we got more than we needed!
Thanks again for everything! We can't imagine a better place to stay in samarah!!
Miguel, Sara, and Jack made us feel like family and their neighbors just the same. The room was as described. The house is on the beach which was one of the greatest aspects. There were little geckos everywhere which are possibly the cutest lizards (sorry iguanas). They were more than helpful as far as what to do, as the son took us on a wonderful hike to one of the most beautiful lookouts I have ever seen. The 2 nights Miguel cooked was the best food we ate while in Samara, so hats off to the chef! We would definitely stay with them again!
Miguel and Sarah were great hosts. You were to free to come and go as you please and they were there to talk with if you needed otherwise you were left to your own space. The room had a shower, toilet, fan and comfy bed. The kitchen was available to use if you wanted. It is an ideal spot just meters from the beach with monkeys, birds and squirrels playing in nearby trees. A smorgasbord of restaurants all along the beach to choose from at very affordable prices and only a few minutes walk along the beach to the town centre, supermarket, bank etc. Many things on offer in the area to do, horse riding, fishing, canopy trips to name a few.
On my last night we all donated and Miguel got going in the kitchen (it smelled delicious and tasted just as good) and prepared a feast for two other guests and myself. You will enjoy a stay here I just chose the wrong time of year, a fair bit of rain and thunderstorms and very humid. and p.s. don't depend on taxi drivers to pick you up at 4 am in the morning to catch the early bus out of town!! If it hadn't been for Sarah showing me the way to the road to flag the bus down, losing her thong in a mud puddle on the way, I would have missed the bus. Thanks Sarah! It can be a little difficult finding Oceanfront Cuisine Miguel I suggest you call them on arrival and arrange a place to meet at any of the wonderful little Cafe's along the beach.
Hola Cheryle! Yes, I really do appreciate your feedback. We are actually going to do everything above you just suggested in the near future. I was happy to read your feedback to Miguel. I had already spoken to him about the pillows and sheets... but it's more effective to hear it from a guest. : ) Let's stay in touch! I hope you are able to extend your airline ticket. Take care. Sarah
Sarah and her son were extremely friendly and accommodating hosts. I stayed for one week and had no issues. My requests and questions were met with thoughtful replies and I was able to be social or have complete privacy at will.
The house is in great condition and is a one minute walk to the beach and a few more to all the restaurants and bars.

Hola! Miguel is originally from Germany. He moved to Playa Samara in 2008. Sarah has been coming to Samara since August 2011. Sarah moved here from Florida in Feb. 2013. We both LOVE it here. We have met so many wonderful people from all over the world. Miguel is a chef and guitar player. Our favorite night of the week is Sunday. That's when we have our special Sunday Dinner. It is usually for about 8 people. Miguel usually prepares a 5 course meal, and then we sit around the front porch playing guitar and talking. House Guests who wish to join in on the meal usually pitch in for groceries to cover the cost of the meal, and they bring their own beverages. We have a dog (Latina) and a cat (Flo). I'd like to say that we rescued them, but, actually, they rescued us. They are "beach pets"and typically come and go as they please. Both are very friendly and sweet. We'd love to meet you! Mi Casa es su Casa! Hasta luego!
