My boyfriend and I just spent a lot weekend in San Fran and stayed in the Mission Secret. The host was very friendly and gave us restaurant advice and fresh coffee. The room itself is small but cozy with an outdoor sitting area that is very pleasant for eating breakfast. There is a small kitchen area and brand new European shower as well as an iPod doc, coffee maker, toaster and a nice selection of teas. Our only major complaint is that we weren't able to sleep past 7:30 am because the host has two small children who wake up early and make a lot of noise above this (the kitchen is directly above the studio). The room isn't soundproof so you can hear any walking, vacuuming above you. If you like to wake up very early and sight-see this shouldn't be a problem for you, however we were excited for a relaxing vacation and sleeping in, which didn't really happen. I think for the high price we paid the experience wasn't really worth it however we were in a great location and a very pretty block.
We enjoyed our stay at the Mission Secret very much ! A week in San Francisco with a great neighborhood. Bus 27 / 9 or 33 are closeby and take you to places like Castro, Dolores Park, Downtown or the Golden Gate Park directly. The room is cosy and quiet. Shower is great, bed comfortable, little terrace nice to sit. We have been out a lot and did meet Karl twice. Definitely a recommendation !
Compared to the others is bit more expensive.
Fees are not clear:
in the advert was stated 60$ cleaning fee and we were charged 70$. The all additional fees were about an additional 50% a day more than the price we have seen in the listing.
For a 5 nights stay we had to sign a contract and send it back, pay an insurance, and give the details of our bank card (including signing an authorisation for charging us directly bypassing the AirBnB), which make useless any guarantee from AirBnB in case of disputes.
The all process was quite stressful and complicated (which is not what you expect form an holiday).
I'm wondering why we were charged commission by the website if at the end we had to deal again with the manager.
Location is quite convenient, not central but well connected with bus.
Though at night can be a bit dangerous to walk around in the area.
The room is a bit dark but very cosy, clean and tidy, though is not an independent appartment as it looks like in the advert but you have to pass through the house garage to get in and the garden is part of the house garden. The windows opens on the communal garden and not all of them have curtains.
There is no bathroom, but a very nice and big shower and a separate toilet (which has no proper door and using it when someone is in the room can be for the other person a bit unpleasant), the sink you can use for washing or shaving is the same that is suppose to be used for preparing your food.
In general the place was quite but if you like to indulge in the bed till late you might find the family of the owner living upstairs a bit noisy in the early morning (kids and vacuum cleaning).
the place was ok.
But we found it very expensive and we verified that with the same money you can get an hotel in a much better and more central area including breakfast.... with a much quicker and easier booking process. In fact for the rest of our holiday we used another method for booking our accommodations.
It was a pretty good experience. The room itself was well-decorated and clean. However, the lack of privacy was a bit (email hidden)e toilet was separated from the room by a louvered closet door, allowing for no sound privacy. The shower was in the room itself wtih a clear glass door so there was no visual privacy. So if you have a travel companion, then hopefully, this level of intimacy works for you. The room itself, is accessed by walking through the owners packed garage...and this takes a bit of getting used to...but also worked out just fine. There is a nice backyard and a patio and a sweet old cat which made the place seem like home. The location was quite convenient for our purposes...i.e. to visit relatives in the Mission District.
We had a really nice stay in this lovely and cozy room, very well located in the heart of the Mission District (5 min by car to downtown and other locations).
We had a great time and undisturbed enjoyed our full week in San Francisco.
Really happy to suggest to any of you looking to visit SF to consider staying at this place!
naomi and karl we're fantastic hosts. very helpful kind and accommodating. i had a wonderful stay in the mission would definitely stay again.
The "lower level" bedroom was cozy and delightful. The space was very well arranged and we even had breakfast every morning in the room! The decor was lovely and sparkling clean and fresh.
We slept very well also.
The location was terrific ... close to the bus, the BART, the Mission District.
The hosts were very kind and provided my husband with extra TLC as he developed a dreadful cold while we were visiting.
Thank you again, Airbnb, for a delightful experience.
Overall it was a good place, although I wouldn't call it a Studio Apartment or list it as "Apartment - Entire home/apt."
The owners were great and I enjoyed my time staying in the mission.
Very nice room -- very clean and well put-together. Lovely back yard and truly terrific hosts.
Mission Secret was a great place. The room was really clean and well put together. It's small but it has everything you need for a short stay including a microwave, fridge, and a awesome french press. There is tea and coffee in the room as well as guide books and maps for the itinerarily-challenged. There is a cute little patio outside the apartment where you can eat breakfast.
The neighborhood it is in is definitely up and coming, There are a ton of coffee shops, bookstores, bars, and taquerias around and its really easy to get to public transportation (a number of different buses stop nearby and the BART is a mile away). Some of the side streets a few blocks away seem little sketchy at night, but the street its on is pretty nice.
Overall we had a really great experience staying here and would recommend it to anyone looking to stay in the Mission.
This is the final rate, including any fees from the host and Airbnb.
