The Space

Welcome to our quiet vacation rental in beautiful Santa Barbara. We are about 300 yards from the Pacific Ocean. A stairway to the beach is a short walk away. On the Mesa, we are approx 3 miles from the center of downtown and a little less to the harbor and picturesque Stearns Wharf. The airport and UCSB are about 10 quick freeway miles away. Two grocery stores, a laundromat and many other amenities are 6 blocks away. You will be able to enjoy food from Thailand, Japan, China, Italy, Mexico, and even America at the restaurants within walking distance from our home. There are also pizza joints, a couple of sandwich shops, and, of course, a Starbucks
There is ample parking on the street in front of the pathway leading to the private deck and the room. The room is equipped with a small refrigerator, microwave/convection oven, toaster and coffee maker, electric frying pan and more. Plates, cups, glasses and cookware are in the room. The bathroom has a large shower, but no tub. Extra towels and bedding are provided in case your stay runs into a number of days. Even beach towels are provided. There is a color TV with a DVD player (email hidden) connection. The private enclosed deck is often used by guests who come to play and bring their bikes, surfboards, etc. Santa Barbara is a true vacation destination with its worldclass restuarants, shopping, many golf courses, miles of scenic bikepaths and hiking in the nearby mountains.. Many of our guests are here to visit their children who are attending UCSB, Westmont College, and SB City College. Grandparents will choose us when they come to visit their grandkids. It beats staying in an impersonal often noisy motel room downtown or a pricey one along the waterfront. We have been offering the room as a vacation rental for over three years now and have had many repeat guests. We have lived in SB for over 40 years and this translates into a wealth of local knowledge. Give us a try -- you won't be disappointed.

  • This bedroom/bath/deck was better than we expected! Peter forgot to mention that there is a private wooden deck, with a shade tree growing in the middle of it. We were able to sit outside and work on our glass mosaic project while listening to the birds and peacefulness. I stored my bike on the deck without any worry about it getting stolen. The neighborhood is located on the Mesa, which we were told was a very nice location. We agree; it is safe and peaceful. We walked to a beach area, down 243 steps in case anyone is counting. It was a GREAT workout.

I brought my bike and Peter told me about the bike path shortcut down to the harbor and beyond. This was a beautiful bike ride that I repeated 3 times.

Hendry's Beach is just a very short/5 minute drive up the coast. Free parking, nice beach, and a restaurant for lunch/dinner. SWEET!

Peter also let us know about some great little restaurants nearby. We particularly enjoyed the Endless Summer Cafe by the harbor; it has wonderful GLUTEN FREE New England Clam Chowder.

While here, we took a Mosaic class at Santa Barbara School of Mosaic Art. If you are even a teensy bit artistic and want to spend some time in Tami's outdoor studio, it is only about 10 minutes away. You will love the setting and be amazed at what you can create.

All in all, this was a fantastic setting for our first trip to Santa Barbara. Peter was very friendly and helpful. I would definitely stay here again!

  • Peter and his wife, Julie, were amazing hosts. The room was better than the pictures! My best friend and I took a weekend trip and were able to spend time together, relaxing on the beach, and enjoying the sun.

The beach is a 10 minute (and lots of stairs) walk away, and the neighborhood is quite quiet which was nice for us to get away from the city life.

Definitely recommend for people looking for a quiet relaxing place in Santa Barbara.

  • Our stay at Peter's house was wonderful. The room was comfortable, clean, nicely decorated. We loved to sit on our little private patio. House is a very short walk from the ocean, and only a short drive from downtown. Peter was a very welcoming and accommodating host.

  • We didn't see Peter probably because we only stayed one night in his beautiful room but it was easy to communicate with him.
The room was nice with a beautiful patio with a lot of privacy. The room is really well equipied !! It has everything you need, really !
Peter let us some food for breakfast in the fridge and fresh fruits, we really appreciated. It's easy to park your car outside and believe me, having a car is really important because the place is a little far away from downtown. The place was quiet and safe.
    We recommand this place !

  • We had a great relaxing break at Peter's house. Ideally a car would be good for this location, especially if you prefer to eat in the Downtown restaurants. But, there is a very convenient and cheap bus route about 250m from the house, that takes you straight to the heart of the action.

Everything we needed was in the room, and we were very grateful for the bagels and cream cheeses for breakfast.

  • Peter has been very welcoming with us, we really appreciate his explanation to find the room passing by a fantastic road with a great view on the channel island. The room is not a brand new one but it's very well equipped with everything you need (including cooking and a big fridge which is very useful with a baby). The location is great, very quiet, safe and so close from the sea (you can see it from the outside). There is a great see view walk to go to the harbor. We had also the opportunity to make a day trip to LA from there (less than 1h30 driving). I recommend this room and thanks again to Peter

  • The hosts were warm and welcoming. The house is close to a beach access and large park.
The room was a little small but there was a lovely outside deck with table and chairs.

About
My wife and I have been married for nearly 40 years. We have raised two wonderful children and that's our 4.5 year old grandson in a recent wedding picture. We have been offering the room as a vacation rental for about 4 years now. Only recently did a friend tell us about Airbnb, so we are eager to try this professional and secure-looking site. Our guests come to SB for a variety of reasons -- weddings of friends, to visit grandchildren, to see their kids who are attending one of the local colleges, job interviews, European travellers on holiday, etc. We enjoy meeting the variety of visitors who choose our home, although we sometimes will not see them at all. Some guests know their way around town, have no questions for us, and may value their privacy. These folks will check themselves in and out and be on their way. My wife and I are empty-nesters, but are blessed to have our children still in town. Julie enjoys her special time taking care of grandson Andy 1-2 days a week. It's a special time to have with such a growing imagination. We have lived in SB for 40 years and have a wealth of knowledge about our community should a guest want to use us as a resource. We both love a good story - movie, book, etc - and we enjoy the outdoors. I love to golf when time permits and most sports occupy my attention to some degree (go Lakers). My wife is a true people person who has devoted the last twenty-five years of her life to assisting folks with various issues which come up in their personal life. Refer to (website hidden) for more info on my amazing wife.
