It is filled with gorgeous 19th century row houses, we have two large pretty parks nearby (Lincoln and Stanton). Of course we are just 3 blocks from the US Capitol, the Supreme Court, the Library of Congress, Union Station, Eastern Market and 5 blocks from all that the National Mall has to offer. This apartment is lovely and my parents truly enjoyed being able to stay here. It is comfortable and nicely located. And Colin is an excellent host. He was very communicative in the run up to their arrival and when they had an issue with one of the keys, he was on the problem immediately. Highly recommended.
Colin's apartment was beautiful! We loved staying here. We didn't meet Colin, but he was friendly and welcoming even from afar. The location was unbeatable: being from New York, we were happy to take public transportation, but we ended up just walking everywhere because the apartment is so close to the museums & libraries we wanted to visit. The apartment itself is adorable and thoughtfully decorated. The bed was very firm, which we liked, but isn't for everyone. Although it was 10°F outside at times, the apartment itself was warm and cozy. Traveling to and getting into the place was easy. We loved staying here and absolutely would again.
Great neighborhood. Can't beat library of Congress, Supreme Ct, Folger, and Union Station in your back yard.
Colin's directions were very precise; keys and appliances all worked.
Nice graduate student ambiance.
We loved our stay at Historic & Chic Capitol Hill. All of the instructions as to arrival were perfect. The place was warm and cozy (it was a bit chilly outside) and to us -- from NYC -- also felt spacious. Imagine -- an eat-in kitchen! The bed was very comfortable and there was plenty of hot water in the shower and good pressure, plenty of towels, etc. And the location was less than half a block from the Folger where we were going for a tour of the vault and play. Also, it was very, very quiet . . . great for sleeping a little later than usual! Highly recommend, and would stay there again.
This place was great! We really appreciated that Colin let us drop our bags off a little early, as he happened to be home. He was a fantastic host--very flexible and communicative. The apartment was in a great location, very close to several metro lines and to restaurants/market. The neighborhood is quite safe and cozy. If you're here for a conference (as we were), it's about a 2 mile walk to the convention center, or you can take the metro. The walk to and fro is actually wonderful, as all the sites are right in between Colin's place and the convention center. Would definitely say again, thanks Colin!
I like to think that even though I am constantly traveling, living, and working in new places around the world I still approach people with the trust and familiarity I did growing up in the small Wisconsin town I hail from. Since I graduated college, my curiosity, sense of adventure, and my work as an urban planner and designer has brought me to live and work throughout the US, Europe, Latin America, and Asia. Exploration is constant for me: Even when I'm not traveling I'm exploring my city, exploring in books, exploring in newspapers and current events, exploring through art, and exploring with foods. I'm also a passionate cyclist, snowboarder, X-C skier, and wilderness traveler. I want to get better at sailing.
As a guest and traveler I am always interested in making personal connections in new places. I usually travel for work to several different continents per year and I always try to take some time to travel on my own, usually on a bike or on foot, when I visit somewhere. I am very clean & respectful of others whether I am a guest or a host. I've traveled through dozens of countries on a bicycle and everywhere I went I found that it was help and advice of random people along the way that made the difference. I very much like that now my girlfriend, Karine, and I can host travelers in our Washington apartment and help them enjoy their explorations in our city.
